'Cheap Dont Gotta Be Ugly' Sub 500 For Brother

Description

Hello everyone, since forever me and my younger brother have been gaming and dominating on consoles so a couple months ago i left him and built myself a nice pc which you can view here http://pcpartpicker.com/b/G5b. Anyways i quickly got lonely gaming by myself :( so i decided to sell off our consoles and try to build my brother a cheap gaming rig. So this is what i came up with. Came under 500 bucks total so i think i did a good job. He rarely does anything but play pc games so i focused on the gpu more than the cpu but i also didnt want to cheap out on any components. I feel for the money, i built a solid computer for him

CPU - I got him an Athlon 750k. For the price it was awsome. I was going to get a 6300 and a super cheap mobo but i would have came a bit overbudget. I realized he doesnt do anything on computers so the raw cpu power was not needed. I have an 8350 and i dont notice a darn difference between this cpu and mine. I get like 5-8 more frames with my 8350 on BF4. Going to upgrade to Kaveri when it comes out, if an Athlon version comes out and it offers better computing performance seeing how he doesnt need the built in graphics

MOBO - Took a leap of faith on this new mobo that had barely came out and had no reviews on Newegg. Its socket FM2+ so i could just swap out the CPU for the newer Kaveri chip when it comes out. Mobo worked great, its sexy, ran everything perfect on startup, boots from USB, just plain good. Its pretty too.

RAM- Got it on sale. Runs at its rated timings. Not even my Corsair Vengeance did that. Mine runs at 1333 and ive been to lazy to look up how to change it. Plus the RAM is a sexy black and has a nice heat spreader. I think its actually on sale now.

HDD - 1TB standard storage. ill upgrade to a ssd for him later, for right now its super quick.

Video Card - Got this video card for 145. Its a great cool running MSI model. I know the equivalent of this is the new 270 but thats 200 bucks and barely beats this one. Plus this video card is also sexy.

Power Supply - I wanted a modular power supply but those were more pricey. I was originally going to get a Corsair cx 430 model but read up and saw that this XFX model was much better. Its not modular but the case easily handled all the cables so no worries there. It has better internal components, is also sexy, and runs quieter then my own darn HX750 in my main rig which has an annoying coil wine.

Case - His case is a hand me down from my original build. Its pretty nice anyways

As you can see Sexy was an emphasis, as i like sexy. Its cheap, but pretty and preforms well. The componets are what i like to call 'budget nice'. Anyway....on my steam account and origin account i now have.............................................

one friend! My brother. Add me if you play BF4 as thats all im playing now. I dont rememer my origin account but add me on steam LiL_P00ki..... Thanks for looking

Very nice build for the price and great job on cables! Those 7870s are pretty beastly and you've got a little extra umph with the GHz edition!

How did you like the Arc Midi R2, I picked one up during black friday for $49.99 just because it was so cheap!

+1

Thanks, your builds are amazing haha. The cables actaully came zip tied like that so that was convenient haha. Yep it should be enough for him, im gonna hand him down my 7970 when i upgrade my PC so hopefully it lasts. My goodness thats an amazing case. Its beautiful and a replica of the r4 from the insides with a bit more airflow going through it. I loved it but the r4 was on sale for like 70 bucks so i bought it haha.

Thanks for the looks on my builds!

Ya I really liked the R4 (as I used it on my first build). The only real downside to that case is that it is pretty heavy once everything is inside and unfortunately I had built it downstairs so I had to lug it upstairs by myself and that was nerve racking haha

Glad to hear that the MIDI is great! I don't know if/when I'll ever use it but I just couldn't pass up scoring it for such a great price when I did

Again nice build for the price! Hope he loves it!

Of course. Yea i got the r4 now and that thing is heavy as balls man. I had to carry it down 3 floors to my car when moving out of my dorm. I tripped going down but somehow recovered after stumbling down 3 steps haha. Oh if you do use it your gonna love it. Its quiet as well. It sound pretty similar in noise to the r4 for me but i dont know. And my cpu runs like 3 to 4 degrees cooler in it as well.

Ya one thing I liked about the R4 is that is was pretty silent even with the fans turned up to 12V on the controller. I was worried that if I ever got to build in it that it wouldn't be quiet as it doesn't have the sound dampening foam but that's a relief!

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

yea i remember the midi was really quiet. i had 7 fans in it and it sounds like my r4 which has 5 fans in it. I was actually bummed out about that when i heard the r4 turn on but i cant complain, its quiet haha

Nice build! Those cables look pretty damn tidy too!

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

thanks. the cables actually came zip tied from the bottom so i just routed them through the back haha.

Great cable management! Wow! Awesome build hope to see more from ya

I'm getting a build with that same 7870 and that processor. Good looking build for the price +1

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

Its a sweet combo. Totally worth the price. Thanks

candy [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

Have you benched or overclocked either?

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

no i have not. I played bf4 online today and it matched by 8350/7970 rig in performance. Im not sure how but it did. At 1080p medium settings online i average around 40fps. Campaign goes at Ultra at like 40 Frames as well. Great preformance for the combo

Nice Build! Loving the cable management for a build on a budget!

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

Thanks. Cant stand untidy cables haha

jjwb22101 1 point 12 months ago

That makes two of us. :P

You are the coolest brother! I was think about doing the same thing for my brother. Just curious, is he playing Minecraft? If so, how is it performing?

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

Haha. and sadly no, hes playing bf4 with meh

takoeman 1 point 12 months ago

Nice build man, i can't believe you got all this for less than 500 bucks. that's cheaper than an Xbone with better performance and value! So what's your origin name, I'll be adding you on my steam maybe we can play some BF4 soon...

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

Thank. Yep i just played battlefield 4 online and now im thinking something is wrong with my main 8350/7970 rig as it struggles online BF4 and this build seems to match it within 5 fps. Orgin account is lil_p00ki

takoeman 1 point 12 months ago

That's weird my current rig runs it fairly well. I have an amd 6100/7770 and i get decent fps on bf4 64 man servers. I cant play on ultra but i do fairly well. You playing in the US? I think I'll lag terribly bad in international servers.

ivan134 1 point 11 months ago

I'm thinking of doing a similar build, so I would like your input. Why did you go with the 750k instead of the 760k?

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

because at the time it was cheaper. get which ever is cheaper

specsy12 1 point 11 months ago

great build my case is coming in two days and my build is pretty much similar i will add you on steam do you know how many fps he gets in bf4?

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

in bf4 he averages 40 in story maxed out and 40 on medium online

EngageTheSun [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

Phew!! Amazing cable management there man! +1

mr.flow3r 1 point 9 months ago

Can anyone tell me if this will run Starcraft2 at medium settings or higher? Sorry I'd love to do more research on my own, but I just got no time!

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 2 points 9 months ago

my good sir. This can run BF4 at ultra. Im pretty sure it can run starcraft 2 at high settings although starcraft 2 is a bit more cpu bound. ill get back to you soon though

mr.flow3r 1 point 9 months ago

thank you my friend!

I find it annoying when people don't include an OS and a monitor. That crap is setting me back 200 bucks that i could use to turn my med-tier build into a beast mode high-tier one. Nice build though I like the amd 750k from the photon if you were using that.

Variable.variables 1 point 1 month ago

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Back in the good ol' days when 8 GB of RAM wasn't over $80...

Mediciu5 [2 Builds] 0 points 12 months ago

I think your build looks great. Awesome pricing too. I haven't used an AMD CPU in so many years...so I can't comment there, but overall if it's doing what you want it to then it's a success.

issac94 [Submitter] [2 Builds] 2 points 12 months ago

Thanks. I actually have all AMD componets in my builds. For the price they just offer more in my opinion. In this range i was looking at the 4 core athlon or the dual core pentium who cant run ram faster then 1333 so the choice was pretty easy. And it works great.
