Excellent build ! Neat looking, good cable management, good parts and good prices, congrats ! I wouldn't taken that PSU though even if that meant a higher price such as 100$, it would be worth it IMO. Concerning the rest, what did you do with the rest of the parts ? And also, did you do the sleeving yourself or are these extensions ?

Extensions, and I sold everything on /r/hardwareswap. I know I kind of skimped on the PSU (a bit) but I'm not too worried about it. I had a really sketchy one before and I got this one at a really good deal.

Yeah, the deal was indeed quite good ;)

Beautiful cable management.. and cables! How are you liking the 7970?

Thanks! It's pretty great other than the sag... its a super heavy card so I should have expected it. It's not as bad with this mobo as with the other one I had before it (ASRock Z77 Extreme3).

Nice build just hope it doesn't start moving from the CPU Fan =P Great coolers but so HUGE!

itchie7 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

So massive I know

How much room is there above the ram?

itchie7 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

probably about 1-1.5cm. Not much but it works. The fans are actually the problem, not the heatsink. The fans are actually bigger than the heatsink so they extend down past it. The one fan is actually touching the heatsink on the RAM. If the RAM was lower profile, the fans could be lower as well and be less noticeable but whatever.

Expo 1 point 13 months ago

Are the fans 120 or 140mm

itchie7 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

140mm

That CPU cooler is sick.

Looks really nice, good choice of parts, very clean. I'm considering maybe buying a window side panel for my Define R4, do you think it's worth it?

That case is awesome, looks like a wine cellar

I have a question, why not put something under the GPU? To prevent sagging, wouldent it damage the slot? What happens if it breaks loose or something and falls? :O

xSWATxBadkid [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago

Awesome rig, but I really would put something to prop the GPU up, that thing sags like hell, not good for the PCIe slot.

High quality parts, beautiful build and great cable management! really stands out compared to other recent builds that have been showing off horrible cable management.

Thanks I appreciate it, took a lot of time

EDIT* Didn't even know I replied to this already, my bad.

I'm really digging that cable management! It's really good. Other than that this is a very well balanced build. My only question is why the 7970, you could have gotten a GTX 770 for about the same price. Unless it's one of the parts you got during Black Friday.

"components from Canada Computer's on Black Friday last year."

Ah that what I get for not thinking haha, thanks.

Well the OP said that the 660 ti was a part of the original parts he bought on Black Friday last year. Now on the 11th of July as a finished product one could assume that he bought the 7970 somewhat recently and could suggest a 770. I don't think it matters since the performance would be good either card depending on your needs.

IamApropos [3 Builds] 3 points 13 months ago

Whoa no kidding I re read that and was totally confused myself. Though the 7970 Ghz Ed does however perform competently against the 770 and the 7970 usually comes with 4 AAA games ;) which the 770 doesn't.
So ya I agree with you on that "the performance would be good either card"

itchie7 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 13 months ago

Yeah I got the 7970 sometime in Jan/Feb before the 7xx series was released. I would have gotten a 7xx series card if I knew they were so close to release.

Yeah I got the 7970 sometime in Jan/Feb.
