Description

This is currently under construction! Everything is in the h440 for the most part but I still have some small mods to do. Pictures will be updated when it's all done! :)

After months of researching parts, choosing the ones I wanted, and then getting the money to buy all of them. The machine is finally finished. Obviously this was built with gaming in mind, but I do use it for pretty much everything else. Photo editing, 3D modeling, video editing.

Cable Management is meh, definitely could be better.

Current Setup

NZXT H440 : I really, really love this case when I first saw it. No 5.25 bays, a built in PSU shroud, sound deadening foam and a window that shows only what you want to see. Cable management in this thing is absolutely awesome. It's also a little smaller than my lest case and then whole thing is metal for the most part so it is WAY easier to transport around when I need too.

Crosshair : Pretty much just a beast. Has tons of ports on the back, has amazing sound, plus all of the cool software that ASUS has for it. Most of which, I haven't even really messed with at all. And, it's black and red ;)

AMD 8350 : Stays pretty cool and it's fast. So naturally, I'm happy with it.

ASUS Matrix 280x : When AMD first announced these cards, I really wanted to get the 290 or 290x. But, they didn't release pricing information on them for a few weeks and I was planning on getting an EVGA NVidia 770 4gb card. But the 280x was just as fast, if not a little faster, had 1 less GB of ram and was over a $100 cheaper. I was looking to save money at the time so I just went with the 280x. Definitely don't regret that decision at all! It's just the tech geek in me that wants that 290 because it's the latest thang. The MATRIX logo on the side glows a different color depending on what the load rate is on it. I wish you had control over that but you don’t :/ (Some of you guys have commented on that already). It’s a cool feature but I am obviously an aesthetics nerd so it bothers me a little.

gSkill Ripjaw X Series : Gets the job done and I usually still have a tone left over. Still would like to get another 8gb kit, maybe even 16gb. More memory is better for the kind of work I do. gSkill also offers a lifetime warranty with their RAM.

NZXT 850 : Would have rather gone with a full modular one but the price was right on this. Only thing that bothers me about it is, either the port on the motherboard is touchy or it's because the power cable is so stiff. If it is bumped out of place and not sitting the right way, it will lose connection and the whole computer will shut off and I have to mess around with the cable to get it back in the right spot.

Samsung EVO 120gb : Super fast, like an SSD is supposed to be (Basically never want to use my laptop anymore). 120gb is plenty of room for me. I have half of the Adobe Apps installed along with what is probably more than the average user would have. Still around 40gbs left.

Seagate Barracudas : Everyone seems to love WD but I don't. I've never really had good luck with them. I've been through a few WD drives and they always seemed to die after a year or two. 1tb is for all of my personal stuff. Music, pcitures, photography, pr0n (Wait... What?). 2tb is for all of my Skyrim mods.

Toshiba HDD : I took this out of my laptop when I got a SSHD for it and it has just been laying around ever since then. I decided to throw it in just for a back up drive.

Windows 7 Pro : Didn’t want Windows 8. Nuff said

CPU Cooler : Keeps the 8350 cool but the only thing is, sometimes the pump gives off a grinding noise. I heard it can be cause from hooking the fans up to the pump itself.

Corsair Fans : All of them are whisper quiet and keep everything nice and cool. And, of course, the red rings ;)

Corsair k70 : Best god damn keyboard I have ever used. Ridiculous build quality and the Cherry reds are the best! Definitely worth the money you pay.

Mouse : Eh, for now it's good. Would like to get something better but I haven't really found anything yet so... It has a good amount of driver issues that are annoying as hell. They have a firmware updater for the driver but it doesn't always work. Spend the money and get something a little better.

Planned Upgrades

Asus VG248QE 24.0" : The monitor I am running on now is ok and I can't complain about the price. But I would like to get something a little bigger and something that has at least a 120hz refresh rate. I may go with the X-Star monitor because it is 27 inches and still has 120hz refresh rate. Working on a nice big monitor is just so much easier when you are a designer.

Corsiar h55 : Why do you want another CPU cooler? You may or may not be asking this. It is actually to cool my graphics card. Which brings me to my next planned upgrade...

NZXT Kraken g10 : NZXT just released this a few months ago and it looked really interesting the first time I saw it on LinusTechTips when he was at Computex last year. They are pretty cheap and someone on YouTube was running an r9 290x, at full load, and the temp was around 45-50 degrees. That is about half of what I get now and my card does not run nearly as hot as the 290x's are said to run at. So I'm pretty much sold.

Astros : Everyone keeps asking me the sound quality and I DON'T have them yet. I may even end up going with something a little cheaper.

Memory : Want to get another 8gb kit to have a total of 16gb. Probably will be one of the last upgrades I do. If I even do it at all.

Seagate Barracuda 1tb : I was originally planning on doing raid for a backup of my personal stuff. But I am just going to make my own external with it so it is a totally separate backup from the computer.

BSMODS Lighting kit : What PC would be complete without some cool lighting?

Stormtropper

tropper

I'd like to see some more pics!

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 9 months ago

I do need to get some more. I'll post some up later. ;)

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

Was expecting a storm trooper. So many builds here have names that correspond to case names, but do not include the case.

Not a complaint, you build is nice.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

If I had the know how to make a case look like a Stormtrooper, I'd definitely do it.

Thank you though.

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

nah i mean the cooler master storm trooper. Or cooler master storm stryker which actually looks like a storm trooper.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Ahhhh, I got ya now. I totally forgot CM had a case like that. I actually looked at it and was considering getting it before I found the Phantom.

18hockey [1 Build] 5 points 9 months ago

Nice! Good to see another 8350 user. More pics?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 4 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I noticed there are a lot of Intel users on here.

Just took some and they will be up here in a few minutes ;)

FreeFireXI [3 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

I agree. 8350 here as well 8D

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 9 months ago

I was already asked why I didn't get the 4770k.

If I wanted it, I would have got it lol.

FreeFireXI [3 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

Always. For the price though, AMD can't be beat.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

That's the reason I went with it. Price to performance ratio is just soooo much better.

UntamedShadow [1 Build] 3 points 5 months ago

Now, if only you had an h440! Nice build otherwise.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 5 months ago

I do have an h440 ;) I just haven't updated any of the pictures yet because I'm doing a little work on it.

MichiganFather 3 points 5 months ago

I am so lost.. case is listed as a H440 Black/Red and I am looking at pics of a big white case with no PSU shroud... is the world insane ?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 0 points 5 months ago

I haven't updated the pictures yet cause I'm working on the case a little.

MichiganFather 2 points 5 months ago

ahh ok. :) thought I was losing my mind

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Hahaha nah you're good. The case in the pictures is the phantom 530. It was a pretty nice case but I like the h440 better because it is slightly smaller which makes it easier to carry back and forth to school when I need too. Also, the built in PSU shroud pretty much had me sold from the beginning.

MichiganFather 1 point 5 months ago

Ikr !! Covers the PSU (so color scheme does not matter PLUS you can use modular or not since it can be used to hide all the extra cables...

Need I even mention the LED NZXT. logo ? WOW !

I do wish it had a hidden optical drive bay somewhere but, well, I will just have to grab me an external one. (For those without need, it could be used for fan controllers, media center bay, etc etc.. heck, my current pc has a drawer installed in 1 optical bay... yes, a DRAWER ! lol I usually throw my flash drives and small tools in it.

I would be willing to even have to pop off the front face plate to use it for optical drive if I had to since I rarely use it except to burn CDs for family trips.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Yah mine is semi-modular and I got it because it was all black and goes with any color scheme. But that doesn't really matter anymore lol. I am kind of an aesthetics freak so I wouldn't get an ugly PSU.

Yah the logo is pretty cool. I'm planning on making my own that will have the ROG logo cut into it. That's what I meant by "I'm working on it a little." But I haven't had the time or the space to take out the plastic piece that is in there to make sure my plan will work. I guess we'll see.

Yah not having an optical bay does kind of suck for stuff like fan controllers but I don't use one anyway so it's not a huge deal. I am a freak for clean looks so I love it. I only wish they had designed the panels a little bit differently. They way they come together is kind of weird.

MichiganFather 1 point 5 months ago

I have never used a fan controller myself. I do, however, think some of digital ones look cool as hell !

Would definitely love to see how your cutout goes.. would love to have one made with something on it for me too.. maybe my last name or something.. shocked I didn't think of that before.. once I get it, might be a project to consider. Hmmm, maybe a dragon to match the MSI board and card I am planning on.. change LED color to red so it would be a red dragon.. that would be cool if drawn correctly.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Still looking into doing it but it might be a little tricky but I definitely want to figure it out.

Your last name might be better. I googled a picture of the MSI dragon and made up the design in Illustrator (that's how I have to do it for the company I found online). There are A LOT of tiny little parts that might mess up the whole cutout when you actually get it.

MichiganFather 1 point 5 months ago

yeah.. might just have to do a generic (but cool) dragon or even just a dragon head breathing flames.

PhantomTaco [2 Builds] 2 points 4 months ago

Do you happen to have photos of the kraken g10/h55/h440 together? Does the tubing on the h55 reach to the front of the h440 when mounted?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 3 months ago

Ok, finally have the g10 and h55 in and the tubing does reach. You can either mount it to the middle slot on the front or the bottom. I turned mine upside down and mounted it on the bottom. There was some pump noise for about 30 seconds, but that all worked it self out. Probablt going to get some pictures of the interior tomorrow.

PhantomTaco [2 Builds] 2 points 3 months ago

Thanks for the info, I've already got 2 g10s and 2 h55s. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for NZXT to ship me a replacement set of mounting screws for one of the kits (one screw came bent :/), and for my vrm heatsinks to come in the mail. Hoping by the end of next week I'll be able to set it up.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 3 months ago

Ahhh. My screws were too short when I got them so I had to wait for a new set. You should have enough room for everything. You are going to want to mount the fan in between the case and the h55. Otherwise it is going to put a lot of strain on the tubing and possibly the gpu and express slot because you are going to have to pull it forward. I just got my PC all put back togehter and I think (not 100% sure) but I have around a 20 degree drop in the idle temp of my gpu. You'll be happy!

The g10 can be kind of a pain to get on but it isn't tooo bad. Don't tighten the thumb screws down too much. Some people have already cracker the die or cracked the PCB in half because they WAY over-tightened.

Oh, also. The rubber gaskets that are on the thumb screws for the g10. Just tear those things off because they are going to rip and shred as soon as you start tightening them down.

Good luck with everything :)

PhantomTaco [2 Builds] 1 point 3 months ago

In between? Oh as in fan then rad? Yeah, that was the plan. Also rubber gaskets?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 3 months ago

Yupp you got it. The thumb screws for the g10 have rubber gaskets on them. They just shred when you put them on.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 4 months ago

I still haven't even got a chance to put the kraken on because I'm painting it. I'm hoping the tubes will reach because I'm not going to be able to put it anywhere else.

Max21 [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

How good is the Matrix cooler? I want to get that one.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

It's pretty damn good. When I am at max load, the card is around 70-74 depending on what game and how long I've been playing. It is a triple slot cooler though so keep that in mind.

I have't done any overclocking so I've never been into the "Extreme Load" range. But I think it would still be below 80.

TheStellarEnt 1 point 9 months ago

You should move that second memory stick to the other black memory slot.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

That picture was from before I realized I had it in the wrong slot like an idiot -_-

Spencer1012 [2 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

I'm one of those people about pump noise too. The H55 on my GPU (no typo. lowered temps 30+ degrees Celsius) makes the slightest noise that really annoys me. However, once I'm stress testing, the noise is NOTHING compared to the stock cooler, even though it was similar to a Twin Frozr. I have the fan/pump set to run at a constant speed, and I never crack 48 degrees Celsius on the core, even in Kombustor and Bitcoin mining.

Nice build though! It's not like AMD isn't good! I ran Cinebench single threaded today with my 8320 at 5 Ghz and I got within .05 points of a Sandy Bridge i5 (2400 or 2500 I think) for single threaded performance. Although there's a huge clock speed difference, that shows that when overclocked, AMD even puts up a decent showing for single threaded uses. Don't think less of the build because it's AMD. :-)

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Yeah I dunno what it is with the pump. Sometimes it will be totally silent and other times I will hear a noise. I guess, with the h100i, if you plug the fans into the pump so you can control it through the bundled software, it will make noise.

Thanks! :)Oh I defiantly don't think less of it because it's AMD! I love AMD. A lot of people hate on AMD CPUs but they are fine. Plus they are just soooo much cheaper than Intel, including the boards. I only wish there were more mobo options for AMD. Intel has all the cool ones :(

Spencer1012 [2 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

Yeah that's the way my H55 is, although it's not in the 'ideal' use scenario, I suppose.

I also hate the lack of motherboard options for AMD. There's only a few good ones it seems. I'm just running a budget 970 board but it's been through hell and worse and has taken 2 separate chips past 5 Ghz - my 8320 and my old 4100. It survived an Antec PSU explosion as well as me bleeding all over it a while back, among other things.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

I guess it just means that game/music need to be louder so that you don't have to deal with the sound.

That Rampage black edition that just came out for Intel. Sweet mother of god... If only there was an AMD version of that. Pretty much the only boards for AMD that are "High End," are the Crosshair and the Gigabyte UD boards. Other than that there really isn't much, especially if you are picky with the color scheme (cause you look in your case all the time...)

Damn, that's an impressive overclock. If it's been through all that and you are still getting overclocks that good, definitely a keeper.

rishi23 [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Im getting some of the same stuff so i have a few questions

How is the cherry mx reds for doing typing work cause im also using my build for homework.

how is the astro a40 mic quality and sound.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

The reds are awesome. They are clicky, but not super loud like the Blues are. You'll like them, trust me. If you have to live in a dorm like me, I would go with reds. Unless you want to drive your whole room insane...

I don't have the a40s yet. But I've heard a lot of good things about them. I don't know if you watch either of them, but JackFrags and FRANKIEonPC both use and recommend them.

Zheknov 1 point 9 months ago

I saw a first strike screenshot from a different build that had a higher score and was nothing compared to this build slightly. Was that other build a lie or something?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

The other build could have be overclocked. I haven't done that yet. Lazy... :(

jtc2793 1 point 9 months ago

Nice build, I'm getting win7 pro for the same reason (of course I'm only using 8gb of ram at the moment).

If you didn't already, I'd recommend putting one of the 8gb ram in the first and the 4gb in the second and 8gb for 3rd, 4gb for 4th slot. From what I read on tomshardware that makes it appear as 2x 12gb ram because it's dual channel.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Always good to leave your self some upgrade room. Windows 7 Pro is also $98 on eBay deals right now. At least it was last week.

Yeah, I did switch the one module to the spot where it was supposed to go. I read the motherboard manual wrong when I was looking up the module configuration.

jtc2793 1 point 9 months ago

hehe I got a free key from my suitemate at college, the engineering students get 1 free key for all the windows os. win :D

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

You should check your school on this site ;) onthehub.com

I got Office 2013, Office 2010, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 pro keys all for free. Only thing with the windows keys are, they are upgrade keys so I couldn't use them for myself.

ThePCguy2013 1 point 9 months ago

nice amd build. I'm considering that gpu.can u reccomend it to me? My friends are nvidia fanboys, so they think the 770 is better.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

I would definitely recommend it to you. It's honestly just as good as the 770. I looked up some benchmarks for it and found an article where they tested it with the 770 in 10 of the more popular games that are out. In every game, it usually had a few frames on the 770. Originally I was going to go with the EVGA 770 4gb which is $450 I think. This card has 1 less GB of RAM, is just as good FPS wise AND $100 cheaper. The Matrix version has a better cooler on it but it is a 3 slot card. ASUS does have another that is just DCU2 that is 30 cheaper.

It's really up to you what to get, it is your PC. But, I would say be a rebel and get AMD ;) you could even get a 290x if you wanted to. That's def better than the 770 lol. Probably would shut all of your friends up.

ThePCguy2013 1 point 9 months ago

How reliable is that card? And I kinda like that rog cooler and that 6 monitor capability

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

It's a beast ;)

ThePCguy2013 1 point 9 months ago

I'm thinking about the r9 290, but it gets wayyyy too hot, a frying 60 degrees centigrade at idle.

ThePCguy2013 1 point 9 months ago

By the way, I also use a seagate barracuda drive. boots up in 12 seconds

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

60 degrees at idle? That's insane o.O

That stock cooler that they all have is pretty ****** looking. Once one of the partners like ASUS or PowerCooler come out with a new version, I think it will be ok. I don't see why they don't just put the ROG cooler on there or come up with something else.

zinkscott [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Nice build! Very similar to mine in the CPU/GPU, but your cable management smashes my face into pieces. Enjoy!

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Thank you! My cable management bothers my OCD big time...

tomaryus [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

did you get a free copy of bf4 with this card ?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Nope, not with this one :( that is pretty much just an incentive to buy the 290x over the 290. It's the only card from the r9 series that comes bundled with BF4.

I_can_not_play_solo 1 point 9 months ago

So sexy, especially the Matrix GPU, looks better than the other Asus coolers.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Thank you! It is a nice looking card. The LED Matrix logo changes color depending on how much load is on the color.

steveN7x 1 point 9 months ago

How much FPS do you get on BF4?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago

I haven't gotten BF4 yet :( in BF3 I get like 90-135 depending on where I am.

steveN7x 1 point 9 months ago

My build I want is very simular, do you play games like CS GO or TF2? I'm trying to see how much FPS with those GPU, CPU and MoBo can get.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago

I was just on CS GO last night for a little bit. With everything turned all the way up I was getting something like 150-170 frames I think. I wasn't really paying attention to it but I know it was definitely WAY above 100. BF3 is the game I play most often and I usually have in between 90-125 frame. BF3 is FAR more graphic intensive than CS GO.

I'm also not overclocked on anything yet so you might even be able to squeeze some more frames out of the card. But, without overclock. All the games I have are more than playable. You'd be good ;)

steveN7x 1 point 9 months ago

Thats good, i know most professionals on CSGO don't even play on high settings just to get the extra FPS If you get 150-170 on hight then that should be plenty fine with me. Thanks!

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

No problem!

Charlimander 1 point 9 months ago

Gamdias Zeus is an amazing mouse.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Sweet jesus... That does look like a pretty sick mouse o.O

Charlimander 1 point 9 months ago

It supports claw and palm grip, the buttons are ACTUALLY IN COMFORTABLE PLACES plus the logo is freaking awesome.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Looks pretty sick, may have to keep that one in mind. Thanks for the recommendation!

DownloadMoreRAM 1 point 9 months ago

You should have the Matrix on the side of your graphics card glow red. Nice AMD build, don't see many of those anymore and honestly their just as good as Intel and NVidia. Ignore all the fanboys who will hate on you for going AMD. :P In another build you said you were a poor college kid! Your not! There are a lot of adults who don't have as good as PC's as you. Good job.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

You actually don't get a choice, otherwise I would. The card changes colors depending on how much load is on the card. Blue means idle lol. Oh I know, I expected the haters. AMD is definitely just as good as Nvidia, I don't see what the big deal is.

Oh I definitely am a poor college kid I just wasn't as smart as an adult would be. I put most of it on a credit card and I'm paying it off myself. Going to take a while for that too happen... Thank you though!

DownloadMoreRAM 1 point 9 months ago

Really? that kinda sucks that it changes color depending on the work load! I was thinking about buying it cause I though you could program it to stay solid red and go with the red and black color scheme of my build.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Yeah, it's kind of a bummer. It does go to red but that is only when the card is under extreme load.

smellyolwasp 1 point 9 months ago

How are the a40's without a sound card?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago

Not sure, I haven't gotten them yet :/ They are just on the list of future purchases.

I assume they would be pretty damn good though. A lot of people recommend them. Some even recommend the a40s over the a50s.

Ajaxtheman 1 point 8 months ago

sick build. but some combos are wierd like a 120gb ssd and another 250gb ssd, and two different monitors(that would drive me nuts on my desk), and you no OC with an h100i.

not sayin this is bad its just wierd to me.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I haven't gotten 2 SSDs. The 250gb is pretty much just there if I ever want to get something for the games I play the most. Probably not going to end up doing that anyway lol. The 2 monitors are on there because I'm not sure which one I want to go with. But yah, that would drive me nuts as well.

I just haven't gotten around to overclocking yet, that's all. I'm on break from school for the next few weeks, so I'll get around to it one of these days.

PlasmaBlazer 1 point 8 months ago

How good is the fx8350 for gaming?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I have had no problems. I was just playing Crysis 3 the other day with maxed out settings. There were a few spots where the FPS went below 35 and got kind of choppy. But that is more of a GPU thing.

ali4509 [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

Why do you need two wired mice?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

I don't. I just really don't care for the gigabyte one too much and want to get a new one so I through it on the list.

[comment deleted]

Phibz408 [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

"ColdELITE's Completed Build" is the title of this but in every other comment you are saying you don't have that mouse yet, or you haven't decided between the monitors, or you are thinking about getting a second ssd... that is not a complete build. add the parts to a completed build once they are installed into the system, this is not a wish list of parts mixed in with parts you own... It honestly doesn't matter. When is a computer build ever completed? End of rant.

Hi, quick question regarding the fans. I know the radiator fans are obviously blowing out. But for the other fans, how many are push and how many are pull? Also, which ones are blowing inward and which are blowing out?

I'm thinking of using the kraken g10 as well with the fractal r4. The radiators will blow outward. I'm not sure if the two fans that come with the case is enough, also not sure if they're quiet enough. Do I need more fans? If yes/not, how should I set them up? (It will be i7-4771 and 290x, so lots of heat. I'm trying to make it as silent as possible)

THanks

All of my front fans are intakes. Once I get the g10 installed, the fans on the radiator for that will also be intakes on the front since it is the only place I am going to be able to fit it. The fans on the top and back are both exhaust fans. I have a different case now so it is set up differently than what is in the pictures. Right now, none of them are in push pull but they might be soon. I've been changing up my build recently.

The radiators you buy will come with fans. But if you want something different I would recommend the Corsair SP's Quiet Editions for the radiators you have and their AF fans for case fans. I have all corsair fans and I never really hear them at all, even if the system is under load. There are other fans that are probably better than the Corsair ones (NoiseBlockers, BeQuiet!) But they are all pretty expensive.

I'm thinking of two rads, a big H100i for the CPU and a small one like H50 for the GPU (according to a lot of reviews, even ones crappier than the H50 are suffice). So maybe the H100i on top and the H50 in the back, both blow out; the intake in the front. Is that going to work well? I heard about R4's "moduvent?" for silence, how does that work? If it's setup like what I just mentioned, is that going to affect the silence?

Thanks

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

That is the same exact setup I have. h100i (with 2 SP 120 Quiet editions. Might be 4 soon if I have the room). And I got an h55 for the kraken g10 because it was on sale and seems to have exactly the same specs as the h75 which is around 20 more I think. The h55 will have 2 fans on it, setup in push pull.

That setup should work pretty well. Also, shouldn't really effect silence at all.

You have your rear exhaust as an intake ?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Pretty sure it used to be set as exhaust. Maybe I had it the wrong way.

Did you report your CPU temps as delta over ambient?

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 4 months ago

Not sure actually. I don't think so now that someone mentioned something. I just put in whatever temps HWMonitor was giving me at the time I posted all of this.

IrshaadH [2 Builds] 1 point 4 months ago

ok, because the temps you posted for your CPU seem exceptionally cold even for a liquid cooler, lol

Nice! Good to see another 8350 user. More pics?

At this price point you could have gotten a 4770k and a 780.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 4 points 9 months ago

Eh, that would have been another 400. Intel boards are also a lot more expensive. I was looking to get the best system I could but also keep the cost down as much as I much as possible. $1500 was already more than I wanted to spend but. It's a lot of money when you only make 7.25 an hour and go to school full time...

But in the future, I probably would go Intel.

DjArtifact -1 points 9 months ago

"Intel boards are more expensive" YOU BOUGHT LIKE THE MOST EXPENSIVE AMD BOARD WTF

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 9 months ago

Don't hate on the 8350 =P

DjArtifact -1 points 9 months ago

4770k is A LOT faster tho

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 9 months ago

And A LOT more expensive.

DjArtifact -1 points 9 months ago

And you could have fit it into your build easily.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 9 months ago

That 8350 was just so much more appealing than Intel ;)

When you think about paying for things in terms of how many hours of your life you will have to give. That extra 100+ dollars didn't seem worth it. As I said before, part time job, ****** pay, college full time...

DownloadMoreRAM 2 points 9 months ago

I agree with you I think the 8350 is the best CPU at it's price point. The only reason I went with the i5 4670k was because I wanted the new Maximus VI series mobos.

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago

Oh man, I know. The Maximus series are pretty damn nice. The Black Edition they just came out with, damn. I also got it for it's overclocking too abilities too. Still haven't gotten there though.

There's really nothing wrong with AMD or Intel IMO. I don't fanboy over one of the other. I was actually going to get as Nvidia 770 4gb (I was actually considering Intel for a little while) and then AMD announced the r9 series and the 280x looked just as good as the card I was going to get and it was WAY cheaper. So the whole thing turned into a AMD build lol. Not really my original plan but I'm extremely happy with the performance I get. I was just playing Tomb Raider yesterday and oh my god... Do not regret a thing.

DownloadMoreRAM 2 points 9 months ago

Totally agree with you man. I don't understand why people hate on AMD so much, I was originally going to go AMD myself until the 4th gen Intel processors and 700 series NVidia cards came out. Just couldn't keep my hands off! :P

ColdELITE [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago

Haters gunna hate I guess.

4th gen Intel actually really didn't interest me that much when they came out. I was actually going to get a 3770k, but started looking into them and just decided to go with the 8350.

DownloadMoreRAM 2 points 9 months ago

Unfortunately there will always be fanboys. And it was more the Mobos (and software such as sonic radar that came with the new Maximus VI series) that came with the 4th gen CPU's that I couldn't wait to get my hands on!

MichiganFather -2 points 5 months ago

Why is it either/or ? Can't you have AMD with Nvidia and Intel with ATI if ya wanted ?

DownloadMoreRAM 1 point 5 months ago

Yes you can have an AMD graphics card with an Intel CPU or an NVidia graphics card with an AMD CPU. You just can't have an AMD CPU with a mobo that supports an Intel chipset.
