Description

Using for gaming. Extremely powerful machine, works real well. No problems. Phenomenal CPU & GPU temperatures with all fans set on low. Very quiet considering the amount of fans. 3x 200mm, 3x 120mm, 1x 140mm case NZXT case fans. Dual fans on each video card and 2x 120mm fans for the Corsair H100i radiator. A grand total of 13 fans. The noisiest part of this setup is the H100i pump, which makes a light clicking sound. This is due to the 12v PSU supplying too much power to the pump, but hopefully Corsair will release new firmware or a new connector in the near future. Posting 100+ FPS on most games. Extremely fast loading times thanks to the Samsung 840 Pro SSD. Scored a 7.7/7.9 in Windows Experience Index. Graphics/Gaming Graphics/Primary Hard Disk scored 7.9. Processor 7.7, Memory 7.8. I plan on overclocking the CPU to 4.8-5 GHz in the near future.

Should have waited till the Phantom 630 comes out!

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 4 points 20 months ago

Perhaps, but I didn't really want to spend over $150 on a case. The regular Phantom is real nice though; real sharp. Much nicer in person. Very user friendly, all the panels come off with ease, and cable management was a dream.

Oliver [4 Builds] 2 points 20 months ago

Really? I heard the grommets are to small to call "dream"!

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Nah, they offer plenty of space with room to grow. Nothing was a "tight fit", except maybe the top left grommet where the CPU power cable is routed.

Original Phantom owner here. The hard drive bay 'screws' (those little metal circles with rubber around them) are a pain in the ass.

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

Yeah, I found it easier to totally remove them and then replace them once the hard-drive is in place.

Sabinlerose 2 points 20 months ago

It also lacks USB 3.0 does it not? Unless I'm mistaken there. That's the reason I'm waiting for the 630 anyways.

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 20 months ago

Originally- when I ordered it, I thought the same thing. Thought it had 2x USB 2.0s in the front. When it arrived- to my surprise- it had 1 USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.0 in the front.

Sabinlerose 1 point 20 months ago

Huh. I'm going to have to look into that for sure. Might get the full sized then.

Also, how well did the card reader (Looks like it's a 3.5 inch to 5.25 inch adapter?) go into the case. Read some people having a bit of issues getting them in their case snugly.

Sabinlerose 1 point 20 months ago

Oh nice. The few I have been looking at have been smaller. That helps a lot. Thanks for the link as well!

I think you are going to have a problem overclocking that to 5 ghz

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

You're probably right. 4.5GHz-4.7GHz is probably a safer bet and is probably where I'll settle. I will certainly try pushing for 5 GHz... every chip is different... I'll have to wait and see.

casey2161 1 point 20 months ago

If you can get it to 5 then all power to you. Good Luck

Thanks my friend.

This build is out of this world (pun intended)!

resin34 1 point 20 months ago

Why not the extreme 4? im kind of a newb but they seem similar.

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

There was a good deal on the Extreme6 at the time I purchased it. It's only a shade better, but for an extra $5-10 over the Extreme4, I said why not? I think the only difference is the 6 has more ports in the back, a floppy disk connector (I don't use), and it looks better.

pc_noob [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Did the cables come with the psu?

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Yes, a matter a fact... all I had to buy is 1 extra SATA data cable.

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

For the record, the motherboard came with 4 SATA data cables- I needed 5 for this build.

pc_noob [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

I want one

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

When it comes to PSUs... SeaSonic is the best.

xmiidnight [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Geez with all those fans must sound like a space ship

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

On high it does, but I put most of the case fans on low and can barely hear them. Great airflow + temperatures all around.

th3m4dh4tt3r [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Great build! Although try and put the h100i cables through the cutout right above your motherboard. If I'm not mistaken the phantom does have one.

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Thanks, and thank you for the tip.

stavmar [1 Build] 1 point 16 months ago

Were you able to do this, i am curious to see how it looks...

Javanode [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

out of curiosity, do the fans on the side panel have dust filters?

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Yes. Some people remove them for better airflow, but I chose to keep them.

seafire01 1 point 20 months ago

Do you only run 1 monitor?

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

Right now, yes- a 30" Dell. I want a 3 monitor setup, but will have to upgrade my desk first ;)

Mattios 1 point 14 months ago

Nice! May I ask what card reader you have on the front?

GuruofGangstarr 0 points 20 months ago

You should`ve gave 7970 a look it is much better card then 680 even as of new updated drivers and es Oliver said 630 Phantom is 70ish $ cheaper :D

seafire01 2 points 20 months ago

No, the 7970 may be better for the money, but the 680 is more powerful than the 7970.

SpazeGoat [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 20 months ago

IDK, I was looking at many benchmarks before my purchase- it seemed like the GTX680 was better than the Radeon 7970. Then I compared the 680 to the 670 and many times it appeared to be a 5% difference in performance. They are all great cards, but I decided to settle for 2x 670s. Also, I didn't want to wait for the Phantom 630, or spend $179 on it. Right now the original Phantom full tower is $96.00 and I am very happy with it.
