Description

Hi guys,

First time builder here. Was always a console gamer, and played a few games on my old dell laptop I had in college and played diablo 3 on my macbook pro for a bit :/.

Finally decided to build a PC and it was enjoyable and a good learning experience.

Hopefully my parts and everything looks half way decent! Not sure how to OC yet, I'll look into that. I imagine I'll need a decent CPU cooler for when I do.

Currently using my 42" TV I purchased a while back, and my windows 7 I purchased last year as well.

Let me know for further upgrades and tips!

an almost perfect gaming rig in my opinion and all for just $1,000, I honestly don't see the point in getting more than this unless your a real enthusiast or professional. great job for a first build Tom!

+1

This build is very well balanced. For a livingroom PC, I would have went with a smaller form factor, and still fit all that gear in.

Other than that, game on. +1 for the "VBHTPC" (Very Big Home Theater Personal Computer) :D

hahaha yes, one of the noob moves i made, i got the full tower in and was overwhelmed by how big it was. if i could rebuild i would have gone with a mid. but hey, now i have lots of room for upgrades in the future if i choose to i suppose!

That's a long graphics card!

Very solid build for the price! +1

+1, I like what you did with 1k, but the case is just too damn big.

Can you fit your OS on a 32gb SSD? I thought you needed a 64gb for Win7.

Akut [1 Build] 2 points 10 months ago

it appears to be a caching drive. Not quite as good as installing the OS on the SSD, but is a huge improvement over just using a mechanical drive.

tpk2893 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

yeah, it fits on, and is definitely an improvement over a regular HDD.

Nice build very storm trooper "ish"

I could not tell from the pics, but do you have a front case fan?

cooperred [2 Builds] 1 point 10 months ago

The Phantom comes with 1 in the front, with another available slot

Very nice build! I love the NZXT case too!

I was a bit surprised on the performance of the ready cache with my PC but it really is a lot faster.

The only thing is you should have used a 2X4GB RAM kit rather than 1X8GB. It can affect your performance and costs about the same.

tpk2893 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

yeah, i thats another thing i wish i would have done as well.

xtroria 2 points 10 months ago

Very clean and nice choices on the part, balanced CPU & GPU performance.

You might want to get a better cooler just to OC the i5 to 4.2 Ghz and then it would be performing like a true beast it's intended to

tpk2893 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

thanks! yeah, once i look into OC i'll likely purchase a cooler and do that.

cooperred [2 Builds] 2 points 10 months ago

Nice build! Any reason for going Ivy Bridge instead of Haswell?

tpk2893 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

thanks! tbh not really, my friend recommended this cpu and told me i could OC it later down the road.

18hockey [1 Build] 2 points 10 months ago

nice prices, my build is the exact same price, except my GPU (7950) was cheaper and I got the Phantom 410.

that's the difference between buying times, I guess.
