This all began on Easter. I was bored, and she said her computer was making funny noises, so I checked it out. Her computer was from 2001. It has never been cleaned. Need I say more? The inside was caked with dust. She has been complaining about how slow it was, and then she said, I am about to buy an iMac for $1,500. For the next few hours, I convinced her that it would be overpriced, and that I could build her one that would be MUCH better for $800. So that's what I did. She does a little Photoshop, and the basic user stuff. Like email, and office.
I chose the 3470 because it was a little more than a 3220 at the time, and it has 4 cores, which will be enough for the stuff she does for a LONG time.
She wanted a quiet, small computer, she said "I don't like that big old box sitting on my floor". So I chose a cheap, but elegant Mini-ITX and a cheap H77 ITX mobo.
I had 8gb of RAM lying around, and thought what the heck. It'll last her a long time.
I got an SSD, because she uses only a little bit of storage, and it would be a HUGE upgrade from her old <5400 rpm hdd.
The power supply was a cheap 300w.
The monitor will be a HUGE upgrade from her 800x600 17.5" old one.
Had the optical drive.
She wanted speakers that weren't "Crackly".
Windows 7 because Windows 8 sucks for desktops.
That's about it. She loves it. Says it's INCREDIBLY fast, and totally worth her money. In return the gave me the old computer, which I pawned for $40, and kept the monitor as a second one for web browsing while gaming.
Oh, also, Chipotle rocks.
