For my 16th Birthday, I decided to make my first computer, and I could not be any happier! I use it for everything (school work, movies, music, gaming, SolidWorks, Adobe Premier, LabView, etc.)
CPU: (Purchased for $189.99) This is a wonderful CPU, runs everything great, and is especially awesome at multitasking (I am able to be on the Internet, while playing a game, while having Microsoft Word open.. It's pretty awesome, and I would recommend it to all. I know some people will say, "Oh, you should have gone with the i5-3570k." Well, the Fx-8350 has done nothing to make me regret my decision.
CPU Cooler: (Purchased for $69.99) For the CPU Cooler, I initially had a Cooler Master Hyper Evo; however, as a rookie mistake, I left the cooler mounting bracket on the motherboard when I RMA'd my previous motherboard (Asus M5a99x). Luckily, I was able to buy the 2013 version of the Corsair H60, and I've gotta say that this is an awesome product! It keeps my temps extremely low (15 C when idle and 50 C when gaming).
Motherboard: (Purchased for $152.86) Initially I had the ASUS M5a99x, and it caused me major problems.. I eventually just got a refund for it, and bought the Gigabyte Ga-990X UD3 motherboard. Best purchase ever.. my computer went from a $1500 metal piece of crap to a functioning beast. The Bios if easily navigable (I wish it was UEFI.. but..), there are many SATA ports, many PCI Express slots (for CrossFireX in the future), and even 3 onboard fan headers. Overall, this was a great buy!
Memory: (Purchased for $53.45) I had memory problems as well (I had the Corsair XMS series, and it was faulty).. So I returned the memory, and purchased the G.Skill Ripjaws Series RAM. High quality stuff, looks awesome, runs fast, but my only regret is that I didn't buy the blue version (would have matched my color scheme!).
Hard Drive: (Purchased for $69.99) Purchased this 1.5TB WD Green Hard Drive for a great price at the time (most 1 TB Hard Drives during Christmas season were like $90). Hard drive has plenty of storage space for all my needs.
SSD: (Purchased for $109.99) Again, an awesome deal, and I gotta say one of my best purchases. This SSD boots my computer in 10 seconds after POST beep. It is super fast and I am absolutely amazed by its speed. My only regret is that I didn't buy the 256GB version, so that I can store more games!
Video Card: (Purchased for $174.99) So initially I bought the Nvidia Quadro series card, because I thought that would run all the stuff I wanted... Yeah, I was a major noob! Luckily, I realized my mistake, returned the card, and bought the 7850 1GB (I bought this over the 2GB, because my case is pretty small, and could only fit the reference size cards!). Gigabyte has made a fantastic video card, and it runs all games with ease. It runs pretty cold, even while gaming, and is overall awesome!
Case: (Purchased for $69.29) This case is beautiful! It looks absolutely awesome, love all the blue LED's, and overall it is a great case.
Power Supply: (Purchased for $69.99) 550 Watts was plenty of power for me, and this power supply is Bronze Rated, and modular, which made my first time building experience extremely easy. Cables are nice, but I needed to buy a 8 pin extension in order to route it from the back of my case (first couple weeks it went over the motherboard).
Optical Drive: (Purchased for $23.85) Cheap drive, works with CD's and DVD's, enough for me!
Operating System: (FREE) Had a copy of Windows 7 64bit already, great operating system.
Monitor: (FREE) My dad gave me this monitor. 60hz, screen resolution at 1600x900, everything looks amazing!
Keyboard: (Purchased for $89.99) This mechanical keyboard is absolutely wonderful, it is so much better than a standard keyboard. The Cherry MX Red's are like a cloud to type on, and it is perfect for gaming! I would definitely recommend this to all who are in the market for a mechanical keyboard.
Mouse: (Purchased for $50.86) This mouse is sweet! I love the blue Razer logo on it, and it is pretty perfect for my mouse grip (even with my large hands!).
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my first PC build. I will be overclocking my CPU soon! I spent $891.25 total on the Tower itself, and another $140.85 on the peripherals, for a total of $1032.1. With the fan controller, extra fans, extension, shipping, and other accessories included, this PC came in right under $1150 bucks!
