Description

This has been a continuous build over a few months now. I decided to post it, because it is entering its final stages. This machine is honestly a beast through and through. Hope you guys enjoy! Please do not hesitate to ask any questions in the comments!

You will notice that the 2 Kraken G10s and the 2 H90s are not yet installed. That is because the second Kraken G10 has not arrived yet. As some of you might know, NZXT was bombed with preorders for this item because it was the first of its kind which has been mass manufactured. So, my second order is delayed even more now. Once I install the rest of the parts, I will update this with new pictures.

Also, for some reason, on the parts list, the PSU is labeled just an AX1200. I actually have an AX1200i. Corsair Link is amazing with this product. You can monitor all of the voltages for each device and the total power out and power in for the whole system.

The only reason why I rated the graphics cards 4/5 is because they become unstable under certain overclocks and it is kind of annoying but other than that they are great.

4/15/14 Edit: The Krakens have arrived and have been installed! Pictures to come tonight!

4/28/14 Edit: Kraken pictures are finally up! Sorry for the delay.

6/03/14 Edit: New ram has been installed. Upgraded from my 4x4 Mushkin Kit to a 2x8 Crucial Ballistix Elite Kit. CL9 9-9-9-27 Blazing fast! I plan to get another kit soon to total 32 gigs.

7/23/14 Edit: Posted a picture of the 6 display setup. :)

10/16/14 Edit: I have decided to get rid of my 7970's. The driver support was just terrible. My computer would crash every time I started it because of the ATI driver. Also, whenever I would start to render a game, all the screens would shut off. I have decided to switch to nVIDIA so we will see how this goes. I have heard from multiple people that the Gigabyte G1 970 is a beast in every aspect. Sadly, I have not gotten to try out the card for myself yet because my motherboard somehow got fried. So, I am waiting on Asus to ship me a replacement.
Also, I have decided to go back to three monitors (I have sold the other three). It was just a big hassle to move them every three months when I change locations for school. Around December, I might pick up a 4K GSync monitor to replace the middle monitor.

So plenty of upgrades in the near future!

10/30/2014 Edit: Pictures of the 970 setup will be posted soon!

11/04/2014 Edit: Most recent pictures have been posted.

But can it run TurboTax?

wiredin321 1 Build 6 points 5 months ago

he should, although another GPU wouldn't hurt.

source: I am TurboTax

DanZ1lla 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

LOL

caleb_meyers -1 points 7 months ago

hahaha

Akut 1 Build 25 points 14 months ago

That f&$%ng setup man... wow!

Too many people on this AMD hate-train. Imma +1 you!

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 7 points 14 months ago

oh yea lol and tell me about it... haha more cores ftw!

Akut 1 Build 4 points 14 months ago

have you hit 6Ghz yet? I have a buddy who owns the same processor with an H100i and he can hit 5.8 stable single threaded, 5.6 across all cores. He wants to know where his chip stands compared to others.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

Not yet. What are his voltages for a stable 5.6 run? Also, what board is he running on?

B-Wootang 3 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

yup the AMD hate-train is massive and for no reason really. Like the ford vs Chevy debate. I bet you'd be a bunch of up-votes higher if it wasn't for it.

+1 here.

SteveMate 1 point 1 month ago

just saying holdern for the win

zabb74 1 Build 8 points 14 months ago

This is possibly the sexiest Corsair Air 540 build that I've seen so far.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 4 points 14 months ago

That was my goal..... lol :)

sprinter461 7 Builds 4 points 12 months ago

Yeah I'll second that. I generally do NOT like that case, not my style...but this makes it look good. I could live with this. ;)

Silvake 6 points 14 months ago

Probably the best AMD build I have ever seen.

skemble 21 Builds 5 points 14 months ago

This thing is sexy! I bet this thing is going to look even more so when you get the G10s in there! Have you done any overclocking on the 9590?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 4 points 14 months ago

I know! I have overclocked a little bit, but I need to play with the voltages a little more to stabilize it better. I've gotten it up to around 5Ghz currently.

skemble 21 Builds 3 points 14 months ago

What voltage did you set to run at 5?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 3 points 14 months ago

Varied around 1.52 - 1.6 depending on other factors.

skemble 21 Builds 2 points 14 months ago

I have run my 8350 at 1.525 to get to 4.8, benchmarking purposes only, but I unfortunately didn't get the golden 5.0 chip.

Wizzzz 4 points 14 months ago

Holly! what on earth do you do to need this?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 12 points 14 months ago

I do some extreme gaming, especially with 3-way eyefinity. This was meant to be a computer that will last a long time and always do whatever I need. Also, possibly bragging rights between friends... lol

Wizzzz 6 points 14 months ago

well then i think you have them outplayed sir

Fishfam 5 points 14 months ago

He better not need this for Minecraft. :P

MichaelLarter 3 points 12 months ago

Minecraft 2.0 ;p You will probably :D

Gingydaman 2 points 8 months ago

i was thinking farm ville

SneakyBastardSword 1 point 8 months ago

naw man I think it might only be able to do nethack around 1-2 FPS XD

jfrucht25 2 points 10 days ago

No, he bought this to be able to render ms paint.

nada190 3 Builds 3 points 14 months ago

Now this is a REAL AMD build. Also ditch those speakers and setup something better, but hey that's just me, if my room was that awesome.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

They are actually pretty good for the price... 40 bucks lol Not much of an audio guy, but I will probably upgrade later. lol

18hockey 1 Build 3 points 14 months ago

Please for the love of god tell me you overclock that bad boy.

Also, custom loop in the future?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 3 points 14 months ago

haha oh yes of course!

And possibly... I estimated out all the parts I would need and it came out to be just under 800 bucks... ugh lol

Brodzster 3 points 8 months ago

that chair though!

ThePersonDotCom 2 points 14 months ago

This thing is beyond epic, Great part selection, but I would've chosen a different 140mm AIO. The CM Nepton 140XL is a much better 140mm AIO, it's solid black, better fans, and comes stock in push/pull, and it's relatively new, so naturally, the software's most likely better. I wish every waking second that I had gotten it over my Kraken X40. That said, this is a great, well-chosen, well-executed build.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

Thanks! The only reason why I went with the H90 was because it was relatively inexpensive compared to the other options and I was trying to stay with Corsair as much as I could. Also, any watercooling on a GPU will be better than the stock fans and heatsink.

motomitch 2 points 14 months ago

oh my glob this build is beautiful

LoaderFabi 2 points 13 months ago

Boy, THATS an awesome AMD Build :D But I think the case is more for Server... Buy a HDD-Bay, put it next to the case und it looks like a Server from a movie. Aaaaaand the Idea whith the fourth Screen is pretty awesome :D Sleeved Cables, Red Board, Red Cables, Red CaseFans, RED EVERYTHING. But I think an Asus VideoCard would make the Black'n'Red optics better :D

Hope you understand my bad english :D

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

It is an amazing case! I will post some pictures tonight. I finally was able to install my 2 G10's bringing up the build to fully red and black. :)

LoaderFabi 2 points 12 months ago

Ohhhh Daaaamn :D

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Sorry about not posting more pics. I got distracted then and have been really busy with work etc. I will make sure I post today during lunch lol

LoaderFabi 1 point 12 months ago

You're kidding me? A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! More Custom- More Red :D

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I basically just did what you said... lol I got an 8 bay RAID tower and its sitting on top of the case. I plan to give it a red and black color scheme soon!

LoaderFabi 1 point 7 months ago

Haha, okay. Just saying. Looks like a little Server with an Drive bay :D

Bantha-cain 2 points 12 months ago

Wow...umm...wow. Spectacular build!

JustAnotherGamer 2 points 10 months ago

One Word: DAYUM.

The_K19 1 Build 2 points 9 months ago

+1 for the chair in the last pic

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Lol I know not the best chair that there is but it sure beats transporting my big leather chair to school and back but thanks!

xx116xx 3 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

PolishXlion 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

AMazing compaed to my current build

actechy 6 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Wow. Turned out real clean

Jason_Anderson 1 point 14 months ago

Nice looking build. Just 1 question, why not a 4770K?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 11 points 14 months ago

Because more cores...

lol but seriously, I wanted to go for a total AMD build because it is slightly less expensive and it is on the same level or better as the 4770K. Also, it can be pushed farther, easier.

scorch883 -1 points 11 months ago

but it makes sense being an AMD BUILD not INTEL

scorch883 -4 points 11 months ago

i like your pc but thats not true

Cryllic 1 Build 4 points 10 months ago

For gaming purposes it is totally true, it may be about %5 -%7 behind in some games or even more with a select few, but for gaming purposes it is pretty much right there with a 4770k. Now for most of your synthetic benchmarks the 4770k is way ahead, and most encoding it is also way ahead. However for the stated purpose of extreme gaming the 9590 is not a slouch and it fits with the theme the builder wanted. Hats off sir for your excellent build.

Erik 1 Build 1 point 7 days ago

No... I don't understand why people on teh web are so loyal to AMD, but this simply isn't true. The FX 9590 only matches a Core i3 in most games, and doesn't come close to an i5-4690K or i7-4790K in the overwhelming majority of titles when playing at high framerates. The FX-9590 will be a bottleneck long before similar priced Intel CPUs.

Video encoding and synthetic benchmarks are where the FX-9590 performs at its best, since these tasks are parallel. Gaming is not parallel... they can be written to have certain tasks run on separate threads, but they are not a gracefully scaling workload, and Intel is simply much better for gaming.

If you're playing at 45 fps with something like a GTX 750 at 1080P or an R9 290 at 4K, then yeah sure there's no difference between an FX CPU and an Intel CPU... but if you're looking for rock solid 60 fps in latest triple A titles or want to push 120/144 fps without frame dips, the Intel will be SUBSTANTIALLY better than the AMD CPU.

I don't know why everyone finds this such a hard pill to swallow...

Jason_Anderson -13 points 14 months ago

More cores but really? The Intel is hyper-threaded which effectively makes it an 8 core in all but name. But yeah I concede the AMD is 8 cores out of the box. However in real world computing the Intel would blow that out of the water on stock settings. On single core computing (90%+ of what most people use) the 4770k is pound for pound the best puncher out there. Any prog that uses up 4 cores (and beyond) the AMD could never compete.

Slightly less expensive? you penny pinch on the single most important part of the build that is a strange avenue to take. Especially when you are talking about a huge $3000 + budget

I guess if you truly wanted an AMD build then yeah you got the best. Still it does look sexy though.

Erik 1 Build 1 point 7 days ago

Well if he does a lot of work with VMs, video encoding etc. the FX-9590 will do pretty well, but yeah overall an i7 would have been a lot better especially for gaming (unless he only plays MOBAs or source games) and I don't understand the mentality behind saving $50 on a crucial part of the build on a >$3000 rig.

joshj2398 1 Build -17 points 14 months ago

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4770K-vs-AMD-FX-9590

Edit: Why the down votes? Pissed about the truth or something?

welshdiesel 1 Build 18 points 14 months ago

No because cpu boss is garbage.

joshj2398 1 Build -11 points 14 months ago

Back that up with evidence. Prove to me it's garbage. I've used it plenty of times and haven't seen any problems with it.

Se1fD3struct1on 1 Build -13 points 14 months ago

Ain't that the truth? AMD has no value anymore.

dfour802 -7 points 14 months ago

I'd say that the only thing AMD is really "good" for is very tight budget build or unless someone really needs those extra cores at a strict budget, but the likelihood of that is almost never.

Akut 1 Build 13 points 14 months ago

A few frames for a couple hundred bucks. Once you pass the FX threshold, into intel territory, you start getting massive diminishing returns on the price/power ratio. AMD seems to have hit a sweet spot for most of their FX lineup.

Oh, and 280 bucks for that 8-core 4.7Ghz monster is a great price. If OP wants AMD, OP will get AMD :D

Lokisson 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Have fun with that. I wish I had the dough to buy such a monster +1

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 3 points 14 months ago

Keep in mind this was not a buy everything at once build. I acquired the parts over a time with a full time job that pays extremely well. lol

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

But, I do admit it was a big chunk of change.

Apach3 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

"extreme" and "AMD" are not usually in the same sentence when describing a build, but in this case yeah it's pretty extreme :D

did you really pay $1060 for two HD7970s? my impression is that you bought them when they first came out and not recently, because goodness gracious how the price has gone up on them!

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 5 points 14 months ago

I had to make a statement! lol

And no. I did not pay that much for the two, I would never! haha I got the first one for 300 and the second one for 400. I did not modify the prices to match what I actually bought them for. I will try to do that now.

Apach3 2 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

i kinda had a feeling you didn't pay such an obscene post-mining price tag, so that's good to hear.

Fangarai 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

This build is truly a beauty. Love the red scheme. +1

CarterBond 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

When you get the G10s you should put heatsinks on the ram. It might help some.

YodelingTerror 1 point 14 months ago

Wow, awesome. But why the 60hz monitors? Are you using this for gaming or no?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I did not want to drop too much on a nice monitor setup. They are smooth enough for me. lol and Yes, I am.

YodelingTerror 1 point 14 months ago

So they are adequate for gaming? I'm wondering cuz I need a new monitor and I want to know what refresh rate I need.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

I am not a firm believer of the idea that you can see over approx 75fps. So, for me they are absolutely perfect. Especially being IPS Panels. My friend has a 120hz monitor and I do not notice any difference... lol If you want to read some research on this here is a link: http://amo.net/NT/02-21-01FPS.html

YodelingTerror 1 point 14 months ago

Ok cool. All I wanted to know. Ty for the link

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

No problem!

Why 2 optical drives?

And for some reason, I really want to see a custom loop in this

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I clone a lot of discs so it's really covinient. And me too...! lol

Se1fD3struct1on 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

why is one 7970 more expensive than the other?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

I got the first one before the price jump for AMD cards. I got the second one after the jump off ebay.

welshdiesel 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Added to favorites. +1

robertpal 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

hmm can u tell me how much power u consume and pay for month? the only reason that I do not like a Amd build is for power consumption, which in my country is pretty high. Thank's !

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

I honestly have no idea. I am currently in a coop program in college so I never have to pay for my own power. I do kind of want to measure it though.

robertpal 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Thank's.. when u do find the power consumption between AMD and Intel let me know please ! thank's. ! there are kinda a small devices to mesure power consumtions.. but it's like 20 bucks a piece :(

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 13 months ago

Well just for starters:

AMD 7970 GPU Max Power Draw is 335 Watts while the Nvidia 780Ti is 250 Watts.

AMD 9590 CPU Max Power Draw is 220 Watts while the Intel 4770K is 84 Watts.

Cryllic 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

the 4770k can draw a lot more than just 84watts btw. There are reviews showing an OC'd 4770k 4.5ghz using about 160. Of course that being said it is still not as much as the 9590 at stock and the 9590 can of course draw more as well.

robertpal 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

jesus , big difference :(. this data are under load or idle , or just data from somewhere? thank's!

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 13 months ago

These are all official under full load numbers.

gmos 1 point 13 months ago

SWEET!

BlastXin 1 point 13 months ago

The boxed shape case looks definitely cool with red color, but I wouldn't put that on a desk compared to a tower. I want to know, why do you need dual optical drives?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

I clone a lot of discs for multiple reasons. Mainly to distribute programs to friends, etc.

bigapplepietart 1 point 13 months ago

EPIC! Duuuude that's sick!

Pencil465b 1 point 13 months ago

how quiet are those AF140's? Im consitering in buying some. Nice build btw! :3

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

At 100% they are amazingly quiet! Compared to the SP's they are a worlds difference but with still great air flow.

how do the 7970's run games on ultra

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

Amazing if the games are optimized for crossfire...! Smooth 60fps for everything.

cough Titanfall...

6thcousin 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

I doubt this could run turbotax I hear it takes a 16 core opteron

Waits 1 point 12 months ago

Great build. Torn between the Air 540 or the Corsair 750D.

godofchuck 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

I don't know why everyone ******* about AMD. Now I will concede that i think the 9590 is a bit of a black sheep, horribly hot and inefficient with no real place in the market right now. But the majority of AMDs processors are well priced and very competitive, especially if all you are doing is gaming. My rig has an 8350k. replaced my 3570k when i started streaming. I get the slightly better fps on most games while streaming, and its a cheaper processor.

infinitemerald 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Wow, those Krakens make the build look even more beautiful! Keep up the amazing work, my friend :D

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Thanks! I just installed the NZXT Hue so you know... infinite colors!! lol

P.S. If you get it and your blue leds don't work... Don't get pissed like I did and just flip the connector to the led strip haha

infinitemerald 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

XD So is it working fine now?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

Yes thankfully. After reading some articles online (after I had already fixed it), I found that there is apparently a tiny arrow that is supposed to be lined up with the positive terminal on the strip. But who reads the instructions anyways... lol

Basically there are four terminals in the cable. 1.) +5v 2.) Red Control 3.) Green Control 4.) Blue Control

When you flip the connector the power cable goes to the blue (which means you don't get control over the blue). Then the controls for the red and green are flipped (which I also noticed). And finally, the whole strip is greatly dimmed because the power cable is not properly hooked up.

infinitemerald 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

lol, I can see what you did now. Anyways, good build!

theproadam 1 point 11 months ago

Why does 1 Video card cost more than the other?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 11 months ago

I got the less expensive one before the crypto currency craze (before the price jump for all AMD cards).

Sambishop 1 point 11 months ago

Is the back fan a intake ?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

No, it is exhaust.

Sambishop 1 point 11 months ago

Many you should switch to intake to get more air for the rads

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 11 months ago

Now that I think about it, that would be a good idea to get more airflow to the top rad. thanks!

Sambishop 2 points 11 months ago

Hey your welcome that's what this community is for :)

TheGamingRepublic 1 point 10 months ago

am in a sort of dilemma here and i was hoping someone could help me preferably you kots1010. i want to build a pc i am using 2 evga 780 sc acx with 6gb vram not in sli. well here is the problem i have 3 monitors in the build but i can not decide on 144hz or 60hz 144hz is so expensive but i have heard is very smooth but the monitors you use i have heard look very nice and that i don't need 144hz so what should i get and how do you like the monitors? thank you. permalink parent delete reply

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

If you have the money to drop on three 144hz monitors then by all means go ahead and get them! lol 144hz is buttery smooth especially if you have the gpu power to run them fully. But, if you are looking for a more economical way of doing a 3x1 setup then I would definitely recommend the monitors I am using. Yes, they do not have super high refresh rates or super high resolutions, but they work just fine! I absolutely love them and being great IPS panels makes the deal even better. 180 bucks for a brand new one is honestly a steal if you compare them to other similar IPS panels. The only thing bad about them is that they do not have vesa mounts... but a little ingenuity can fix that. lol I have 6 of them right now set up in a 3x2 configuration with a PWR+ 3x2 stand. I basically just used industrial strength velcro and then covered the rest of the mounting bracket with gorilla tape. You can honestly swing the monitor from the vesa bracket, when velcroed and taped, and it will not go anywhere (I have tried lol). The monitors are holding on the stand just perfectly and I have no worries about them holding for the rest of their lives.

Also, why are you not running your 780s in SLI? And does each card have 6gigs of vram or is that 6gigs shared? i.e. 3gigs on each card

TheGamingRepublic 1 point 10 months ago

each card has 6gigs and thx and i am not running sli cuz i want to split the power of one card to the outer monitors and the power of one card to the center.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

those must be some beast cards and oh that is a good idea! unless you want to play with surround lol

TheGamingRepublic 1 point 10 months ago

well i think i am going to sli them

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

I think that's the better idea. Considering the two side monitors will not take up near as much resources as the game so there would not be a huge point in dedicating them to their own massive card. Good luck!

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

I will be able to on July 12th. I will update then.

Cryllic 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

The G10 only supports 7970 and 280x with limited support. Just curious if you slapped them and all was good or did you have to order the shims mentioned by NZXT?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

No. I did not have to do anything else with a shim. I actually ordered one just to make sure but I ended up not using it.

Sh4dow_Ph4ntom 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

well... safe to say i shouldn't build a red/black pc because i'll feel sad that yours just looks like the sex..

+100 if i could but +1 will have to do, awesome build man

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Lol thanks! You should try though!

kooldre56 1 point 10 months ago
Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

Ryo_Hyamaru 1 point 9 months ago

I think he meant in theory not an actual build he did, but that is one sexy BEAST of a machine. How's the temperature on the CPU? I heard the 9590 gets pretty hot even with decent water cooling.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

At idle, I can get it to around 25 degrees and under load it only goes up to around 60.

kooldre56 1 point 7 months ago

didnt happen

SpicyPickle 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Great build, but how did you put the Kraken G10 in without it being a custom part?

Plus one by the way!

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

They added them as a native part if you search it in the upper right corner!

SpicyPickle 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Cool, thanks man!

DaSheepDontLie 1 point 8 months ago

I don't think this is enough to run Minesweeper... Needs some more... TITAN!

TAZTG 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Love the Red Black Theme, have the same theme in mine. Confused about price difference in your monitors 120 or 149, figuring you picked the 3 up after a price drop. Great Job Man, Don't you just love this case!

I first bought 3 brand new and then I decided to buy the next 3 refurbished. They are like brand new so it did not really matter. And Thanks! Yes, I do love this case. So much space and the dual chamber design is amazing. I just wish there were more 3.5" HDD mounts... Also, I love the paint job you did on the mesh of your case! Looks good!

TAZTG 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks, the mesh was a nice little mod.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

Do you think painting the mesh like you did would still look as damn good as it does on your case if you had red led fans and red led strips lining the sides of the front like I do? Also, do you think you loose any cooling performance with only a dual fan setup on your h100i instead of a push pull?

TAZTG 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

CPU stays nice and cool of course I am not doing any serious overclocking. The Mesh would look nice with or without LED Fan & Lights.

İs there any important differences between 1600 mhz ram and 1866 mhz ram ? Which one do you recomend ? why ?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

You only really need 1600 mhz for daily use and even for games. Faster memory speeds really come in handy when you are processing tons of information. But, you need to find a balance between speed and latency if price is a issue for you. The sticks I am running right now are currently 1866 mhz (enough speed for what I need) but they are CL9 9-9-9-27, much faster compared to CL12 for example. The latency is basically the number of nanoseconds that it takes for the next call to a memory address to be made. So, the lower the latency, the more calls you can make in a lesser amount of time. So I guess my question would be what applications are you planning on using your system for because that will depend on what type of memory you want.

I just looked at your build and I assume that is what you are asking about. The ram you have in there right now is perfectly fine for video rendering. Even though it is 1600mhz it is still CL9 so it is still very fast. Yes 1866 would have been more suitable for video rendering but you would not have seen much of a difference between the two running at the same latency.

in corsair web page, there is an information about number of max ram slots. İt says, when it is 1866 mhz ram, you can use only two memory slots. When it is 1600 mhz ram, you can use 2 or 4 memory slots. http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-1866mhz-c9-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2a1866c9 FAQ and support - Corsair Memory Compatibility with AMD Platform So, Can I use four pcs 1866 mhz ram in 4 slots? Thanks very much.

I see you are also running a 9590 so RAM should have no issue with your system. Websites for RAM compatibility are always super specific and crazy. You kind of just have to go with it and make sure all the basic stuff lines up. For example, my motherboard only has 3 certified to work RAM kits and I am using one that is not on the list and it works fine. The section you are probably talking about deals with overclocking. This is true that you do not want to have all the DIMMS full when overclocking because it allows for a higher overall clock speed of your sticks. However, in your case, you should have no issue achieving 1866 mhz with 4 DIMMS full.

INNUENDO44 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I understand. I can use 4 dımms full in 1866 mhz. Thanks for answer. :)

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

How did you mount the monitors?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Gorilla Tape

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Honestly it's amazing... Do you want me to post a pic? It's a pretty crazy setup. I first had a single monitor. Then I got another two and then I got six. Then, I realized that I would need a way to mount these and the monitors conveniently did not have vesa mounts. So I just found the stand with the flattest and widest vesa mounts and taped the monitors to them. They are not going anywhere. lol

Pcgamer20001 1 point 8 months ago

Why 2 optical drives.

Pcgamer20001 1 point 8 months ago

OMG 6 monitors tho

caleb_meyers 1 point 7 months ago

i would have no life if i had that build

How is that MB doing for the fx9590? I had to update the bios on my MB because I had the Fx 8150 and then I got the 9590 and my MB is the Gigabyte 990fxa ud5 and was wondering if I would get more power out of my cpu if I get a better MB.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

It all depends on the power solution your board implements. Both boards, the asus and the gigabyte, have the same power phase delivery system so you will probably not see any improvements in the power output of your cpu. I would stick with what you have now because it is a great board!

How do the Windforces sound, are they loud?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 3 points 6 months ago

I have not gotten a chance to test them out yet, more in the description about that, but my friends all say they are not the quietest but they are very effective with tolerable noise levels. Some say they can barely hear the fans over their normal case fans and their temps don't break 70 degrees while under load.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

lol oh yes it can! and thanks!

Bibblode 1 point 5 months ago

I am really loving this build. I have a build that I am planning to build once I get my tax returns. It is located here, http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bibblode/saved/TBNscf. Please keep in mind that yes AMD cards do run better with AMD CPUs but I already have the Titan Black so I am not going to be purchasing another GPU. This is mainly going to be a media server for my room as well as be used for gaming. Let me know what I can do to reduce the cost/beef it up more. The type of build I am going for is silence as well as speed ans storage.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Thanks! And your build looks pretty solid. I do not have any recommendations as to lower the price. You are really going to enjoy that 9590 paired with a titan black.

Can u change the LED lighting on the base to other colors like green or turn it off..so it matches my Razer Setup

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 4 months ago

I assume you mean the base of the Swift. If so, sadly, you can not change the color. However, you can turn it off in the on screen menu of the monitor itself.

Cxel 1 point 4 months ago

I really would like to know which led strips you got to do that magenta coloring on your most resent photo

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 4 months ago

I have the NZXT Hue installed in the case. The leds in the unit are great. With alot of control over which color you choose, the brightness, and the mode in which they display. If you are going to get them, then I would recommend getting a roll of skinny double sided tape to use, because the pre-applied adhesive starts to peel away after a few weeks. Or, at least that has been my experience.

Cxel 1 point 4 months ago

Thank you so much, My sister is looking to start getting a good gaming rig and she'd love that color.

This is an awesome build. Clean all the way. I love AMD CPUs and have used them in multiple builds. They work great. I am getting ready to use a Samsung 840 Evo SSD for my next build, with AMD 8350 CPU. Keep up the great work!

maxence822 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

Wow! Well I have to say I am pleasantly disappointed. I thought I would be the first to have a build like that (still in progress, same general idea as what you have except I'm going for some white LED lights). I guess someone beat me to it :P Just one thing I would like to say though, my aircooled FX 9590 gets about 5 degrees lower on load, so this might not mean anything as it could be related to room temperature or something like that but I'm just putting that out there.

Padlock248 1 point 3 months ago

How has the 970 been treating you? I'm thinking of swapping out a different card for that card.

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

It is amazing! It works wonders with the swift lol

Oyebanji 1 point 3 months ago

this looks way more expensive than the build estimate suggests ..

great build!

hahaha thanks! The total cost does add up pretty quick over time. lol

With the abilities of that Mono and processor that can be used with an AMD video card, you should have got a R9 295X2! With these new abilities like Mantle ETC, you could have gotten some serious power towards the future. But that's just my opinion. Yeah I know "FANBOYISUM, FANBOYISUM!" whatever. The 970 just disappointed me. Nvidia ripping people off with 3.5 gigs of ram, will never go back. Well anyway great build! +1 on it bud, looks great and has some kickass benchmarks so you know that's great! :)

Treemantula 1 point 2 months ago

Hey um, I'm looking to make a build with the FX-9590 and I have the same motherboard but I was looking around to see how compatible it was because I've heard on a lot of forums that the boards sometimes don't work with the processor even if it's supposed to be compatible. So, I was just wondering if you have had any problems with that motherboard and the processor? Also, I have the same cooler for it, the H100I and I wanted to know if it kept it cool enough. Thanks! (:

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

I have full compatibility with my machine! Also, the H100i does great for my uses. Good luck with your build!

pritham2000 1 point 1 month ago

Would a fx 8350 bottleneck a single gtx 970?

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

You should not have any issues running a single 970.

pritham2000 1 point 1 month ago

Thanks. I did however go with a i5 4460.

Great build!.....I'm using the same case...so I know how easy cable management is.....just don't realy get the idea of DVDs in...."SLI/Crossfire" ? ;):) Use to be with the red team....but switched to green guys and kept red colour only as a case theme :)

bkrev 0 points 4 months ago

how's ROG swift ??

cuz i hate red shytes

Kots1010 submitter 1 Build 2 points 4 months ago

Personally, I love it. My 970 can run most of my games. I plan on getting another in order to play Crysis 3 and games like that along with some CUDA work. G-Sync might be a little funky to first get working, but when it does, it really works.

MorlanV 1 Build -5 points 12 months ago

I'm not a fan of AMD, infact I dislike AMD, but I really enjoy this entire setup. I love the case, it looks great with the red LED fans, especially hidden by the mesh next to the DVD drives.
