Description

This is my 1st personal build after my 8 month deployment. Was fun to work on but also a pain and took 8hrs to build it.

The pics above show the build and you will also notice i re-did the cable management after the 1st 2 internal shots which made me feel better. Sorry for the flash and pic quality but thats a smart phone for ya and i could not see anything without the flash on.

CPU: Very nice cpu even tho its not OC atm i plan on doing so since my cooler keeps it so cold at its basic clock rate. Does everything i need it to do and allows me to do more on Autocad. I shouldn't need a new cpu for a long time

CPU Cooler: I did allot of research for coolers and after looking at the kraken and seeing how it would be best for OC for just a closed loop i picked that. The only thing i wish i could do is pull/push but it still is a beast just in pull set-up and i have had problem with any high demanding and it only tops it about 35 on most things.

Thermal Compound: Besides the graphite TC this is one of the best out there and has been keeping the CPU at very low temps and will be perfect when i OC it to 4.6

Motherboard: Great Mobo and was not DOA out of the box which was even better. The integrated sound card makes it so you don't need a sound card at all its superb. Its heavy but sturdy and i like the cover for it and the fact i can H20 cool it later once i get the parts and decide to do it. Tho it does lack internal USB points more would of been nice. The wireless card that comes with it is super fast with the right router. The Back plate for the board is heavy but great for cooling the mobo back end points near the CPU. Was a rather easy board to install and add stuff to it and the memory connectors were really easy to install the ram. I would use this again in another build for a buddy no prob.

Memory: Yea 32gb of ram "but its only 1600" so? don't need it really any faster and its got a cas lat of 7 so its fast enough in my book. The system tends to auto cache about 16gb of it so it helps out the HDD and SSD allot. Not really using much atm until the big games start coming out but that will be soon enough.

Storage: The 64gb SSD is used to cache the hard-drives which make them rather fast. The 240gb SSD is for the OS and other programs. one 4tb Is meant for games mainly steam games since i have so many even tho it doesn't show 4tb its partitioned into 2x 2tb drives. Same with the other 4tb meant for all other junk I.E. Photo's/videos and various other things. The 2x raptors were free with the purchase of the 4tb HDD's so i raid 0 those and will be using my high end games on those.

Video Cards: These 2x GTX780's are monsters and in sli they are perfect. They don't really get hot i played the BF4 Beta on max settings and they got to about 58-60C and the performance is superb! "But why arnt you using multiple monitors?" space lack of space... i got 2 other monitors but am waiting till i get a new place and a bigger desk to be able to use them. The Cards make using Auto-cad rather easy and smooth exspecially in the 3d mode for the layouts which normally eat up cards but not these guys! Also i tend to bottleneck some games at 120fps and no higher since they are rather old but the more modern games tend to level around 90-126 fps depending on the games.

Case: This thing is HEAVY and rather large. It weighs about 57lbs with everything but the case is about 47lbs by its self. The case has more cables that come with it than a large plate of spaghetti. Cable management was annoying but thankfully the case was made for it. The only thing i didn't really like about it is that the MOBO location could of been lowered and still would have room for everything but because of this the Cable for the CPU power prevented any possibility of doing a push/pull for the CPU cooler (I looked for alternate way but no luck). All and all its nice its rather sound proof and the fact that the doors can come off to easy access more stuff in it makes it nice. Also the filters are a nice touch to it and the fan control for it makes it even better.

Dah Fans: The 140mm was used to replace the exhaust no prob with it. Added 2x of the AF 120mm to exhaust the GPU heat but seems like i need to get the SP versions to push the air through the side filters. I added a 120mm for the HDD inlet for better airflow and it has no prob. I replaced the stock fans on the kraken with the bitfenix 140mm for better airflow and they work really well for now, might change them with a better fan later. The only issues i ran into is the rubber suppressors for 120mm corsair fans rip off to easily when installing them thus i had to be gentle with tightening the screws on them and destroyed one fan in the process... Thank god for a spare fan. Also they are all rather quite even on high =)

PSU: This thing is nice and i will be using it for a long time hopefully. Its rather quite and has plenty of free watts to flex if need be which will be useful later. Never thought i would use pretty much every power connector excpt for 3x 8pin PCI-E's yea i used allot but it distributes the power evenly to everything so no issues.

OS: I picked windows 8 more for the performance and other than some minor flaws i am rather content with it and can do everything with out a hitch.

Monitor: Love this thing so pristine and almost perfect... Have 1 dead pixel which i am in the process to get it fixed so that is on the backburner for the support to help me with that

Keyboard: Cheap yes well to me and everything else on this but its only temp and rather annoying to game with especially when the response on the keys tend to lock up or not read. Would not recommend this to anyone. Plan on getting the new ROCCAT RYOS MK PRO red cherry once its out so that will be a nice $170 investment for this =P.

Mouse: Makes gaming more conveniant and plenty of buttons for making other hotkeys or using the basic 1-= buttons or the num pad.

Speakers: Love them and the sub woofer is a freaken monster for its size and ever so often in certain games it will jet a blast of air out of no where from the high bass. Rather Awesome speakers for a 2.1

Headset: Love these things So comfy and sound so superb not to mention all the controls for it and the wireless distance goes a pretty good distance. Would buy these things again if they broke!

So for everything i have its beast like no other but still plenty to dish out and plan on pushing this thing further to see what it can do. I do want to MOD the case and change its color and add a window to it but ill wait till i get my new place. Also will add a custom H20 Cooling to it later after i mod the case. But for now its plenty and more for what i do and It will be fully used ill make sure of that. Also this took about 6 months of learning and research to pick these parts I am rather happy with the outcome of this. Just need to get 2x corsair SP fans and ill be happy.

Fantastic build. Definitely wish I could build something on this scale. And let me be the first to say thank you for your service and glad you made it home safely.

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 5 points 14 months ago

thnx and no prob =)

RyneSmith [7 Builds] 6 points 14 months ago

As amazing as your build is I feel that some money was wasted. If this is just for gaming some areas could have been cut back etc etc but I won't get into it as it's your money and your computer.

That being said it is an awesome rig so congrats on the build and like Comet said, thank you for serving our country

+1

Nah i would of made a cheaper build if it was just gaming and would of just went with a I5 rather than the I7 Also 2 of the programs i got recently tend to heat up my 780's and heat up the room. Trust me there is a reason for everything =P And it does overkill gaming.

RyneSmith [7 Builds] 1 point 14 months ago

Alright well I'm glad to hear it's not just used for gaming

What programs do you run?

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

Besides the 2011 auto-cad? Well Adobe Photoshop, Coral Editing studio pro, Looking into possibley making flash animations since i have always been intrigued with those animations, Wanted to try and give it a shot my self. There are a couple other programs i would like to get but not as demanding.

yobrobob [2 Builds] 2 points 10 months ago

The real question is: Can it run Windows?

xSWATxBadkid [1 Build] 3 points 14 months ago

SIRmisterD 2 points 14 months ago

Well firsts thing first, Thank you for your service. From the description you said " my 8th month deployment," so I am assuming you were in service. Thank you.

What a beast you have here, great build. I think all of us here wish we could build something on even half the scale of this. Enjoy it!!!!

sqielyr 2 points 14 months ago

Nice build cable management is good, part choice is good, the build is pretty much perfect.

p.s. If those parts ever get to outdated for you, you can always p.m. uncle sqielyr and he will gladly take them FREE of charge. :)

Itroitnyah [1 Build] 2 points 14 months ago

I have that same exact laundry basket in your second picture.

Nice build

JakeyU72 [3 Builds] 1 point 14 months ago

Link to desk? :D

JakeyU72 [3 Builds] 1 point 14 months ago

What do you mean by "shakey"? If it's because of the wheels, I can just remove them. If it moves when you type or when you rest your hands on the desk, then that's a different story.

xBlood_Monkey [9 Builds] 1 point 14 months ago

First off, I want to say this is an amazing build.

Secondly, why only a single 1080p monitor?? I know it's 120Hz capable, but you could've grabbed a 27" 1440p for the same price.

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

Read the description on video cards

xBlood_Monkey [9 Builds] 1 point 14 months ago

That didn't answer my question. Why didn't you opt for a 27" 1440p?

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

Ah sorry i think i misread that for something else. The resolution is to high for my eyes and i already have problems with 1080p. Less space for me means less stress on my eyes also i can focus better on a 24" compared to anything higher than that. I would go higher resolution if my eyes wernt so bothered and i already use reading glasses and flux to relax my eyes better.

bigblock454 1 point 14 months ago

i wish i could have this lol nice

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 1 point 14 months ago

Holy crap that is a monster.

ArrKayCee [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

Wow...this is awesome! The only part about it that I dont like is the case badges, I know its personal preference but dang man. Otherwise awesome build, and also what do you use AutoCAD for because im using it for a class at my highschool

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

I tend to use it for mechanical means mainly or to help out a friend of myn here and there on his civil projects.

JoseyMG [1 Build] 1 point 14 months ago

Great build, HOWEVER, if it were me with a 5k price tag, i would have definitely gone socket 2011 it would have helped tremendously with autocad!

Just my 2 cents :)

Gooberdad [2 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

insane build. That car looks a really nice one.

Flobengogen [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

At the time that was the price of the parts when i purchased them compared to what they are now and when you commented.

Starlana [2 Builds] 0 points 14 months ago

You must not have had a girlfriend/wife spending up all your pay while you were away on deployment. Lulz.

She is a beauty.

Genarus [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 14 months ago

Well i am divorced and i have a daughter but i also just got a large sum from various other things. But most of that is gone now =P
