Cactus - $600 workstation/gaming rig

Description

Built about 5 months ago. RAM was free with motherboard, CPU was $20 off with motherboard combo (Thanks, Newegg!) Fans were $8 each at Fry's. Monitor was a CL steal. KB/Mouse/Speakers were picked up from Free Geek in PDX. Workstation first (runs multiple VMs, development work, etc.) gaming rig second (Civ V, FSX)

Very nice! About the CPU cooler, have you considered pull configuration? Apparently that cooler does slightly better in pull rather than push. http://www.overclock.net/t/1199135/hyper-212-testing-push-vs-pull-vs-push-pull-also-horizontal-vs-vertical-positioning

I found the biggest benefits from removing the top fan on the dvd side and moving it to the bottom. I think it was starving the cooler for air.

Why use the molex to PCI-E when you could just use the PCI-E cable that's connected to your PSU?

Why not get the Western Digital Caviar blue 1tb? Its only like 60 dollars then you wouldn't need the two smaller drives.
