This is my new gaming machine. I ordered the parts while I was in Afghanistan and had them sent to the house. When I got home I put the system together with my kids. So far ive had it running for 3 days and I've been very happy with the results. BF3 runs at a consistent 60FPS on Ultra with a few dips to 55 and spikes to 90.
Now, I know I have a Z77 motherboard and a non K CPU. The 3470 is a stock 3.2, but ive got it running at 4.0 which is not possible with a H77 board. I'm aware that if I really wanted to overclock I should have gotten a K CPU, however this was much cheaper at the time and allowed me to divert funds to the video card. Also, I don't over clock much, so, really this is about all the extra I would squeeze out of a CPU anyway.
The Kingston ram was throwing a minor incompatibility on part picker about voltage. I've had no issues with it and it is running at 1600.
I absolutely love this video card. I've been gaming on a 360M on an ASUS laptop since 2010 so it's kind of a big deal.
I did what I could with the cables, if you see something I could have done better let me know. I ran out of zip ties. I can take a picture of the back if you want and show you what i did back there, but i figured the main focus is on this side of the case.
I didn't get an optical drive because I have an external drive.
I'm using a AOC 21.5" 1080p IPS monitor. I couldn't find the exact model on here.
This case is great, it's a bit bigger than I thought it would be, but still within the size i wanted. Next time ill go micro I think. Eventually I may go for SLI with a new motherboard so I guess it's good to have this case if i go that route.
Putting this together with the kids was a ton of fun, and it was very satisfying to teach them things about the inner workings of a computer. My oldest son has decided that he no longer wants an Xbox One and instead wants to build a gaming PC...never been more proud. Hope you guys like the system.
