Description

Ladies and Gentlemen before I detail this build, I must state that my wife was responsible for the following: She picked the case, as well as found the deals on the keyboard and mouse. She was a great partner to build with!

Spent months researching a good budget conscious build...and then I saw them. Two MSI GTX 760's.....just sitting there, for only 161 each. I had had no desire previously for an SLI setup but.....come on! For $320 dollars I can beat out the 770 at 2gb, and a Titan at single screen gaming?! The build itself was the first my wife and I had ever done, and we took our time watching for cable management (which went awry at the end but was fixed). The only issues we had were the HD audio header whic is really poorly placed especially if you're doing an SLI setup, and the hard SLI bridge that the MOBO came with not being able to hook up to the cards correctly.

If you're wondering where my monitor is I am running on a basic hp 1080p panel from a year or two ago, and I am looking at the AOC 23 or 27 inch. I will be looking to OC my processor, and looking into overclocking the gpu's but frankly I don't know if that will add to the performance in a meaningful way.

Tell me what you think! I'll be getting some more pictures up soon!

I just realized I have the wrong mouse in, I got an alienware tactx mouse around the same price originally

Where did you find those cards? That's a steal!

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 5 points 6 months ago

Microcenter actually. I was not planning on doing my build for a month or so but I saw those two cards on sale and decided that was the day lol

PickItApart 2 points 6 months ago

seems almost too good to be true. Were they returned by a past customer or were they totally never touched other than at factory?

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 4 points 6 months ago

I believe these were returns but everything was still factory sealed, 30 day return plus manufacturer warranty. I've checked them on MSI kombuster, 3d mark, pass mark, and no issues so far.

damn lucky. Enjoy.

Do you live in the Georgia area? If so, those are very likely to be my cards! I had a pair just like those, but I returned them just yesterday because I bought a Dell U2711 monitor and they just couldn't keep up with the VRAM usage at that resolution. So, I went in and exchanged them for the only 2 Gigabyte 4GB editions that the store had, for 60 bucks more. Boy, I thought I was lucky, but I guess you're even luckier, huh? =P

Well, if they are my cards I do hope they serve you well. They were great cards, just not suited for what I wanted to do.

I got these a week or so ago, but yeah for high resolution gaming/multimonitor the 2gbs will definitely bottle neck it. For me I just want the high frames, sticking with 1080p and maybe getting a benq. Those two 4gb 760's must be awesome!

xshadowinxbc [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

Ah, well I was just seeing the comment dates and noticing that they were all within a few hours back so I was like "could it be?"

Yeah, the Gigabyte ones generally stay cooler and they work great.

It'd just be funny to see someone get super hyped up because they got my cards and posted a build on here. XD

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

I understand, just tell me when you're turning in those 4gb cards man lol

Norm101 [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

I'm insanely jealous! I even live near a MicroCenter and I've NEVER Seen a deal like that.

Silveretta21 1 point 6 months ago

Cracking build. Can't really fault it!

JoeyThePCNoob [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

could you uh post take some pictures of all of the wires plugged in and the case closed?

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

The second picture has a shot of the case buttoned up, did you mean with the one side panel off so you can see everything?

JoeyThePCNoob [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

yeah, thats what i was talking about. nice red cables btw.

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

I'll get those on soon, probably once I get the new SLI bridge, as well as some benchmark shots.

JoeyThePCNoob [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

ok thanks.

RyneSmith [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

I've been waiting for you to post this build haha

Awesome build for the money, 760s for that price is awesome. Personally I think the MSI board would have been a bit better option just to match the card/mobo manufacturer but this is solid

+1

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

Thanks for all of you help when I was in prebuild! Yeah I though about the MSI board but from the reviews I read this one was a bit better in terms of performance, although I would have liked some of the extra features!

RyneSmith [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

Ya I understand I'm just not a huge fan of Asrock haha

Congrats on the first build it's nice and this is going to serve you well for quite some time

How do you like the creative speakers? I have an $80 pair and I think it's the best set I've ever owned for the price.

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

Yeah I wanted cheap for now just because my monitor speakers suck lol, but they are surprisingly good for the price. I may upgrade later or just get a decent headset/ headphone mic combo.

RyneSmith [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

I'd go with the headset/mic combo option. I think the speakers will last you awhile unless you're just blaring them all the time haha. Creative makes some good speakers and I'm mad I'm just really finding that out, would've saved a bit of money over the years haha

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

Do Creative Labs make decent headsets? I've never really looked

RyneSmith [2 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

I couldn't tell you haha never looked. I'd look at some turtle beach

jekhari.lovett 1 point 6 months ago

Hate Intel and Nvidia (past problems) but this is a sweet clean build Kudos!!

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

I've run back and forth between manufacturers, my original build idea months back for under a grand was for the fx8350 and a 7950 sapphire but it changed when I read about single core in games andthe 700 series came out.

jekhari.lovett 2 points 6 months ago

maybe i need to read up on it

onlinefreak [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

A Ducky keyboard for 16$ O.o?

PickItApart 1 point 6 months ago

has to be a misprint. I bought the same one for $75 new.

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

Microcenter was doing inventory and was clearing stock. Evidently ducky isn't too popular up here.

PickItApart 1 point 6 months ago

crazy steal. I'd be going nuts if I got that for that price. Lucky man.

YourLocalPCNoob 1 point 6 months ago

dang where did u get those 760s from?

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

Microcenter, it was kind of madhouse when I went. People caught on that they were getting rid of stuff before inventory, we had to guard our cart because ppl were just waiting for us to leave it alone lol.

YourLocalPCNoob 1 point 6 months ago

does microcenter show these deals online? because i dont wann have to drive 40 or so miles to find out that i can find a better deal elsewhere?

RedLaser 1 point 6 months ago

The only thing that I can say that I didn't find sexy is that brown PCB on the motherboard.

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

agreed, although in real life oddly enough its more purple, for some reason it looks more brown in shots with the flash

Mattkx4 1 point 6 months ago

There's been quite a few builds lately with the R4 I only advise against it because there is not much room up top for a dual radiator. You know because the rad would kind've overlap the MOBO

AidensCalling36 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 6 months ago

I'm going to stick with aircooling for this build, I thought about that before purchasing. What cases would you recommend for water cooling? I might do one later on for myself or a friend.

Mattkx4 1 point 6 months ago

Depends in your budget if you're going to go all out and custom open water cooling loops and rads everywhere then I would go with the Corsair 800 or 900d. If not and your not going with rads everywhere just a closed loop double rad then I would go with Corsair R cases or NZXT cases.
