Tha Battlerig

Description

This is my current battlerig. I got what wanted. Money wasn’t really an issue. However, once I saw a good deal, I didn’t hesitate to take advantage of it.

Case: I love corsair and would never go to anyone else. At first I was planning on doing a normal ATX system, but ever since I saw this case and really liked the size, the looks, and the airflow on it, I just had to get it. So I did.

CPU: There was a great deal of the 4770K at Microcenter and took the advantage of the deal and bought it. I knew that the hyper-threads would not make my gameplay any better bought knew that I could use it for livestreaming which I am hoping to do and that since I do video editing, it would also benefit from those hyper-threading.

Motherboard: Wanted the Maximus VI Gene but I really liked the Gryphon because of the thermal armor. And a friend of mine told me that since I’m doing a red build I could paint the armor red which would have been a whole lot better. And plus, when ever you buy a CPU at Microcenter you get $40 off of the motherboard so I got this motherboard at a good deal as well.

RAM: Wanted to go with Corsair because of the name brand and I liked there RAM, however, they are ridiculously expensive so I went with a cheaper alternative and still got good looking red RAM.

GPU: After 3 months I finally settled with a GTX 770. Originally I wanted a R9 280x but the bitcoin mining craze had started which forced me to look into NVIDIA. So I settled with the Titan cooler design and found one on eBay and won the auction. It was in new condition and had never been used. It was even still in the static wrap too.

PSU: I went with Corsair because Corsair. Corsair makes wonderful stuff including PSUs. I went with the RM650 because I wanted a cheap fully modular power supply. I wanted the AX but at the time there prices were a little to high and for some reason I was really excited to get this build done and soon.

Hard Drives: I went with an ADATA SSD because there was a really good deal on it. I went with a 1TB Black because it will hold all of my games and I just wanted the Black. Once you go Black you never go back.

CPU Cooler: I wanted to go water-cooling for looks and temps. I like the H60 and it was cheaper the H100i. It looks cool, is SUPER QUIET, and I get wonderful temps.

Monitor: I had this monitor before I even thought about building a PC. I knew I was going to eventually so got it for my laptop for college because I like working on a bigger screen. I wanted 1080p and this monitor is absolutely perfect! The only problem with is that there is this one dead pixel is the very left of the screen. It is completely unnoticeable but pops out like no tomorrow ever time I do word or am browsing on PCpartpicker.

Keyboard: I got this keyboard because a friend recommended it for me and since I had played a lot of Minecraft at the time, the command keys would benefit me. Now I’m hoping that it would kind of break because now I want a mechanical keyboard because I no longer play Minecraft.

Future updates: In the future I will include the Items! Red Corsair sleeved cables, and an aftermarket dust filter to put on top of my case as well as the NZXT HUE lights to go on the inside of my case. Mods to come soon as well.

Very nice and neat! That baby will last you years (expecially that 4770K)

Remember, It can be any color you want it to be, as long as it's black! :P

This is almost the same build I was getting right down to the monitor

Great build!

Only thing is you didn't need the thermal compound, and i hope you didn't use it.

srs922 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 2 months ago

I did actually. I was getting horrible temps with the pre applied paste that came with the cooler. Even with the new thermal paste, I still don't get very good temps. I'm open to any suggestions if you have any

casebuilder [1 Build] 1 point 22 days ago

what are said horrible temps?

srs922 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 22 days ago

temps as far as 102C. But that was when it was overclocked at 4.5Ghz.

casebuilder [1 Build] 1 point 22 days ago

thats pretty high, but then again the h60 is a small rad, try a push/push fan configuration

Awesome build!

Also, I have the same Corsair H60 as you, ...so try mounting the radiator with the hoses coming from the bottom, not the top. In the manual for it, Corsair says that is the optimal way for the cooling of the cpu.

Looks good!

similar to my next build too

98C is still too hot for that CPU with that cooler. Did you mount the cooler properly?

srs922 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 23 days ago

Oh sorry I forgot to change it. It got that hot when at full load when it was over clocked to 4.5. When I got the graphics card for my system I had to under clock it because it kept crashing. I haven't ran a stress bench test for it yet. But yes I do agree that 98 is way hot for the cooler. There is no other way to mount it to get better temps. I don't know if getting another cooler like the H80i will do any better.

linsyschopman [1 Build] 1 point 23 days ago

The H80i won't do much better. for a 4.5Ghz overclock it's not too bad to be honest. What do you mean you had to underlock the GPU?

srs922 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 23 days ago

No I had to underclock the CPU. They GPU stays the same.

Looks great but some red sleeved cables would make this build really shine!

srs922 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 23 days ago

I so desperately want the corsair red sleeves but they are just so pricy. Know any ways to get them for cheap? I prefer full length because I hate the black cables as they are really hard and hard to bend.

juheebus [1 Build] 1 point 22 days ago

I purchased the white corsair sleeved cables for my rm750 and i would honestly just sleeve my own. I only got them because they were on sale for $40 with the 24pin and a **** ton of extra cables.

Great Build! Nice and clean.

CarterBond [1 Build] 1 point 22 days ago

I have a air cooler and my idle is like 11-15. I have a different CPU so maybe thats why.

karijuana 1 point 21 days ago

Love it! Just hate how optical drives can make the Obsidian cases a little less sleek, nothing on your part though! :D

nice looking very inexpensive

Really wish I would have known about this case before I did my build. I love my R4 but I think I would just love the size factor of this case. R4 is just huge for a mid sized case. Awesome build!
