Description

atm I'm just using this pc for college work and watching YouTube videos, but I'm waiting till the new year and I will be gaming hopfully eyeing up the R9 280x toxic just waiting for stock to become available (what the hell is going on with the prices of this card went from £250 to £300).

I bought a "gaming pc" of this guy on eBay (big mistake) and got stuck with a crap gpu ( it looks like the one in the parts list but it's made by vtx), psu, ram(not sure if its the same ran as in parts list but looks similar and same speed, and case. the processor is OK but not outstanding, it boots the pc in less than 30 seconds of a mechanical hhd, slowed down after a year used to be closer to 19-20 seconds (I know right)

took my time putting everything into my new case. grabbed a really good bargain with the cooler and psu, cooler although enormous was really easy to install, the eight pin was being stubborn but I hadn't tried bending the cable before installing.

psu looks really nice, up close you can see the quality of the paint isn't amazing but that's not visible at all from where I sit in my chair and the cables aren't that flexible but the hole in the psu for the cables is nicely has U-channel to protect the cables.

EDIT- I suspect the prices aren't what I or the guy of eBay paid for these parts-EDIT

Radeon GPU prices of the r9 280x,290, and 290x are higher right now for a few reasons. AMD is not getting good yields (not bad but not good). Litecoin has taken off, the price of LTC went up. You can't us an ASIC for LTC mining so people buy high end Radeon cards and mine. It is profitable enough for LTC miners to buy those high end GPU's at 100+ dollars extra because they are making their money back quick with LTC. It also doesn't help that Nvidia GPU's couldn't mine cryptocurrency even if their price premium depended on it. In my opinion I hope all this cryptocurrency mining goes away/ currency's like LTC get something like ASICs.

godshawk 2 points 7 months ago

People aren't gonna stop with cryptocurrencies, and (AFAIK) it's not possible to make LTC ASICs. I could be wrong though.

SethMatrix 3 points 7 months ago

Your right you can't make LTC ASICs. But it would be nice. Something like them that is.

That awkward moment when the case is the most expensive part of the build

hawktalk2013 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

well coming from a cheap £15 case with 80mm fans to this case with 200mm fans it is far quieter in comparison.

Why 16gb of ram in this budget

Pownderosa 1 point 7 months ago

I did some what question this like why not spend 50 bucks less on ram and just get the 8350 but its his choice on how he wants to build it.

Egnelite 1 point 7 months ago

Why did you spend so much money on the case ?

Pownderosa 3 points 7 months ago

Probably to future proof it, by the looks of this post he looks like he is going to be upgrading in the future.

you hit the nail on the my friend, in that year I have been saving up money from my Saturday job, and when I was hunting around for a new case the features I was looking for,are in this price point, there is so much room in this case its remarkable. after the gpu I might even experiment with custom water cooling loop.

I want to know why you didn't just buy a 900d lol jk. Honestly, despite some personal preference issues. This is a good build for around $700 in my opinion. The case issue is a mute point, ill say that once and for all... Not everyone can stare at cheap piece of junk everyday, some of us do like the style of a case and will spend a little more to have a good looking corsair 600T or something in the room. I personally got vetoed doing my build bc all my ideas weren't white enough lol

hawktalk2013 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

" Not everyone can stare at cheap piece of junk everyday" exactly my point. I would take this case over the 900d any day in my opinion its looks much better the silver edition is really nice and when I building in it I cant see any hand prints
thanks for the post

SgtTherin [1 Build] 2 points 7 months ago

Yea lol the 600T is a piece of room-candy lol the 900D comment just made out of jest btw. I have a 900D enthusiast project I'm working on. I won't be done until I replace the two 7970s and add a waterloop among a few other things. But I'm rambling... again nice build m8

Would this pc run mosts games?

hawktalk2013 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

I'm afraid not with this gpu. but every thing else paired with good gpu will be fine and most probable max out a few games.

Why not Windows 8?

hawktalk2013 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

never try spluttering and typing its not good for you lol jk. when my pre built system arrived there was so many things wrong with win 8 (at that time the guy emailed me and said that win 7 wasn't included)that I went and bought windows 7 also both my college and secondary school were using win 7,so it made a wiser decision.

Not to be harsh, but this build kind of sucks. The CPU is bulldozer, and you could have gotten a 6300 for less. The cooler is great, but for this budget it isn't Should have gotten 8GB ram instead of 16. Super why not a a powercolor 7790 for 89.99 150 DOLLARS FOR A 730 DOLLAR CASE? Other than the CPU, CPU cooler, ram, GPU, and case, you did great.

Ouch... I would be angry if you said that to me. I would never say that in front of someone. Though it's kinda true...

he obviously didn't read my story sdcrafter "I HAD NO SAY HOW MY PC WAS BUILT" yes the guy I bought it from did list the specs he didn't though in much detail and a year ago I wasn't so into computers. I didn't even know of this forum. and did you read this at the top of the comment section? "When commenting on a completed build please keep your feedback polite and constructive, particularly if commenting on part choices and possible alternatives."

SgtTherin [1 Build] 3 points 7 months ago

Haters gonna hate. Youve got yourself a continuing project but a good start. Hopefully, building this computer or even swapping a few parts like you did has provided you with a healthy hobby. This site is great for many reasons, my favorite is the dedicated forums that anyone can post a build list and wait for feedback from experienced builders in order to make the best decisions... and learn too. Learning is always fun. If someone doesn't agree with the list, read the backstory... thats why its there. Dont be foolishly arrogant and disrespectful.

mattataki [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

+1 all that is true

mattataki [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Why are you replying to me? Was I the one that offended you? I was just trying to make Sdcrafter that what he said wasn't full wrong but was certainly irrespectful. Though I saw much more horrible builds. This one is not bad because the parts "fits" together at least. CPU: well a very solid one... The NH-D14 is one of my faves. For the mobo well there isn't much AM3+ that I like preferably. Ram low speed but I don't care looks horrible but the CPU cooler covers the modules up so not bad, 16GB??? why spend so much on so many ram? Do you do any graphical art or memory intensive apps? You could of saved money there or throw it somewhere else unless you had no choice for 16gb. HDD well it's a 1TB HDD, probably the standard size these days. Not a fan of the GPU's brand. The case I am sorry but I personally don't like the aesthetic but others might say it's great looking. I can't comment on OS and DVD drive. PSU looks great idk why it's not in the list though. I would rather see that PSU in a white case or in one of Fractal's black and white themed case.

I mean if you got all this at a great deal well I'm happy to hear that it wasn't bad

hawktalk2013 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

sorry mate I didn't mean you it was intended for "sdcrafter". "16gb???" well this wasn't my decision, I would have put in some nice low profile ram 1600mHz but the guy I bought it of did't specify the ram speed in his original advert. I agree on the mobbo but to get something that looks nice and performs well normally cost more than my case does, but hey its a possible upgrade. I don't know why I didn't put the psu in list

Sdcrafter 1 point 7 months ago

Ah sorry, misread description.
