First Build Ever - Blue/Black

Description

Built my first ever PC about a month ago. Finally posting pictures. I did a little PC gaming as a kid, but nothing ever on a high-end machine. I sold my Macbook Pro and decided to give it a try. I am happy with my build. I spent a lot of time on cable management, but everything took about 4 hours to build and booted up first try without an issue. Also, since i have finished my build I kind of wished I went for a bit higher-end GPU. Luckily for me EVGA has a program called "Step-up" where within 90 days you can turn in your card for another and all you have to do is pay the difference according to the price on EVGA's website, plus shipping. So, I am currently in queue for a Gtx 760. Can't wait to get it and try it out. I will post another picture once the swap is done.

Just want to thank everyone behind PcPartPicker. This site definitely helped me out a ton. I probably wouldn't have tackled this myself if it wasn't for this site.

Also want to thank everyone on the forums for their healthy input.

-Colin

Blue/Black combo FTW!

Overall, a very nice build. I was about to ask about the 660 and not getting the 760, but I see you already covered that in the description. The only thing I dislike is that keyboard. The flat look is a no to me. Can't stand it.

+1

This is beautiful. Especially a first build. Other first-times should use this as an example of how to manage the interiors of their cases. Really great job! Good luck with the step-up program. :)

The OCZ ModXStream is a Tier 3 PSU:

"Tier 3 power supplies fully meet all ATX requirements for power output quality, but don't have as good of power output quality as above tiers. No reason to replace one if you have one, and they're still good choices for most systems."

Those tiers that often used are pretty old and really need to be updated... But hardwaresecrets did review it.

Even better. :) I hadn't checked the date of publication on the Tier list and you are correct that are dated. As it so happens though, this PSU is still a good choice, perhaps even an excellent one now.

They don't match the motherboard perfectly but it still looks pretty good I think!

My favorite parts of your build are the case (I have Titanium grey), the cabling, and for going with EVGA. Super clean.

Nice job!

Very pretty, I really like it when people put time, effort, and money into making things look pretty, those cables look excellent!

What brand of cable extensions are those?

Erikus [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Did you take pictures with a Gopro? And you've got a solid build there.

Colinislegend [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

No, it's actually this wide angle lens I bought off of eBay that clips onto my iphone. It's pretty sweet. And thank you!

I know in the description it said you were replacing the GPU, but have you used that 660 enough to give some feedback on it? I may be going with that GPU and upgrading (maybe to a 760 also) later on, but I wanna make sure it's worth buying because the price seems to be rising slowly at the moment.

Man, this build is SUPER close the the one I'm currently ordering parts for. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/bradkerwood/saved/4pzO is the link to mine.

How you liking it overall? Opinions on the MoBo and CPU?
