Red Tempest

Description

Well, to start off, this is my first build coming off from a 360 and an all-in-one computer. I removed all the grills and just plasti-dipped all of them red to tie in with the red theme. Turned out way better than I thought. And as for the red zip ties, drunk purchase, and decided to use them since I had them. Oh well.

I've spent the last 6-8 months reading through various subreddits, studying, comparing, researching, etc etc, and finally came to this build, and so far I'm happy with it!

As you've probably noticed by now, the graphics card isn't in yet, and I will update when I get it ordered and in!

I'm excited to break off into the PC gaming world, steam has been amazing with sales and even with just onboard graphics this is leaps and bounds over what I'm used to.

And don't worry I plan on moving up to a bigger and better monitor and keeping the LG 22" as an extra side monitor, don't know what I'm gonna go with yet, probably 144hz or a 1440p. Maybe you guys have some suggestions?

Anyway, hope you guys like it and will update when the lightning is in!

Loving the NZXT Case. Me being an NZXT fanboy, I love anything they put out. I don't see anything really wrong with the build as a whole, or at all for that matter. Solid build. +1

Monitor advice: I'm not a pro at buying Monitors, but I have an Asus 24" and a LG 22". Both are great, but only go to 1080p (First world problems). But if I had enough to get a new one, I'd easily buy a BenQ 27" IPS or a High-end Asus 27" IPS. I know that Amazon has good after-Christmas deals now on a BenQ 24", 1080P, 144Hz, 1ms for $299. :)

Asus makes a QE monitor that is 24in, 1080p, 144Hz, 1ms that i got for $270 at the time. Picked up three of them.

Thanks, yeah I'll have to look that up, that's a pretty damn good price. I'm trying to resist spending over $500 dollars on one, but, I may be swayed when time to buy comes around haha.

Wow, that looks very well-done. I love the effort put in to keep with a central theme. +1

Thanks, yeah a lot of time and patience went into looking at a loooottttt of motherboards, fans, lights, etc to make this thing right. I appreciate the appreciation!

It's pretty... love the NZXT case. Was thinking about getting it myself, but I got the white source 210 for Christmas. Oh well, another time will come :P

Thanks! Yeah I went back and forth between the cases, all of them are awesome. But I liked the front fan set up on this, and quite honestly they're getting hard to come by, I guess I got lucky and got one of the last ones on Newegg.

NZXT really does make beautiful cases. The Tempest 410 does indeed have a great front fan setup, it looks so cool with the mesh design IMO. Oh, nice computer you have inside of it too :)

Beautiful build and the name is like the icing! +1

One question however, Those sleeved cables/sleeved extensions, what brand are they and where did you get them? I'm looking to finished up my surprise build for my brother with a little eye candy!

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

They're actually NZXT cables. Just get on Amazon and search for NZXT extensions and they should come up, there's a few colors to choose from, and they're pretty damn cheap. Happy hunting!

Welcome the the pcmasterrace! Make sure to get your free copy of L4D2 :)

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 3 points 8 months ago

Thanks! Already got a copy of it though :/ I got it in a bundle back for cheap during one of the steam sales with the first L4D so it's ok. Praise GabeN!

The lightning is gonna throw off your scheme :(.

I know....I was thinking about possibly taking off the shroud with the led, tape it off, and paint the yellow red, not mess with the fan though since you won't really be able to see it.

Very awesome and original with the grills! How do you like the wifi adapter?

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks! I wanted to do a little custom look to make it mine. So far the adapter has been awesome. I don't do anything complicated on it, and I have very little difference when running speed tests compared to wired, even when running it about 30 feet from the router. That may be in part to the modem/router combo I'm running, but it does great.

What games are you playing right now? I'm curious, how does the igpu perform?

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Right now I'm just playing indies and some Borderlands 2, got it turned down to the medium range and it does just fine. I have it overclocked just through the motherboard to 4.0Ghz and it plays pretty smooth. I don't have a FPS figure cause I'm waiting on the GPU before I dwell into that.

It's a premature build I know.....it's not in yet but am planning on doing a huge update album when it does go in, stay tuned!

-machete- [1 Build] -1 points 8 months ago

Too many fans and that gaming motherboard doesn't improve performance.

welshdiesel 2 points 8 months ago

Too many fans?!....just stop while your ahead

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks for replying first, he must have missed the part where a 780 Lightning is going in it, not to mention most likely a second one is going in it down the road.

welshdiesel 2 points 8 months ago

Actually if you read the builds logs dating back awhile hes always nitpicking everyone elses build. O and b.t.w love the build. Love the price. I really enjoy the small paint addition. Its the settle things that make a build great like this.

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that. I loved putting this together, I'd really like to organize building people PC's on the side, just the liability and possibility of DOA of all the electrical components make me scared.

As for the monitor delima this is my opinion - the difference between 60 refresh and 144 is noticable yes but not a crazy amount. Difference between 1080p and 1440 or 1600 will be definantly noticable. And with 4k resolution now coming out id wager those 1440 and 1600 will shave a $100 or 2 off the price. So if it was me and my money id wait a few months and get one. Plus with g-sync coming out it will be interesting to see if its as big as a game changer there making it out to be. If so your 780 will be looking for at least a 1440 g-synced monitor to sretch her legs on. But again just my opinion.

lB5S4l [Submitter] [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I've also read on some sites that you can overclock some 1440p monitors, so I'm probably just gonna go that route.
