Description

I named this build in tribute to my family's dead pet hamster named Chinchu

This build is a gaming and virtual machine focused. I mostly game on it and my dad does various IT work on it too, while the rest of the family uses it for general use.

  • CPU + cooler: I might overclock this build with a H80i in the future but im fine with what it is now.

  • MOBO: I got this because I can easily hackintosh the build in the future.

  • RAM: I got 16GB RAM because the RAM was cheap and had a way better than price to GB ratio than 8GB ram so I decided to max the RAM.

  • Storage: In hind sight I wish gotten the 250GB model so I wouldn't need another HDD for storage

  • VGA: the best GTX for my money for 1080p 60hz max settings gaming

  • case: really small mITX case with no compromise for me

  • PSU: pretty good modular PSU, really nice handle

  • ODD: cheap, contains most features

  • monitor: 60hz 1ms 1080p 24" monitor, sadly not IPS

  • headphones: good headphones, comfortable, have all connectors for max comparability, but much too long cables

  • mouse: cheap gaming mouse

  • keyboard: planning to buy the FUNC KB-460

Total Price of Build: $1150 (excluding taxes and reused/planned parts) PS all the parts were bought at microcenter

You had mentioned using virtual machines on it? If so, the biggest issue I see is having a 'k' series chipset as VT-D is not available on it. Otherwise, a pretty standard build for a potential hackintosh (I have the same motherboard for the same reason).

4670k was much cheaper than 4670 so I got that

Glad I read your comment! I am building a similar system for light gaming, but primarily working with KVM for virtualization. I was planning on using the i7 4770K but it sounds like the straight 4770 is what I need. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bazz/saved/4uIX.

I love that headset. I've had mine since the day they launched. It's one of the few headsets you can wear in public and it won't look odd.

I was also considering FUNC's headset as it has a removable mic

That's also a good one. The main reason I went with the Skullcandys is that I'd had great experience with them in the past. from the Skullcrushers to those and now my Crushers. Skullcandy is the brand for me. I also have my SLYR's in white btw.

Is there any space left inside for the extra 3.5" HDD? how is the cable mangment ?

masrawy_remix 1 point 7 months ago

what about the H80i ? Iknow it will fit but doesnt it take the HDD place ?

kickash32 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

There is easily enough space for a 3.5" ODD but I didn't put one in so I used one less cable + I already had a 2.5" used HDD. the H80i will definitely fit in there too as you can see in other builds.

Cable management meanwhile is extremely hard but it can be done with enough patience and small hands

Nice Build, Could have done a bit better on the cable management but good choice on the parts.

I tried but it was very hard

try to use zip ties, you can always remove them in the future being careful

SwizzyMan [2 Builds] 1 point 7 months ago

Generally anything with "Beast" in the title gets unnecessary downvotes.
