NZXT H630 Build / i7-3960X / 3-way GTX Titan

Description

For our latest build video, we wanted to go a tad higher end.

Yes, I realize it is impractical. I realize an i7 is more than necessary for gaming. Or 32GB of RAM for that matter. Running at 2133...

Practicality was thrown out the window. Budget too.

An Intel Core i7-3960X paired with 3-way SLI GTX Titans provide an absurd amount of power for gaming and other tasks. For the case, NZXT kindly provided the new H630, which I can honestly say was a joy to work with.

Sploosh...

a_slow_descent 14 points 11 months ago

does running this site really give you that much money to throw away on a super computer like this? I mean, it is absolutely incredible but why?

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 20 points 11 months ago

We don't actually intend to keep it put together, or use it as a daily driver. We're ramping up benchmarking again and hope to add in some new content related to performance analysis. Hopefully as we start rolling that out, it'll begin to make sense.

SparkyOnPC 4 points 7 months ago

Hey Phillip, I have a question about the website.. for the mother board logo at the top what motherboard is that?

Enlyten [1 Build] 2 points 7 months ago

Looks to be either the Gigabyte Z87-OC or Gigabyte Z87-OC Force

SparkyOnPC 2 points 7 months ago

it looks like it has armor on it. lol

Xilent_killerz3 -2 points 6 months ago

Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 ATX LGA2011

SparkyOnPC 1 point 6 months ago

thats the one he is using in the build.. >.>

Maroon 2 points 5 months ago

Nope, the motherboard icon is actually an Asus Maximus VI Formula. You can identify it by its armor, and the "Crosschill" near the CPU socket

SparkyOnPC 2 points 5 months ago

But the in the picture its orange not red

Maroon 2 points 5 months ago

Think about it, they wouldn't want to ruin the color scheme of black and orange in the icons with red! Plus, the chipset (if you read carefully) has "ASUS" written into it. Look at the Formula MOBO, and compare it. The Crosschill is very unique looking, and this icon fits tthe description.

Psybadek [2 Builds] 1 point 4 months ago

So how would you get a Gigabyte SLI bridge from an Asus board?

Maroon 1 point 4 months ago

The build's MOBO is a Gigabyte, but the icons on top is probably the Asus Formula Board

Psybadek [2 Builds] 1 point 4 months ago

It's a gigabyte board, Formula boards are all red. Also

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128562

That's what's in this build. Looks exactly like the pictures from the top heatsink to the words on the board.

Maroon 1 point 4 months ago

Yes, it's a Gigabyte board. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BUILD. I'm talking about the icon menus in the top. And they might have changed the colors from red to yellow.

TheRealCheekyGit 8 points 11 months ago

It would be epic to see this build totally water-cooled. (:-D)

But it does pretty sweet already. That CM is TIGHT!!!

Awesome!! +1

SrgtMacfly [1 Build] 6 points 11 months ago

O_O I guess I will keep dreaming lol

Sabotage 6 points 11 months ago

I want to see those monitors!

mattataki [1 Build] 3 points 10 months ago

I saw a video of PCPP building it! The monitors were installed already though they were far apart.

sethi 6 points 8 months ago

can it play 8 bit mario?

LeetLawrence 4 points 11 months ago

Hey Philip do you guys get sponsored by any companies? Or is this PC all from your wallet? I'd really like to know :)

on_droid [1 Build] 3 points 11 months ago

Why no custom loop?

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 6 points 11 months ago

We swap hardware quite a bit - for builds, benchmarking, etc. Because of that, a custom loop would have been highly impractical.

on_droid [1 Build] 2 points 11 months ago

Makes sense. Did you give any thought to a test bench?

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 3 points 11 months ago

We do have a test bench setup with a few open-frame cases. Those aren't nearly as exciting for build videos though. :)

xbeastguyx 2 points 11 months ago

You should've used the Swiftech h220, other than that, this is a beast! I wish I could afford that!

gioforever 1 point 6 months ago

Sorry if i am bothering you with this question, but why did you choose this
Motherboard? I am deeply interested. thanks in advance.

mattataki [1 Build] 3 points 10 months ago

I just wanted to know if builds like this were made. I guess it's easier to find when you look out for pc companies. I like to see people just saying BYE BYE BUDGET! And just Do as they wish, building a pc without doing any sacrifices or compromises. I know you are modifying that pc, doing benchmarks and all but do you even play around with it? Do some crazy game loads with it having fun, not benchmarking or this is just a boring overkill computer? And I would also like to know do you write down the benchmarks? I am very curious on how performant that rig is. I am also disappointed to see you haven't entered any temps yet. Will you OverClock? If so, post some benchmarks of that and temps readings, I am really curious about that. Final word, I am no jealous of that build, I am jealous of your job, I wish I could do such thing. Ok for real, this is my final words: Site=Awesome, MCPP=awesome, MCPP community=awesome. I really got addicted to this kind of stuff.

Chazzy [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

its not hard to that job...

mattataki [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Probably, but getting started and succeeding is probably the biggest part of the challenge.

jru732 2 points 11 months ago

Did you and Ryan get that 8pin extension for that 8350 build, Philip?

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 5 points 11 months ago

We did!

manirelli [Staff] [1 Build] 4 points 11 months ago

Yep! Check the blog post about the R4. We added the images in there and the completed cable management.

onyxv 2 points 11 months ago

What type of cable is used in this build? I'm definitely considering getting something like it.

manirelli [Staff] [1 Build] 4 points 11 months ago

Custom cables from reddit user Jappetto

ScottMalkomson [2 Builds] 2 points 4 months ago

Hey, did you sleeve those cables yourself?

jakehkills 2 points 4 months ago

Who made your cables and do they ship to the uk

kenh536 [2 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

I see you used the Sentry Mix 2 fan controller. Would you recommend it? I have heard bad things about them but I love the looks of it vs other controllers. Oh also, EPIC BUILD AND EPIC SITE! =)

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 3 points 11 months ago

Glad you like the site! So far I haven't had any issues with the Sentry Mix 2. It seems to be working great, but to be honest I haven't used it extensively yet.

ESPM400 [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

Wow... This is just insane. Will be interested in seeing the benchmarks when they come out.

ardechey 1 point 11 months ago

Those sticks of ram look amazing

construction [3 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

mines better ;)

MichaeL925280 1 point 11 months ago

one way to describe that cable management is ultimate!!! The build is at atomic level if everything was water cooled CPU, GPU's & RAM that would be nuclear.

iAmNicklezz 1 point 11 months ago

The beauty...

vlad007 [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

Epic, epic build here!

BoltActionWaffle [2 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

I wonder how much cheaper this will be a year later. :/

slykrysis [3 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

Probably $1-2k cheaper, the RAM, GFX, and CPU will be the first to depreciate.

asnail 1 point 11 months ago

incredible spec... o_O

slykrysis [3 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

I couldn't care less about the hardware, but I REALLY want to upgrade my system to sleeved cables. =D

AH__Banana [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

I love halloween....

xolot1 [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

GA-GA-GAWD-LIKE!!

ReDnAx1991 [6 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

So sexy ! Amazing build, I envy you!

xSWATxBadkid [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

Beautiful... that's the only word that can describe it.

JPCRacing24 [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

I will be building a computer soon and would love to know how to get color matching cables for it. Does anyone know how to go about getting that?

butch10x [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

sexy!

elricky 1 point 11 months ago

620 dollar on ram :x

PacificNic [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

It looks great! What kind of temps are you getting with the Kraken? I am assuming that you've overclocked

Hobbes1995 1 point 11 months ago

Well ****.

tanvu1993 [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

9 grands :o

Mattkx4 1 point 10 months ago

I personally would have made the Color Scheme Black and Green. The Titans really throw off the color scheme

shoaibx3 1 point 10 months ago

dammnnnn $9,000!!!!

7ongue7wisted 1 point 10 months ago

If only I had nine and a half thousand dollars...

triniamit 1 point 10 months ago

:')

Sn0w-Q 1 point 9 months ago

i would buy a new car :D but i like this

ibivins9 1 point 9 months ago

Why use 5400 RPM Drives?? With such a small overall SSD RAID size, it only makes sense for you to use AT LEAST 7200 RPM drives, particularly when your dealing with a RAID size of 6 TB. Considering everything else in this build meets/exceeds my personal benchmark, I am quite confused as to the use of 5400 RPM drives. If you are going to spend so much cash on a PC, why NOT at least include faster HDDs so as to make everything balanced?

daes79 [3 Builds] 1 point 9 months ago

What are the temps?

[comment deleted by staff]

KingOfKhazmidan 1 point 9 months ago

Dat cable management.

Starlana [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

Uh, you don't play fair, do you? teehee

ArrKayCee [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

I love this build but I can hear those Titans gasping for air.

ablo5230 1 point 8 months ago

Is that the System Build Icon

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago

It is. :)

frankank [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

It most be very noisy! ;) Such the most beautiful build I've seen!!

BWO_Kilroy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

That is an OBSCENE amount of money, but mother of gaming that is a beautiful looking build. Absolutely gorgeous. I would give my left kidney for a build that good.

Camboy05 1 point 7 months ago

Can you come do my wires?

ilikepie51015 1 point 7 months ago

It may be easier to install windows with an optical drive... (Don't think i'm saying its a bad PC, Its insanely powerful)

thefishkid1 [2 Builds] 1 point 7 months ago

Only three Titan's? No custom loop? Peasants...

groww4441 1 point 7 months ago

Explain to me how well it runs Mine-craft. I only get about 10 FPS.

joejccva71 1 point 6 months ago

Sorry, I'd rather put a down payment on a new CAR than to pay $10,000 for a rig. I also notice how you didn't post your temps which is rather interesting.

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

Check the front page of the site - we just ran a benchmark on the build with full temp info and even a thermal camera recording it.

PCGamerGuy86 1 point 5 months ago

Would anyone or the OP builder tell me the fan intake and outtake setup please?

I am doing a new custom build with more and proper fan use/placement, so I am very interested.

Many Thanks :)

bladimirgratini 1 point 5 months ago

Do you have any advice on getting the cougar fans in that case because it is telling me that the fans are not compatible with the case

philip [Staff,Submitter] [7 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

It shouldn't say they're not compatible, but rather we haven't implemented case fan compatibility yet (so it can't be verified).

bladimirgratini 1 point 5 months ago

Ok thank you so much. You guys haven't done any htpc built I am a big fan of them would love to see one in the near future. I love this website. You guys are doing a great thing here.I have recommended it to a big group of my friends that I grew up with we are a circle of nerds and this website has just been a big part of our life.

CinoSRelliK 1 point 5 months ago

No wonder it's ten thousand dollars... You have almost 5k in monitors!

Wish I had money >:(

IloveSprite123 1 point 5 months ago

Yo, That cable management tho! +1

Gooberdad [2 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

Makes me a little sad to think that this pc wont be used as it is built, but it is a very nice build. This one has convinced me that to sli you really should water cool the graphics cards as well. There just isn't enough space between the cards for airflow, and good cooling.

thomasf94 [2 Builds] 1 point 4 months ago

0_0 Sexy.

jakehkills 1 point 4 months ago

Great build im thinking of an orange theme two

xNightCaster 1 point 2 months ago

Unique color scheme, amazing cable management,I'd give you +2 if I could...

Moon_Rock 1 point 2 months ago

you spent to much money, the 6gb 780 is the same as the titan gpu and all

Kannoss 1 point 1 month ago

But the real question...Can it run minesweeper?

D33structo 1 point 2 days ago

Do you get bottlenecks w the 6 core w 3 TITANS?

Cardinal7477 [1 Build] 1 point 1 day ago

This is a really (ridiculous) beautiful build! Nice work. With the orange/black cables, did you sleeve them yourself? Or were they purchased as is??

And with the Sentry Mix 2 Fan Controller, do all of your fans plug into that? Do you not plug any into the MOBO? On my build, I only have the Kraken plugged into the MOBO CPU_FAN connector. All others are powered on a fan board by the PSU directly. Flat chat 24/7!
