I've been wanting to build a new pc for a while. Black Friday/Cyber Monday came and I pulled the trigger (saved 400-500 bucks too!).
My goal here is to get 100+ fps on a 1440p monitor overclocked to 100+hz while playing BF4 with ultra settings. I still need to tweak and overclock but I have my fingers crossed.
CASE: Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition. I've wanted this case since it came out. I know it's not everyone's cup-o-tea but I love it. Plenty of room, aesthetically pleasing, good cable management (I know I still need to improve mine). The only cons I can think of are that it is pretty heavy and the window is pretty small.
MOBO: Asus Maximus VI Formula. It's been a while since I built my last pc and I have to say I am really impressed with the new (new to me) Asus boards. Both the design and the bios are really impressive.
CPU: i7 4770k. I know I could've gone with an i5 since I'm only gaming but where's the fun in that? Cooled by a Corsair H100i.
RAM: G.Skill Trident X 2400 x16GB. People have had mixed results using these with Haswell but I was seeing ddr3 1600 sticks at higher prices. I'll underclock/undervolt if needed when I start overclocking the CPU.
STORAGE (boot / games): 512GB Samsung 840 Pro. Can't go wrong with these drives. I went with the 512 because I have a 256GB SSD in my laptop and it filled up pretty fast. Games are getting bigger and the higher capacity drives seem to get better benchmarks.
STORAGE (other): 2x 4TB WD Black HDDs. I put these in a Raid-0 array. I get about 7.3TB usable space. This will be for 1080p movies and shows mostly. I'd buy two more and go Raid-10 if I didn't already break the bank.
GPUs: Dual-SLI EVGA 780 Classifieds. These come pre-overclocked faster than stock Titans. I have high hopes for them. I will definitely OC them as high as I can go without water cooling. Backplates are in the mail.
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1000W 80+Gold. The price was right and hopefully I can use it on my next build. Fully modular with no coil whine.
MONITOR: Qnix QX2710 Evolution II 1440p Perfect Pixel. I really wanted a 27" 1440p monitor. This looked like the cheapest, decent 1440p monitor that could (possibly) be overclocked to 120hz. I'll be happy if I can get it to anywhere over 100hz. Update: Got it to 115hz stable.
I'll update with OC rates and temps and maybe a new pic with the backplates installed. Update: Added OC rates and temps. Probably as good as I'm going to get for the GPUs. I'll tinker more with the CPU in the future.
