Description

I've been wanting to build a new pc for a while. Black Friday/Cyber Monday came and I pulled the trigger (saved 400-500 bucks too!).

My goal here is to get 100+ fps on a 1440p monitor overclocked to 100+hz while playing BF4 with ultra settings. I still need to tweak and overclock but I have my fingers crossed.

CASE: Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition. I've wanted this case since it came out. I know it's not everyone's cup-o-tea but I love it. Plenty of room, aesthetically pleasing, good cable management (I know I still need to improve mine). The only cons I can think of are that it is pretty heavy and the window is pretty small.

MOBO: Asus Maximus VI Formula. It's been a while since I built my last pc and I have to say I am really impressed with the new (new to me) Asus boards. Both the design and the bios are really impressive.

CPU: i7 4770k. I know I could've gone with an i5 since I'm only gaming but where's the fun in that? Cooled by a Corsair H100i.

RAM: G.Skill Trident X 2400 x16GB. People have had mixed results using these with Haswell but I was seeing ddr3 1600 sticks at higher prices. I'll underclock/undervolt if needed when I start overclocking the CPU.

STORAGE (boot / games): 512GB Samsung 840 Pro. Can't go wrong with these drives. I went with the 512 because I have a 256GB SSD in my laptop and it filled up pretty fast. Games are getting bigger and the higher capacity drives seem to get better benchmarks.

STORAGE (other): 2x 4TB WD Black HDDs. I put these in a Raid-0 array. I get about 7.3TB usable space. This will be for 1080p movies and shows mostly. I'd buy two more and go Raid-10 if I didn't already break the bank.

GPUs: Dual-SLI EVGA 780 Classifieds. These come pre-overclocked faster than stock Titans. I have high hopes for them. I will definitely OC them as high as I can go without water cooling. Backplates are in the mail.

PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1000W 80+Gold. The price was right and hopefully I can use it on my next build. Fully modular with no coil whine.

MONITOR: Qnix QX2710 Evolution II 1440p Perfect Pixel. I really wanted a 27" 1440p monitor. This looked like the cheapest, decent 1440p monitor that could (possibly) be overclocked to 120hz. I'll be happy if I can get it to anywhere over 100hz. Update: Got it to 115hz stable.

I'll update with OC rates and temps and maybe a new pic with the backplates installed. Update: Added OC rates and temps. Probably as good as I'm going to get for the GPUs. I'll tinker more with the CPU in the future.

if you play bf4 can you do a test with two 780's and see what FPS you get at 1080 and 1440?

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 5 points 12 months ago

Absolutely. It's pretty irritating how little info I've been able to find online. The only comments I've found were from the beta.

SparkyOnPC 2 points 12 months ago

thats what im saying! lol thanks a lot man!

IrishWristwatch [1 Build] 4 points 12 months ago

I get around 80fps on ultra with sli SC ATX cooled 780s on 5760x1080p at 144hz if that helps

SparkyOnPC 2 points 12 months ago

oh, lol I meant 1920 x 1080 :p

PacificNic [2 Builds] 1 point 11 months ago

Multiply by 3? :D

Oldking [1 Build] 5 points 12 months ago

+1 for the build. I'd +1 again just because you weren't ignorant to the i5 vs. i7. You had a big budget though, so where is the fun in that?

Happy holidays, enjoy your rig.

DeathClap 2 points 12 months ago

looks nice :)

mcbob5512 2 points 12 months ago

Nice man, You do have a big budget though! Please try and see if you can tell me what fps you're getting with BF4.

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Thanks. Will do.

superninjaleprechaun 2 points 12 months ago

wow. such power.

Awesome build, OP!

leftyrojas430 [1 Build] 2 points 12 months ago

You sir, just made me fall in love with that case (but not the price)!

In the second picture, is the far left screen your laptop?

I have the best stress test for those bad boys! Play at 480p and low settings. I bet you will barely break 30fps :) But in all seriousness can't wait to see how they will perform. Do you want to give me a deal and sell them both for the price of one!?

PacificNic [2 Builds] 2 points 12 months ago

Do you **** money? FFS I WANT YOUR ROOM!! :D

Well done, dude

RyneSmith [7 Builds] 2 points 12 months ago

Awesome build and setup +1

Electrospeed 2 points 12 months ago

Dat monitor price...

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Kills me that they used to go for 260ish...

Electrospeed 2 points 12 months ago

Ah yeah, but those ones had only a 5 dead pixel guarantee, which I guess wouldn't make too much of a difference...

LookTopHats [2 Builds] 2 points 12 months ago

Santa told me to tell you that I deserve your whole room. I have been a good boy all year. :)

ilian11 [1 Build] 2 points 12 months ago

Very nice rig! Can't wait for BF4 results too, please share :P

Ajaxtheman 2 points 11 months ago

AHHHHH raid 0! that just makes me nervous especially with that much data. I really hope **** doesn't go down!

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 11 months ago

Me too. I've had raid 0 in my laptop for 2 years now without problems. I think hard drives are a lot more reliable than they used to be but I might go raid 10 in the future for piece of mind.

Ajaxtheman 1 point 11 months ago

Yeah it may be a big performance jump, but I would feel very insecure.

ryan0ing 2 points 11 months ago

Nice setup. E-Cig FTW! What flavor of e-juice?

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 11 months ago

Thanks. Fruit Stripe Gum is my flavor of choice atm.

ryan0ing 2 points 11 months ago

Nice. Some of my favorites are vanilla, lime-a-beer, and menthol.

Thextruthx 2 points 9 months ago

Dude that thing is sick get some corsair white sleeved power cables and you got one qmazy build

AddictedBuilder [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago

+1 for the Audio technica ath-m50's :)

juheebus [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

I see ath m50's! How do you like the 1440p monitor?

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Haha. So far I'm loving it. Looks great and lots of real estate. I have yet to play a game though. Just finished building a few hours ago.

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 2 points 12 months ago

Be careful when overclocking, you might brick it.

Bladedrummer [4 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

Dayum that's overkill. Nice though. =)

soy_milk 1 point 11 months ago

Do you think that there is room for a sound card (ASUS Xonar Essence STX) on the top PCI slot? Great build BTW!

MrOv3rki11 1 point 10 months ago

hey buddy I'm just about to order my more critical parts and i was bouncing around the web when i saw a few pictures that have the h100i on the outside of the case.. you seem to have worked it out.. can you tell me if its just an easy install or have any pointers before i go and send away on this bad boy

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 10 months ago

It's pretty straight forward. They work perfectly together. Good luck with the new build.

MrOv3rki11 2 points 10 months ago

okay.. thanks very much.. im very excited to build the Pc I wanted to. Im just trying to cover all angles and try to get my "snag" percentage down as much as possible..lol.. a lot of things can go wrong.. but thanks again bud

Danielheater 1 point 10 months ago

you should be getting around 150fps with duel 780s on bf4

MrOv3rki11 1 point 10 months ago

hey man.. i have the same cpu cooler as well as the case, and Im having a little trouble figuring somethings out.. I would like to talk to you more extensively, if thats okay with you.. I see that you put your cpu cooler with the tubes coming from the right side.. Is that the best way to do it? fromm the instructions it has them coming from the left..

i know this sounds stupid but i just want to make sure i get it right the first time through.. i see some people with the fans on top of the case, but i want it where everything will be inside like yours.. yours turned out awesome by the way so if you could give me any pointers id appreciate it... im waiting for my motherboard to get here so i can get started building.. so for now I was trying install the cpu cooler just to pass the time... i replaced the stock h1100i fans with 2 noctua f12s... well hope to heaar from you soon

MrOv3rki11 1 point 10 months ago

sorry ... i just saw that i asked you already ... sorry bud..

Hobboinyourwindow 1 point 7 months ago

hey there I am trying to build a PC I am using a Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX with a Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow and I would like to use a Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid for cooling but PC part picker says that they are not compatible is that true.

stuberty [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

That's weird... It says it isn't compatible on my build now too. I was able to install it without any problems and I see 3 other builds here with the same case and cooler. Maybe pcpartpicker is confusing the Level 10 GT with the GTS model.

Adhabban [1 Build] 0 points 12 months ago

awesome performance, WAY OVER PRICED sorry bro this is an overkill =)

dvada191 3 points 10 months ago

Not for 1440p at 115hz, it's not.
