A Couple's Build (2 Builds in 1)

Hey guys!

Note that these computers are almost identical. Only differences are: Monitors (1 from old build, 1 new), 1 500gig HDD (from old build), and 1 of the TL-WDN4800 wireless cards (again, from old build). Also note, pictures taken with iPhone after long day at work and somewhat rushing to build these before midnight.

This build is for a couple who plays games regularly, and was also bang-for-your-buck oriented. She was gaming on a 2010 Macbook Pro (I swore up and down that gaming and Macbook don't mix) and my old build was basically a i7-920 @ 3.2 and GTX 275 in SLI. Obviously we both needed to upgrade. Both CPUs sit at 4.0 ghz obviously on air and GPUs OC'd slightly. I haven't had a chance to stress test these in any regard since I built these Wednesday, and it's now Friday. The temps on the right are my current temps as I'm typing this. I didn't have too many problems with anything while building these as well, which was a relief. I also plan on getting her a NZXT Hue because she likes her LEDs.

Everything was on sale, except the video cards, or had a rebate like the Monitor. Also I used free 5-7 day shipping because I knew I wasn't really in a rush; this really helped on cost.

Not sure what really else to say other then that we are happy with our new computers and look forward to gaming on them! If you have any questions, I'll answer them!

I know you guys like pictures, as do I; that being said, I apologize in advance that these pictures are god awful.

i7-920 is still strong! I like this build, especially seeing 2 of them side by side!

Excellent builds. side note, you might want to remove the front mid HDD tray to improve airflow from front fans.

As I was flipping through the pictures, I kept trying to guess when the top drive cages would be taken out, but they weren't. :(

Awesome builds though. Happy gaming. :)

Sexy mobo's ;) +1

What kind of games do you guys play?

Nawp209 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

We lead and raid in a top 75 US raiding guild in WoW. She plays more Hearthstone while I play Borderlands 2, SC2, and many more (cause I can now _^)

TNTrocks123 [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

isn't the define r4 case heavy???

Nawp209 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Not really. I had a CM 690 II before and I'd say it's slightly heavier, but that case had plenty of mesh.

Liam81 1 point 13 months ago

Well done but who has the system with the SSD?

Nawp209 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

We both have 1 120gig SSD and 1 1TB HDD. I also have a 500gig HDD from a the previous build.

Worriedwalrus 1 point 13 months ago

I cant justify paying that much for what the psu is but otherwise good.

Nawp209 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

They are 80 Gold and I got them $40-50 off with free shipping, each for a savings of $80-100. Was pretty worth.

Nawp209 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

I took out the extra drive bays today cause I found myself with some extra time and oh man how easy they were to take out. I was putting it off cause I thought it would take around 30 minutes but it took less than 5 for both.

Also both CPU and GPU are running 3C cooler while idling, it's nice!

SgtTherin [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Congrats on the toys! Gotta love gaming with the lady... Or vice versa of course :-) +1

Kragore [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago
