Description

An over the top home theater system in a custom enclosure.

It began life as a desk build but later became an entertainment center to reflect how I prefer to use it.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYUM +1

Ratmandu submitter 1 Build 2 points 13 months ago

I just wanted to share in a couple different places. And if you follow that thread to the end you'll see I just finished it last weekend. Or finished it the second time rather, after I quit using it as a desk.

fnapoli 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Oh ok. I just assume it is and do a quick google image search any time i see a build as awesome and crazy cool as this! Hope you don't mind!

p8blr 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

DO WANT. Sick dude, mad props. Very clean. TUTORIAL PLEASE!!!! lol sorry im excited.

uprightSimian 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Have to agree, that is pretty sick! I now know what my next build will be!

Beastliness23 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Wow. I'm glad to be one of the first to say that I love this build. +1

jaredt 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Dang this thing is awesome. Any plans to water cool the graphics card?

Ratmandu submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Not really, I'm sort of paranoid about taking graphics cards apart. If I do a water cooled gpu at some point it will be when I upgrade and get a EVGA Hydro edition card with the water block already mounted.

jaredt 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Ya it does look pretty daunting, I may try when I get some cash :)

sdogg1m 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

You built a custom wood case for your HTPC and you are worried about removing a heat sink? Just get some good instructions or a demonstration off of youtube and follow it.

Jwood013 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

All you have to do is remove some screws, pull the cooler off and unplug the fan, it'll take you five minutes. My advice is just don't overthink it. Overthinking things can lead to being, well, paranoid! :)

Akut 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Have you placed a heatsink on a CPU before? GPUs are the same thing, 'cept the chips are a thousand dollars. They are a little more sensitive to force, but that's it.

xx116xx 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Possibly the best HTPC ever? Amazing job.

Akut 1 Build 0 points 13 months ago

not THE best, but waaaaay up there.

fnapoli 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

what project is your fav?

Akut 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Someone put a full watercooled computer inside a wall, and put a TV infront of it. You never knew it was there. Imma try and find it and post the link....

marvin0 1 point 13 months ago

Astonishing.

sdogg1m 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Show off!!!!

I am guessing you plan on gaming on this rig as well or else why all the power?

Great custom build though. Invite the family and neighbors to see a movie.

Ratmandu submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

I game on it quite a bit. It's just home theater, big screen, surround sound couch gaming.

Akut 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

All ready for TitanFall I see :P

Lokisson 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

If I could +1 this any more I would.

actechy 6 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

As I started the pics, I was really hoping what looked like just a desk would actually be the entertainment center with TV atop. It was. +1

mzimmerman23 1 point 13 months ago

NICE!!!

MangoMonster 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

after seeing the first picture I immediately hit that +1 button

YodelingTerror 1 point 13 months ago

Do you need more fans?

ThatsPoorlyDrawn 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Oh...it's nothing spectacular. It's not that powerful of a build. HAHAHA joking!!! This is flipping awesome!! Love it! +1

18hockey 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Holy ****! I can see you took any notion of a budget HTPC and threw it out the window! Love it!

Akut 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

A few words. HOT DAMN! Ok, a couple, but you get the point.

+1 for this build, because f@*k towers.

nada190 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

DAMN, how do those custom speakers sound though???

Mad skills you got there.

Ratmandu submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

I really enjoy these speakers. They're a Jim Holtz design, which you can learn about here: http://speakerdesignworks.com/Statements_Monitor.html

joeh4384 5 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

How loud do you have to crank those speakers to overtake the fans?

Ratmandu submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

I've got enough cooling capacity that all the fans run under 500rpm, and the whole system is quieter than the noise floor of the room it's in.

joeh4384 5 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

It looks spectacular. Well done.

canders 7 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

The build log is definitely worth a look. +1

Graestone45 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

+1 for the marantz. Very few people truly understand the meaning of high fidelity audio.

cooperred 2 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Mother of PCs..... +1

Bladedrummer 4 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

(Randy Marsh voice) It´s beautifuuuuul!

wizzer59 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Luverly, well done.

ImSooBored 1 point 13 months ago

Dayuuum

ib10xs4u2 1 point 13 months ago

I use to spend a fair amount of time on home theater sites and saw some really nice projects made from scratch. This wooden case is astonishing. No one would ever know what you have hidden there. What's the clarity of computer text on the 60" screen? Super nice system.

mrluckypants96 3 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Nice, I love unique rigs like this. +1

mstg2000 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

An over the top home theater system in a custom enclosure. WOW, that's putting it mildly... Awesome job!

AustinTheTimelord 1 point 13 months ago

The price of all your fans combines of more than your OS

Ratmandu submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

It's even worse than that, this is the second set of fans. The original set was just too loud.

AustinTheTimelord 1 point 13 months ago

So you spent more on fans than your CPU.

Elshelfo 1 point 8 months ago

Could have used more fans ;P

Ajjasper792 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

wheres the power button?
