this is one fast PC! it will run crysis 3 ultra specs without a single hiccup. also even with the OC'd GPU the case remains cool (35 degrees under load.) it remains relatively quiet while gaming or rendering/ a lot quieter than my old antec chassis fans alone. i know that the 32 gigs of ram and processor are waay overkill for any gaming situation, but this doubles as my work computer where i do a lot of graphic design. the mobo is great, even though the minigun and bullet clip are way lame. very easily to overclock and stable i went slightly over my 2.5k budget (lol) so it may be over a month before i get my new monitors and headset. the only things I'm a little disappointed in are the gpu and psu. when i turn on my PC it seems as if the psu slams the system. large clicks and the fans go to full rpm. the gpu while incredibly powerful has some downsides. the 7990 is completely different than the devil 13 (duh), because its voltage locked. i overclocked it about as far as it would let me go and it wasnt that huge improvement (besides temp) also when the fans hit 85%(rare) it sounds like a jet engine. when i saw the devil 13 trading blows with the 690, i thought that it was at least equal. that may be true, but the 7990 however is vastly inferior if anyone has any thoughts or opinion i would love to hear them :) P.S. i know i should have gotten 2 separate cards, im already depressed enough about it :~(

I can see we're not talking any sort of budget here. Nice build, by the way.

pc_noob [1 Build] 7 points 21 months ago

I find it fun when you build a 3k computer but you camera is crappy or pc parts picker downgraded you pictures

Fastmaster7 2 points 21 months ago

lol pc parts pick

Fastmaster7 1 point 21 months ago

crysis 3 with v sync was getting ~60 when i checked. my mmos/ GW2 gets 100+ with v sync off

Stigs 7 points 21 months ago

see what kind of FPS you get in Crysis 3 without v-sync, because v-sync caps your maximum framerate at 60.

PacificNic [2 Builds] 5 points 21 months ago

It also prevents tearing

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 21 months ago

there was some tearing but the avg was just under 70 with everything turned up to the highest

Stigs 1 point 21 months ago

Nice! It seems that the two GPU chips on that 7990 scale very well. Thanks for looking into that for me.

ImAustin [1 Build] -3 points 21 months ago

no... It depends on the refresh rate of you're monitor.

Wow. This is a powerhouse. I wish I had that budget!

masterbob985 8 points 21 months ago

You mean lack of budget!

masterbob985 3 points 21 months ago

Nice to see some beasts roaming these fields every now and then. Mount you machine into battle, OP, and ride into the sunset with BF3 ultra at 60+fps and Skyrim with ALL the graphics mods.

  • update, i was able to successfully overclock my gpu to 1175 MHz core and 1675 MHz mem-clock @ 1.256V. so far after a day or so of heavy gaming the max i saw was 80C and at least a 10 FPS boost. no artifacting of any kind, 100% stable. only downside its loud as hell (lol) -used sapphire trixx
arodri2021 1 point 21 months ago

How did you raise your voltage if its voltaged locked? Is sapphire trixx the only program that works with this card? what about msi afterburner or powercolors tuner?

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

sapphire trixx has the capability to disable ULPS, which would constrain me to 1145 core clock and 1575 mem clock. the 2nd gpu is 100% unoverclockable.

Enigmadanoob 1 point 21 months ago

This is a monster! Nice build, what is the average fps in modern games at 1080p?

TestBuilds 1 point 21 months ago

Very powerful

bgiunt4 1 point 21 months ago

please tell me you have a multi-monitor setup with 6gb of vram :D nice build!

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 21 months ago

I'm a little broke right now (lol). so it'll have to wait for my next paycheck, but it coming

Vidar2 1 point 21 months ago

Isn't it just 3 gigs of vram each so with 2 7970's so it doesn't count? Or is it 6 gbs of vram.

Also are you using the little support thing for the card that it comes with? It's sort of hard to tell.

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 21 months ago

yeah im using the powerjack. its dorky as hell...

bgiunt4 -1 points 21 months ago

I thought this was a single gpu card. i THINK your thinking of the Ares II

PacificNic [2 Builds] 2 points 21 months ago

It's dual GPU. It's essentially the GTX 690 on the red side (dual 7970s).

Vidar2 3 points 21 months ago

Yeah but still its a fantastic card, but temps are slightly worse and effiency is too than the 690.

PacificNic [2 Builds] 0 points 21 months ago

I never said it was a bad card. To the contrary (and this is from NO personal experience), I think the 7990 may be the better card. This is simply due to the fact that a lot of the time, a 7970 will outperform a 680, but don't hold me to that statement.

Vidar2 2 points 21 months ago

No in sli I think 680 kills the 7970 in crossfire, with better driver support and better performance.

PacificNic [2 Builds] 0 points 21 months ago

As I said, I don't know. I was comparing individual performance based on reviews, but that may be incorrect.

Max11098 [1 Build] 1 point 21 months ago

im impressed

LiquidArrogance [1 Build] 1 point 21 months ago

Some better photos of the inside would be nice.

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 21 months ago

new photos are up

Maxboy 1 point 21 months ago

Dat 7990

AQUM 1 point 21 months ago

Wow nice build. O ya how's the sound card?

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 21 months ago

thanks. it's unbelievable. my friend brought over his beats studio ed. and it absolutely blew my mind. for the price i believe there is no better card

Ggadget 1 point 20 months ago

With this budget i would have went with the cooler master cosmos II.

yusaf123 1 point 20 months ago

Hope my computer will grow up to be like this one day :(, love it.

Djhidden5 [1 Build] 1 point 16 months ago

I once pressed the keys on that keyboard in bestbuy a year ago. I want one so bad. just pressing the keys was epic

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 16 months ago

i cannot ever go back to a membrane keyboard. they are a long term investment though.

k3n85 1 point 16 months ago

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the blue LED's on the MSI 770?

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 16 months ago

unfortunately i dont think so :( works with my blue and black setup though

Infixite [1 Build] 0 points 21 months ago

A beasty rig like this and you have Siberia V2's?!?!? Bro buy Sennheiser HD 600's or HD 650's! Those are LEAGUE'S better than the V2s. And if you want something with a mic then get the Beyerdynamic MMX 300. They DESTROY the V2's. Since you have no budget it shoudln't be a problem!

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 21 months ago

next paycheck i plan on getting an overlord or catleap monitor and a good headphone +mic (separate) this build drained my saving and then some so itll have to wait a month. ramen never tasted sweeter. i absolutely loathe the v2s, i definitely plan on switching.

Infixite [1 Build] 2 points 21 months ago

Look up the ASUS VG278HE monitor. It's the first reasonably priced 144hz monitor. It's $300, and absofuckinlutely amazing. I can say that, I own it. The 144hz response time is so unreal on it. The pictures are really clear and it's honestly the smoothest/fastest monitor i've ever used. I have a GTX 660 Ti and when I play games like Counter Strike Source so it actually hits ~140fps the frame rate is honestly unbelievable to look at. Dude you gotta at least take a look at that ASUS. Please, for your own sake. Especially since you have a 7990.

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 20 months ago

thanks for the recommendation. i will definitely look into it

Jimmy -1 points 21 months ago

Nice build but I would have gotten the ARES II 7990. Forget the Devil 13, it's made Powercolor lol.

Djangosp2 [1 Build] 5 points 21 months ago

You do know those are limited edition and they only made 999, right

Jimmy 1 point 21 months ago

I didn't actually, I apologize.

DjArtifact 2 points 21 months ago

I don't think there are any of those left. Newegg has them listed as discontinued right now.

Vidar2 3 points 21 months ago

If you could.

Jimmy 2 points 21 months ago

Oh, that sucks, sorry for a false recommendation then. I just thought they were very good as under full load both GPU's only hit 34C or something like that. It was ridiculously low.

Jensen117 -1 points 20 months ago

Lol i7 for a gaming build.

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 19 months ago

hmmm, not totally sure where i said its a gaming machine. its being used for picture and video editing as well as some gaming. i could have saved myself 300 usd and dumped some amd "gaming" processor on my Mobo

lt-smith [2 Builds] -2 points 21 months ago

why buy a 7990? you should've waited and saved up for a gtx titan since it's a single gpu with comparable performance. for those components, u don't need a 1200w psu lol.

Maki556 [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 21 months ago

when it comes out i plan to put HIS's 7990 in also ;0
