Description

A small mini-itx build in the Bitfenix Prodigy case. I wanted to try and build a AMD system, so for the cpu i went with the new apu A10-7850K and later added a AMD R9 280X video card from XFX to run all games in full 1080p with highest settings.

I know that a A10-7850K probably wasn't the best choice of cpu, but i wanted to see if i could live with just the onboard gpu, but i couldn't. But then again its still a fast cpu.

I have water cooled my cpu with the Cooler Master Seidon 120V and i have ordered a NZXT Kragen G10 & Antec Kuhler H20 620 to water cool my gpu.

The computer will mostly be used for gaming and graphics work in Photoshop, 3DS Max & Unity3D.

I take it you like the color orange. +1, nice build.

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Yes i like orange a lot. ;)

xx116xx 3 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

Now all you need is some orange LEDs in there... hehe

BenPSkinner 1 point 8 months ago

and some orange peripherals !

alexrok 6 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

That orange prodigy is slick.I wanna make another prodigy build now!

Moon_Rock 2 points 10 months ago

was it hard to mount the cooler on that board?

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Not at all, you just have to remove the standard plastic cpu standoffs thats on the board by default and then just attach the cpu cooler of choice. But just keep the standoffs on the board if you only are using the standard amd cooler that comes with the cpu/apu.

Moon_Rock 2 points 10 months ago

k, thanks for the help, ive been told it could be hard to do with that board.

Supasnail 2 Builds 1 point 6 months ago

I was under the influence that that specific ASRock board family has circuits underneath it and the back plate for that water cooler would damage them. You didn't run into that problem?

Moon_Rock 2 points 10 months ago

How did u connect the fans with only 2 headers?

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

I just use some Molex to Fan header connectors. Like this one from Zalman http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=224

Moon_Rock 1 point 10 months ago

how did you connect the molex to the psu, i cant find any adapers anywere, can you help me please

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

There was a box with my XFX power supply with had all the cables, i just took the one that has two molex connectors at the end, and plugged the other end in to my XFX power supply. If you have the same power supply as me, then you should have that cable?!

Moon_Rock 1 point 10 months ago

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3v6mi My build will be similar to yours, thanks for the help, if you had any problems with compatibility pleas tell me. thank you

GamerDeso 2 points 9 months ago

Yo dawg, I heard you like orange... Oh screw it, I can't pull that joke/meme off. Anyways, awesome build you have there. All it needs is a bit more orange IYKWIM

Electrospeed 1 point 11 months ago

Gotta love the Orange Prodigy! Absolutely gorgeous.

If I may be permitted to ask, why the APU? At least, why the new expensive one? The A10-6800K is £95.99 right now.

Great build! +1

Moon_Rock 2 points 10 months ago

because the 7850k is slightly better on the cpu side

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

I would try to see if i could live without a graphics card, but i couldn't ;)

Moon_Rock 1 point 11 months ago

Is 45 really the hottest?

jackboo1 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Any problems mounting cpu cooler i hear the brackets short the motherboard

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Not at all, it was fast and simpel. And it works like it should. I had no problems with it at all.

Moon_Rock 1 point 10 months ago

What games do u play and how many frames do u get on them. Also can you play minecraft with shaders on max?

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

I don't play minecraft so i don't know about that, but i have tried playing FarCry 3, Titanfall & Crysis 2 and when they all are set to max settings they run with constant 60 fps with vsync on.

Moon_Rock 1 point 10 months ago

K, thanks for the help.

Moon_Rock 1 point 10 months ago

try to get 4.5 ghz its max temp is 73

Did the A10 bottleneck the 280X? Just asking because i have to choose between an i5 and an A10 7850K to lower my budget :) Please answer :D

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

No the A10 7850K doesn't bottleneck the 280X, but if you can afford it, then i would go with the i5 instead, it's just a plain old better cpu ;)

Prömetheus 1 point 10 months ago

So you play with the 280X with the A10 and it run smoothly?

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Yes. It runs smoothly.

redsnork 1 point 9 months ago

Is it possible to have the liquid cooling in the Prodigy AND have a ODD?

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Not in my case because i have two liquid cooling systems in my build, one for my cpu and one for my gpu, but if you only have one 120mm liquid cooling system, then maybe?!

xilikas 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Are you using one of the top fans for the GPU cooler?

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Yes, i use one of the top 120mm fans for the cpu cooler, and the other 120mm top fan for the gpu. ;)

falconsndawgs 2 Builds 1 point 9 months ago

Let me know how you work the G10 into the case. I have a R9 290x and G10 coming in this Wednesday and not sure how to fit it. I've been told it takes up 3 expansion slots w/ card. Our case only has room for 2 1/2 slots... I've though of trimming off excess on the G10 and running a 92mm x 14mm fan instead of the stock 92mm x 25mm

But I could be wrong and it fit without modifications.

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 2 points 9 months ago

My 280X card with the G10 fits perfectly in my Bitfenix Prodigy case, it even has some millimeters to spare. ;)

Robotmutt 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Hey, great build! I have a bitfenix prodigy too and wanted to install the nzxt g10 bracket on my gpu but I've read it will not fit. You added to it to your components list and it isn't in the photos...have you successfully managed to install it? Or did you cut off abit or something to make it fit? Please let me know as it my best option to cool my gpu! :)

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Yes i have installed a G10 bracket on my gpu in the Bitfenix Prodigy case and it fits without a problem. The photos was taken before i got the NZXT G10 bracket.

Robotmutt 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Wow! Could you possible get a photo?? I am desperate to see it as people have said it is not possible and the more I look at the size of it, it does look like it will interfere with side panel. I really want to install it on my gpu.

Robotmutt 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Hey, could you put a photo of the set up with the nzxt kraken g10 please as I really want to mount it on my gpu but it seems large.

Ripedox 1 point 1 month ago

Hey! I am going for a build similar to yours but I'm not a fan of water cooling. Do you think that a Dark Rock 3 can fit on that board?

dragoon20005 1 Build 0 points 11 months ago

just asking so far have you seen any bottlenecks when using the R9 280X with the A10?

I hear from some guys saying the A10 might bottleneck the higher end GPU above the R9 270X

ownerbeast -1 points 11 months ago

the GPU does not have enough space

MadsWare submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Do you mean for cooling, because that's why i have ordered a NZXT Kraken G10 ;)

JTATETA -2 points 11 months ago

why you choose an apu, if you have a graphics card, is was be a better decision use an fx 8320 or 8350

boofheadfred 2 points 11 months ago

That has already been answered, please read comments before posting.
