Nice Build. Are you planing on oc the 7950?

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

I was planning on it but after doing a little reading about that particular model it seems to be more hassle than it's worth. If I get bored one day though I will for sure :)

Animus_of_Chaos [3 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

We you can oc with out changing the voltage. Less hassle get MSI Afterburnner. just make sure you have 3dMark to test for stability.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

I'll give it a shot maybe this weekend

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Looks like I should be able to squeeze 1020MHz/1575MHz out of it with the stock cooler. I'm excited to try it this weekend.

Animus_of_Chaos [3 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

You will noticed the difference. Hope you enjoy the oc !

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Ok, so apparently the cooling on this card sucks according to hardwarecanucks, but I was able to get their 974Mhz/1446Mhz out of it no problem. My highest temp recorded on the GPU was only 67C as opposed to their recorded 88C so I might try to push it a little harder yet :)

It is a blower style cooler you need good airflow in your case. It wouldnt work as good on a test bench(no air flow) so that makes sense

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 17 months ago

Got her up to 1000Mhz/1500Mhz stable. After that everything went to **** lol.

Ggadget 1 point 18 months ago

I like the keyboard.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Clicky Clicky :D

Ggadget 1 point 18 months ago

Annoys people around you, but feels good.

Xenomorphic [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

A very beautiful build and I really like the red/black color scheme of the build. I think the only improvement I would have made personally would have been to put the extra 50$ in and got a 7970 > 7950 however this is just a minor personal preference.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 2 points 18 months ago

Heh funny story behind that, I was originally going for the 7870 and had to throw in the extra few bucks to get the 7950 because the 7870 I was going for was out of stock everywhere I looked. I went over budget by about $100 for the entire build in the end.

Xenomorphic [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

The performance boost of the 7950 is well worth that 100$ price difference + did you get the Never Settle pack with Bioshock and Crysis 3? That's 100$ worth of games right there so you might have broke even ;)Also is that the Ballistix Tracer RAM?

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Yes I got the Never Settle pack with Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3 :) And no it's just the regular Ballistix Tactical ram not the tracer version.

Xenomorphic [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

That pack has some ridiculous value! With regards to the RAM all I can say is Bling Bling Bling.

Gigglerump [2 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Great job keeping the color scheme consistent. Nice to know there are other people out there that care about it. Awesome build otherwise, as well. Great video card, a kick-ass ssd, and a great CPU. Good job! :D

KPeterman098 1 point 18 months ago

Is the 6ms response time any problem while gaming? I've been looking at that monitor, but usually 5ms is my maximum.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Crysis 3 plays very well on it. I'm happy with the monitor except that it has a random whine that's quite annoying. I started the RMA today and will be having it replaced, I'm hoping it's not a common thing with this monitor as it is very nice.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Monitor has beem RMA'd as of this morning soon as I get the new one I'll let ya know if the squealing has stopped or not.

Smily 1 point 18 months ago

So much Asus stuff but you don't have a single part (not including monitor) by Asus

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

Heh yeah I never noticed that, my last pc the one this one replaced was all ASUS/ROG themed and I didn't think before I made that wallpaper doh

xSWATxBadkid [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

RoG with no RoG hardware? Come on man I had my hopes up!

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

I know I know, I made the wallpaper without even thinking cause my last box was all RoG and I didnt even think derp I have no asus in this build lol. Soon as I have time I'll make a new one :)

xSWATxBadkid [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

LOL

TestBuilds 1 point 18 months ago

Nice build, with a nice keyboard! Do you recommend that thermal paste?

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

That paste is super thick compared to the good old silver 5 stuff but it works good :)

TestBuilds 1 point 18 months ago

Thanks for the info, I've been looking into good compounds.

Great build, personally I would've gotten the H80i or H100i for the CPU cooler. But whatever works for you is good.

Enlyten [1 Build] 0 points 18 months ago

I wouldn't be happy with Powercolor and Antec components for the graphics and power, but if they run well, what can I say. The rest is all very fitting :D

Ggadget 1 point 18 months ago

Antec actually makes good psus.

Enlyten [1 Build] 0 points 18 months ago

I know they do, but a 500w Corsair PSU that is modular costs much less, and Corsair PSU's are notoriously reliable. Just my take on PSU's.

Ggadget 1 point 18 months ago

Modular psus are good.

Enlyten [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

...Indeed.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 18 months ago

This power supply has developed a high pitch squeal for 5-7seconds every 25-30seconds. I've tried running it on and off of an APC Back-UPS 1500 with the same results. I put in a request to Antec yesterday, hoping to hear back Monday.

Enlyten [1 Build] 1 point 18 months ago

:/ If that doesn't work out, try to get a similar Seasonic, Corsair, or OCZ PSU.

dallaswilm [Submitter] [4 Builds] 1 point 17 months ago

So Antec refuses to Express RMA this power supply so I'm forced to send them the faulty one and then wait like 3 weeks for them to ship me a replacement leaving me with no computer in the mean time. Epic fail Antec, Epic Fail!

Enlyten [1 Build] 1 point 17 months ago

Oof. That sucks. The best of luck to you.
