Drew's Epic First Build

Hi there. This is my first computer build. I had been interested in PC gaming for a while, so I thought to myself, why not build a rig myself? So I did, and here it is.

I bought this right after Christmas for $1,927, and built it as soon as all the parts came in. Props to IamApropos for helping me pick out parts. He knows what he's doing!

I tried my best with the cable management, and I don't think I did too bad. It looks neat to me.

I literally just overclocked it today up to 4.2, and so far its running stable, and I think i got max temps around 66 or so. Don't really remember. Ill update the temps and speed after I overclock up to 4.5. Heres the link to my CPU Z validation. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2645546

I use this for mostly gaming. I play a lot of The Witcher 2, Skyrim, Saints Row 3, and others, and i haven't noticed any lag or serious fps drop on max settings except in Skyrim. I have around 60gb of mods installed, mostly visual. Im going to overclock the GPU and see what improvements I see. Ill post some FPS rates for my games soon.

Otherwise, Im very happy with what Ive bought, and plan to maybe buy a better monitor and headset soon. Im also looking to name it, any suggestions?

P.S. Sorry for bad picture quality, had to use my phone.

60GB of Skyrim Beauty Mods? You'll have to send me a list. I thought I had a bunch and my entire game folder is only 10GB.

I used almost all of the mods on this texture combiner, and a few others. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20801

Does it work well? I have some beauty mods, and on some weapons and spells I seem to have faint outlines.

I get very little lag, like almost none. I get a drop in fps in heavily forested areas because of the high res trees, but it runs well otherwise.

Makes me regret my choice in GFX...

I would've gone with a DirectCU2 Top 670 with 2GB or a DirectCU2 670 with 4GB. But this build is almost as beautiful as skyrim with your 60GB of mods

Side note: It looks like someone came through here and downvoted everything lol

Nice build, but go check your motherboard manual, the PCI-e 3 x16 slot is the bottum PCI-e x16 slot on the board it is an odd motherboard I was wrong, i accept that now.. :( (Also strikethrough isn't working..)

IamApropos [3 Builds] 1 point 21 months ago

page 22 of that motherboard manual indicates that a single graphics card should be installed into the PCIE2 slot and if you reference page 13 it'll show that is the top PCI-E x16 slot so he has it installed correctly and in the right place ;)

I dont know what to say any more.. ASrocks naming system is poor i guess, along with poor photos.. the Pro4 is the one with the single x16 PCI-e 3.0 I'll accept i was wrong..

I really do love this build! Although If it is primarily for gaming I dont see why you couldnt have just went with a GTX 670. You would maybe lose 5-10 frames, and you'd have an extra 170$ to put towards a nice new monitor. But other than that great build! Btw good cable management for a first time builder. Lol p.s. Props on that liquid cooling unit. How is it?

It's very good. I have been getting very get temperatures running Prime95 on my overclock. I've heard a lot of people say its loud, but I have the H100 and all my case fans (5 to be exact) running on high and all it's just background noise to me. I guess that's all a matter of opinion.
