Lead me to your money tree.
Ha. Nice build! +1
Go to law school.
Wouldn't that suck all your money away? ;)
Just out of curiosity, what kind of law?
Yeah, it's expensive. And I wouldn't recommend it these days, as jobs are few and far between. I do criminal defense.
I feel like "Personal Injury", or whatever it's currently called, would make the most cause idiots are always tripping on their laces and then blaming the pavement owner for not laying down grass :P :D
Very nice. You make em purdy.
Omg lightning! Me want...bad!
Yeah, it's pretty sweet.
My build is dying, begging, pleading for a card like that...*drools. Ok I'm done, lol.
It's nice. It was an open box at Microcenter, so I got it for about $475.
not bad, gratz!!! who in their right mind after seeing that beauty would return it? sick person!!! :P
if you ever upgrade let me know!!
For once, noctua fans actually look nice in a build. Just a quick question. Don't the sli 770's perform better than a single 780? Or do you plan on sli in the future?
Framerates are better with the 770 SLI, but the temps are not. And those Windforce cards get pretty loud when they ramp up. The 780 Lightning hits 73 under full load and is nearly silent. I may SLI it in the future, but right now it's plenty of video card for the single monitor.
how do you like the motherboard? I was thinking bout getting the same one
No complaints. Feels solid, stays cool, overclocks easily. Not thrilled with the fan software, but it's a minor issue.
You should have just bought a 512gb 840 evo
I've been tinkering with this thing for months--I obviously didn't buy two smaller SSDs at the same time. Sure it'd be nice to have one larger SSD, but whatever.
Ok I understand now. Are they very used because you can. Sell them on Craig's list if they are completely wiped for a pretty good price
It's not really an issue for me. I couldn't be bothered to pull them out and go through the hassle of craigslisting them.
did you sell the gtx 770s? Is that an 360 controller I see? if so how is it and what games do you use it for? +1 from me :)
Thanks. I did sell the 770s. That is a 360 controller, it works like a 360 controller. I use it for Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, Tomb Raider, Assasin's Creed. I don't have a decent mouse and keyboard for gaming.
cool, thanks for answering. :)
sweet build. Got any pictures of the whole thing? (Lotsa shots of the cooler and gfx card there :P) Would love to see how it looks from a little farther away. Anyways, awesome job. +1
Thanks. Just posted some better pics.
Thanks, really loving the cable management. Note to self: whenever I have the cash, get some individually sleeved cable extensions.
sweet build, great cable management too
could you give us a wide shot of just the internals though - most of them seem to be really close and don't show off the entirety of the build
Thanks. Just uploaded some better shots.
Nice build man! All of your parts have good price/performance for your budget except do you really need two SSDs?
Thanks. I ran out of room on the 120 pretty quickly, and there are some games that load much faster, like BF 4. Didn't need it, but I wanted it. I probably don't need a 780, either.
That makes sense. Enjoy! ;)
did you find that asus monitor to be worth it for games?
It's really nice. Up to 144Hz at the push of a button and you can hack the Light Boost to work without the 3D which results in zero motion blur. Excellent for shooters, which is what I play most. Some people say the color isn't great, but it's good enough for me. This is also one of the models that will take the DIY G-Sync module as soon as they're available.
ok thanks for the opinion, I am looking for an upgrade to my current monitor that has a 6ms response time and the standard 60hz.
Build looks awesome by the way.
fuark where did you get the midi for 60? nice build btw
Thanks. I live about a mile from the Chicago Microcenter, so I'm in there all the time. I think it was $64? Can't beat that. And the 780 was an open box for $476, I think?
Nice lawyer build. With your money tree, I'd definitely get a mechanical keyboard:
"For thy fingers will be dancing, neither cold nor hot. The warmth of the feedback or linearness shall uphold the most low" - Cherry MX 18:5-3
Hey but the build is great. I would have let the 770s boil but a 780 will obviously poo on every game you have.
Thanks. It's not so much a money tree. More of a bonsai or a small shrub. And it's been picked clean for the time being.
The fan noise from the 770s was too much. R9 levels. And they were 2GB cards. It's better this way.
Ah, I see. Yeah and you do get more VRAM. Fair enough. What did you do with those 770s?
Sold one, returned one.
Great build :D
Hows the asus monitor because i was think about getting it for my new monitor
I like it. Very smooth at high FPS. Takes a little tweaking to get the picture looking good. It's not an IPS panel, but it looks good to me. I got it hoping to install the DIY G Sync kit, but I'm not sure I want to drop another $200. Thought it was supposed to be cheaper. Still a great monitor.
Hey... Nice build. The only problem I have with this and it may sound "****"ish but err... You spend $2k+ on a system. Why would you go for such a cheap headset? You obviously are serious about this system but why not decent headphones?
Unless I am misunderstood and you recommend them... I will immediately go and buy a pair off Amazon.
They're fine, nothing special, I guess, but not horrible either. The only game I co-op on is Borderlands 2, really, so I unless I'm playing that, I'm not using the headset. The speakers are pretty cheap, too. I guess at some point I'll invest in better audio, but it hasn't been an issue.
Nice. For the Noctua fans in the front, did you put them on the ArcMidi's fan controller switch, or did you put the 3 Fractal Fans on that switch? If not, then what speed did you set the Noctua fans to?
I don't use the fan controller. I have them on a splitter on a fan header and control fan speeds with Fan Xpert 2 (I swapped the UD4H for an Asus Hero since those pics were taken). I have all my fans on custom curves that keep it just under 30 at idle.
You have the H105 listed, and you have an air cooler.
Yeah, I need to take new photos. I also have the Hero listed and have the UD4H in the photos. Sorry.
how loud is the 780
Not loud at all. Never goes above 73. MSI makes the quietest cards, in my opinion.
What kind of performance did u get
The core clock is at 1240, memory at 6450. I play everything at Ultra, highest AA settings. I get about 120 FPS in Borderlands 2, 70-80 in Far Cry 3, but I haven't been running Fraps lately. 10400 or so Fire Strike. It's a monster of a card.
I'm a bit confused on the cooling; your list says you used an H105 but in the pics it shows a Noctua...?
Yeah, I need new pics. I also upgraded the mobo.
Terrible pictures and bad quality, great build though.
Just posted some better pics.
I would have loved to seen build pictures but that's alright, +1
Someone got sucked into the advertising "get this because its better" ideal. LOL. Did it make you feel all warm and cozy inside? Do you even notice the difference in upgrade?
