Description

This is my first build and it turned out well. This is obviously a gaming rig. At this moment, I'm still stress testing the system. Things are looking good though. :) My goal was to run the cpu @ 4.6 Ghz but it wasn't stable. I had to lower it to 4.3 Ghz which is not bad for a beginner I guess. :/

I haven't played any game on it yet. I've been using OCCT, MSI kombustor, Unigine (Valley & Heaven) and Cinebench to stress test the CPU and GPU.

Please share your thoughts and advice.

Note: The GPU is MSI 780 Gaming (not Lightning)

Update: I played different games on it, all max out a d ran perfectly smooth!
The games I played were Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Bioshock Infinite, Arma II (Dayz and Dayz origins), Tera online, Final Fantasy XIV ARR.

I also purchased the following parts: Asus Xonar dx soundcard, Logetech 230 headaet, Benq XL2420TE, Corsair (K70, M40 & MM200).

Does anyone know which card is better?: Galaxy GTX 780 Hall of Fame edition or the MSI 780 Lightning I am going with the HOF as my choice :') Nice build btw! :)

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 13 months ago

I personally would go with the lighting, last thing I heard its the fastest 780 out there. Havent heared much about the hof, but hay, I was only interested in the lighting. I have been waiting for it since june, but after they delayed its release I went with the "gaming". I might be saying this because I was reading reviews about the lighting since it came out, so research and find which is better.

Ps. Thanks for the comment!

@SparkyOnPC: This ^ there is a NCIX video (starring Linus) about GTX780 and their performance on youtube maybe you can look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtIl-W4hqrA

@OP very nice build! I would enter the prices you payed for the parts in the build editor, now it gives some really high prices for parts you own. +1

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 13 months ago

I cant recall the prices on top of my head, I'll do that on the weekend if I was free. But the total with unlimited McAfee protection plan (payed for it $20 from newegg combos with the barracuda drive), 2x 200mm fans and 1 140mm fan was about $2.1k

YourLocalPCNoob [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

i havent had my share of galaxy cards, but i heard the MSI lightning is going to be extremely OC'able/

LeMonarque [3 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

The HOF performs slightly better, but you can't overclock it any meaningful amount without turning its fans to 100%. At which point, it becomes 300%+ louder than other cards at load for roughly 10% better performance.

So because of that, I'd get the MSI Lightning or EVGA Classified. The Classified should be quieter than the Lightning. If you want the lowest possible noise with still above-average performance, look at the ASUS DirectCU II. The other cards outperform it, but they are also more expensive, draw more power, and run hotter. Depends on what you want though.

SparkyOnPC 1 point 13 months ago

You seem to know what you're talking about, I was looking at getting the 780 HOF, tell me, what is the difference between the MSI 770 lightning and the galaxy 770 HOF?

LeMonarque [3 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

770? I honestly haven't looked at the 770 HOF at all. But I do know that the 770 Lightning is capable of overclocking up to stock reference GTX 780 performance for much less. But of course you can also overclock the GTX 780.

SparkyOnPC 1 point 13 months ago

so 770 lightning overclocked would beat the 780 HOF?

LeMonarque [3 Builds] 2 points 13 months ago

No, 770 Lightning overclocked would match or beat a stock reference GTX 780. The ones that use that grey aluminum unibody cooler with the single blower fan on the right and the illuminated "GEFORCE GTX" logo - the ones that overclock the worst but look the flashiest.

It wouldn't beat any of the custom designed cards. Technically it doesn't beat the reference card since you can overclock that one, but you can at least reach up and scrape the ceiling of the next tier with the 770 Lightning.

xolot1 [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

I read from a 770 HOF user that the card's fans get loud when under load. Take that into consideration b4 purchasing.

Bartmanicus [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Go with the ACX [Evga version] Get the one with the highest clock. It's quiet, overclockable and come close to the titan. Read the maximum pc review

Norm101 [2 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

Great part selection. Nice build!

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Thanks, had to ask and research a lot to finally come up with this build.. And I'm very happy that I did because I learnd a lot!

IBIubbleTea 1 point 13 months ago

Why did you get the G45? The GD65 is mostly for i7 and the G45 is for the i5.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

I got it for the expansion slots. A lot of upgrades are coming up next year for this build.

fnapoli [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

What monitor are you using with this beast?

DontUSASme 1 point 13 months ago

Looks like a ViewSonic.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 13 months ago

Yeah it is. I've been using it for my past pc that I got from ibuypower. But I'll be saving up for the 27" Asus 1ms (or 2 ms cant recall) monitor.

YourLocalPCNoob [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago
  • Why not the G45 instead of the GD65? It only has more PCI and SATA ports and physical OC Genie button....
  • However i like the color scheme. Good job!

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

I just got it becauae I will be upgrading the system and adding more stuff to it. Thanks, appreciate ur comment.

islushi 1 point 13 months ago

Nice build, nice to see an overkill GPU instead of CPU.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Thanks, although I wouldn't call it an overkill until I throw in another card for SLI hopefully next summer!

Dr_Procter [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Awesome Build! Quick question is the phantom worth the money? I want to get it but don't know if it is worth the $130. Overall though, this build looks amazing and will run games without a problem.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

To me personally, It's totally worth it. Dont forget the P530 is a full tower. It means that u gonna get pleanty of space to do pretty much anything. I already installed a kraken X60 on top ( wanted to do a push pull setup but the motherbard interfered) and I can add another double 120 radiator at the bottom. Its not as big as the P820 but its price is very competitive against all the full tower casesout there. There are some reviews on youtube too, go check them out. One thing I noticed about the red version is that the color of the metal panels is different than the top and front plastic panels. Its the same with P410, I just hoped they would sort it out by now.

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

That doesn't look like the msi lightning to me.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Thats because its not, its the MSI GTX 780 Gaming :P I didnt get the lightining because they delayed its release, it will take about a month if I order it now, and it dosent go with the color scheme. Especially with all the blue leds in the fans and on the back. Although after watching its reviews i kinda like the red & blue combination now.

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

Yeah, i too hate when companies release a great product but kill it with colors. Like noctua, and msi lightning and asus gold motherboards. That is why i am interested in the Galaxy hof edition gtx 780. It is faster than the msi lightning ya know. Looks great too being all white. The chips are binned and overclock like crazy.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

Its a great choice if u can live with the all the noise it makes. I wish u good luck mate!

Plectro 1 point 13 months ago

Awesome build I love it so much I think i'll make something similar just with a 7970 or something but nice work!

Plectro 1 point 13 months ago

Did you get the red LED's with this case or did you buy separate because if you did where can I get them since I'm going to use this case. Also I see there is a red LED fan at the front did that come with or did you buy two led fans one for side and front?

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 13 months ago

No, I got both the sleeved led kit and the front 200mm led fan from amazon. They are both nzxt products..the case does come with a white 200mm fan which and 140mm fan are not led.. Sleeved kit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0046Y1622/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1379741300&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70 200mm Fan: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BONJINC/ref=mp_s_a_1_sc_2?qid=1379741495&sr=8-2-spell&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

I have a question about the psu. Does it come with a molex? Nice build btw

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 days ago

sorry for the late reply, I never thought i would get asked after posting the build for so long. Thats why I never bothered to check. The answer for your question is yes. it does come with molex cable.

JustAnotherGamer 1 point 4 months ago

I'm clapping right now. This is a beautiful build.

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 days ago

Thanks a lot. right now, I'm thinking of building a new mitx in hadron hydro case from evga.

JustAnotherGamer 1 point 14 days ago

I wish you the best of luck then. :D How's the part list going?

KernelKaramilk 1 point 3 months ago

I'm thinking of using the Red 530 Phantom as the case for my first build too (I LOVE red), is it a good case overall?

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 days ago

Its an excellent case. everyone who ealk into my room admires it and takes a closer look at my rig. its very flashy. however, after a while, I started to look into the mitx cases. I'm not using the full potential of the p530, so I think its better if I went with something like the hadron.

Darin2000 1 point 3 months ago

howd you make it light up?

Alhammadi [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 14 days ago

I used some sleeved red leds from nzxt that I found at amazon for $20. sorry for the late reply.
