Description

[Build Complete] After Vegas PC Build! 4770K/HD7970/MSI Z87-G45 First PC Build! A dream comes true! I have always been a huge gamer growing up and I always wanted to build a pc of my very own. Now I have finally did it! At the beginning of year I started looking into building a PC, however, I quickly realize that Hasewell was going to be released within a couple of month. So I waited. During this time I had a trip to Vegas for EDC and manage to get pretty lucky at the poker and blackjack table ending up close to over $5k! :D

So I revisited BuildAPC and begin looking at all the builds and below is what I settled on.

First build was a semi-successful (PC POST and BOOTED). However, I ended up having to RMA motherboard because I was having problems with dual channeling the RAM. While I waited for my motherboard to return I continued to lurk BuildAPAC and was inspired by other members to manage my cables better. So I decided to redo my cable management and spray paint all the cables black. I think it turned out pretty well. What do you guys think?

The cables look good, however you can run into problems with spray painting your cables. Like if you ever want to sleeve them it'd be helpful to know the colors. Good part selection, but I'm wondering why you went with two 8gb single channel ram kits, instead of a dual channel 8gb kit for cheaper. I also wonder why you went with the 4770k instead of the 4670k. Sorry to hear about the motherboard. I also really like the 7970. It doesn't get used enough

Thanks for your input! The reason I got the single kit ram was due to the promotion and sale at the time. It was cheaper to get the 1 stick. I got the 4770K because I wanted the hyperthreading as I'm going to be using my PC for alot more than just gaming.

Yea, I love my 7970. I got lucky, it was on sale and I got 4 free games with it. I ran all the games on ultra with no problems at all and temp never go above 65 C.

Seriously why the hell is everyone ripping him about his RAM? Gosh I hate unnecessary criticism when it's not needed. His board doesn't support quad channel (I think only x79 boards do, don't know) plus he got 16GB for under $100.

Nice build, 4770k probably wasn't necessary if you just game but you did well with the other parts so I think it's fine. Still under $1,500

lol. I was kinda thinking the same thing about the RAM. :P

Yea, 4770K was probably splurging a little bit, but I'm using the PC for more than gaming. Thank for the input!

Outstanding build all-around. Extremely good upgrade ability here. Also built by a master of the casino :D +1

Haha thank you. I got lucky. I don't usually do that well, but I have study poker and blackjack extensively.

JTsComputer [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

How do you like the speakers? I'm thinking of picking up a set this week

davidn20 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

I like them alot, blasting them right now. haha I think for the price it's one of the best you can get.

JTsComputer [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Sweet, cause I found them on sale for $30!

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Wow where'd you find that deal?

JTsComputer [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

was at memory express for like 3 months on sale 50% off. Definitely are good...very impressed

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Okay thank you!

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Okay thank you!

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Do you think they will run that sale again? Because the lowest I can find right now is $58 and I don't wanna pay that much if a new sale is around the corner you know?

JTsComputer [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Doubt it, but who knows

zSyzygy [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

Okay thank you for the responses, I appreciate it.

League <3

I got 2 questions 1. doesn't painting void your warranty? 2. doesn't the pain make the cables hard?

davidn20 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Nope, cables were still flexible and I was able to work with them just as easily. I have no idea if it void my warranty or not...lol Though I did read somewhere that a guy called and he said it didn't...

fsma92 [2 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

alright I hope so :) I thought it was a really smart and cool idea.

Awesome :)

Nice build, your cable management puts me to shame :) Very balanced, good deal finding on that 7970. I would be interested to see more about your CPU temps though, 42 C seems a bit high for idle... is it the cooler? Anyways nice build!

davidn20 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Right now I'm getting around 38 C. I guess cause it was warmer during day. My room does get pretty warm sometime. However CPU on load doesn't go over 70 C, which I read was decent. Though I think it is running alittle warmer since I put it together the second time. I don't think I use enough thermal paste this time around.

Mleibowitz97 [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

nice idea and lucky you!! The only thing i would have changed was the RAM, and you already received advice on that..even considering, it's still a great build!

Pwntastic [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Nice build! How is that Sapphire 7970 treating you? Any problems at all?

davidn20 [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Nope. I love my 7970. I got lucky, it was on sale and I got 4 free games with it. I ran all the games on ultra with no problems at all and temp never go above 65 C.

Pwntastic [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Awesome! Thanks. I'm having a tough time choosing a GPU.

duckeytrollstien 1 point 12 months ago

get a 7970 a 770 or a 760 if you are on a budget

skemble [16 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

If you overclock the 4770k and your RAM you might be able to get a perfect windows index! Not that it matters, but it would bother me haha

Bartmanicus [1 Build] 1 point 12 months ago

Great build, looks good. But I'd up-vote for the Lol in the background alone.

Great job. If more people knew that cooler gets better numbers then the 212 evo they would buy it and being $10 cheaper on amazon

mrcooliest 1 point 9 months ago

Just a question about the case. I plan on building with this and want to Crossfire in the future. Is there enough room for 2 cards and a HDD?

Tuxx 1 point 9 months ago

Looks nice, some fps stats?

DerekPDX 1 point 7 months ago

I've heard some people complain that the cable length for that power supply makes cable management difficult, especially with the power cables. Did you run into that problem?

EcoMCG 1 point 7 months ago

How's the case? I'm thinking of getting the case!

+1

bigapplepietart 1 point 7 months ago

I thought you called it After Vegas cause you were gonna use After Effects and Sony Vegas :p

Awesome build :) Hopefully I can build a PC if I can get a summer job! ;)
