Description

This is my build, I mostly use it for playing games, but i do some internet browsing on it as well as make videos from fraps footage i take in my games. Im in college and living in an apartment right now so forgive the mess. Ive been working on this for awhile, but ive finally got it to a point where im pretty happy with how it looks. I like to go to LAN parties with my system alot, but not as often now that is like almost 100 Lb's and i have a 2012 mustang so it also doesn't fit in my trunk haha....

Go easy on it.

OS and some games on the SSD, backups, media, and STEAM/Origin games on the regular hard drives.

I bought the 3930k and X79 board after my Maximus VI extreme i was using with a 4770k died, and i was tired of waiting on ASUS RMA.

That cable management! Nom nom :)

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 5 months ago

Yeah, that's one of the things im mostly not happy with, The GPU cables look stupid. Hopefully if I ever talk my self into spending $90 on the EVGA cable kit the individual sleeved will look better.

skemble [17 Builds] 4 points 5 months ago

Check out Ensourced.net for custom sleeving!

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Hmm, while those look alot nicer just the ones you can see (CPU, GPUs, Mobo) its around $70 for another $20 i can get a full set of cables that aren't extensions.

skemble [17 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

He does extensions and full sets too. You can even send him your cables (he only does EVGA, Corsair, Seasonic) and he will sleeve them and cut them to any length you might need. I have a SFF build coming up and I am considering getting some cables shortened and sleeved by him. Just another option for you!

ShammysPC [4 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

Hey I have a quick question. I also would like to get all my cables sleeved and was just wondering, where do I go on his website to find that option or would I have to contact him directly? Thanks!

skemble [17 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

Just contact him directly and he will help you. He's a nice guy, but he's getting married soon so order quick!

Catalyzer [1 Build] 6 points 5 months ago

This is really classy , i wonder why hasn't it got so many upvotes ? Anywyas +1 , gr8 build !

ITneto 5 points 5 months ago

I expected sleeved cables! but incredible build!

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Ive always wanted them, it looks super hard to do yourself. But i found out EVGA now sells the kit for my PSU every cable single sleeve but its $90 which i know is a good price compared to doing it myself, but its still a set of cables.... that cost 1/2 as much as i paid for the entire PSU.

ITneto 1 point 5 months ago

Yeah maybe it is not worth it, the build actually looks awesome

Moops 1 point 5 months ago

Any chance of a link for that cable kit? Wondering if my EVGA 750W would be compatible.

SleathX1 [1 Build] 3 points 5 months ago

with that poster on the right, we all know what you're using those WD Greens for... xD

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Ive had the 2 500GB greens for a long time, ive had one for almost 7 years, and the 2nd one probably 6 years. The 2TB was a WD My Book i think, i never used it as an external drive, so i ripped it open and put it to use inside the PC.

SleathX1 [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

dude it was a joke, but on a serious note, this is really a great looking super-high end build

oh, and how quiet is it with all of those fans running at once?

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

They are SP120 High Performance fans, so 16 of them running at once is not quiet at all :D Its not "loud" like delta's or anything but not no silent fans either.

TheLastBoss78 [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Oh that makes more sense. I was wondering what was up with those drives compared to the rest of this build. You might wanna make a note of that or mark them as pre-purchased! Not that it matters much though.

IronBoot27 2 points 5 months ago

Holy balls that is majestic

PolishXlion [1 Build] 2 points 5 months ago

I love it! It's a great build. SO why AMD cards over Nvidia? Not a bad choice but just wondering.

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 5 months ago

I was Nvidia fanboy since i got my very first 7800GT, Around November 2013 i was looking for an upgrade and found newegg was selling 7990's for $600. At the time the GTX 780 was more then that, and wayyyyy slower so I figured why not. Bought it loved the card, and loved it even more once i saw the price they sold used on ebay. Sold it to some bitcoin miner on ebay for $1300 about a month after i bought it, which paid for both of my 290x.

Norm101 [2 Builds] 2 points 5 months ago

I don't know if she's classy, but she is sure as hell sexy. Gorgeous build , man!

smittypantz@hotmail.com [10 Builds] 2 points 5 months ago

Looks amazing. I know you are contemplating sleeved cables, The silverstone extensions are cheap. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812162052 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812162040

mcliman3 [2 Builds] 2 points 5 months ago

You're in college and you can afford this and a 2012 mustang? Am I just doing it wrong?

DavisTheWalrus [1 Build] 2 points 4 months ago

to bad the 295 x2 wasnt out when you built this

nada190 [3 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

I actually wanted to ask you on OC.net to post it here, now I don't have to. Looks great!

Love those posters too.

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Yeah, I did the Corsair #PCDomination thing on their forums so I had to roll my PC out where i could take some pics, so i figured while i had some new pictures I would post them around.

EDIT: Ive worked at a movie theater since the summer before my senior year in high school and we can take home any of the posters we want. The one above the PC was a present from my step-dad though.

dustfinger 1 point 5 months ago

Really nice build, I've always wanted to do one in the 900D. And how do those 290x's run in crossfire, are they stable?

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 3 points 5 months ago

They run good. I used to be full Nvidia fanboy until I bought a 7990 around the end of 2013, it ran better then expected. I paid $600 for that, and was able to sell it on Ebay for $1300 due to the minning spike, which paid for both of my 290x. From now on, ill be buying GPU's based on performance not its brand name or AMD/Nvidia.

Instinc [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

the question is...can it play minesweeper?!

houseoftyrone 1 point 5 months ago

ALL THE GIGAHERTZ BABY. +420 because without that custom wc the cpuwould be blazing it.

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Yeah im running 24/7 at 5Ghz 1.5v for the past few months though I might drop it down to somewhere around 1.4v which nets me around 4.7ghz for the summer. Right now in my apartment (which is 2 rooms a bedroom and living room/kitchen) it has a "hotel" style AC unit that i keep at 60*f. But this summer ill be living with my parents again until i found a job related to my degree somewhere and they keep their house in the mid 70's

houseoftyrone 1 point 5 months ago

Yeah, I always keep my room at 60 degrees.

RichardFoxfire [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Sweet build and set up +1

dbdev [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

+1 dude.. looks great!

Cru3L139 [2 Builds] 1 point 5 months ago

hah. this looks so much like my old build. well done!

ExarKun [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Would u answer 1 question? How much space do u still have at bottom of case? Im going to get 900D and put PSU with 80mm ratiator + push/pull 25mm fans on bottom and i wonder that they will fit or not?

BTW Great work!

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

It should fit, only if you don't do pull on the space right in front of the PSU. My rad at 60mm w/ P/P the fan is about 5mm away from the PSU. With your 80mm rad your thinking of, it would put the rad right up against the PSU, but should have room.

ExarKun [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Thank you for checking. Sow i ll get 6fans for rad at bottom:/

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

Depending on your PSU, you could probably do 7. My PSU ends right before the 2nd fan going from the back to front of the case on the back of the rad. With a 80MM rad, and that 7th fan it might get in the way of some of the modular connections if you use them all

ExarKun [1 Build] 1 point 5 months ago

im grabbing LEPA 1600W PSU http://pcpartpicker.com/part/lepa-power-supply-g1600ma no way to fit another one fan on rad:D

@edit: now i see my PSU is shorter than yours:D additional 40mm saved in lenght sow 7th one should work:D

iiilgsrlll [1 Build] 1 point 4 months ago

Clean build! Nicely done.

What type of LED light bar are you using in this build?

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 4 months ago

Just some cheap one from newegg, brand started with a L i think.

DJsmarties 1 point 3 months ago

In the last picture that shows the overview of your setup the is a hometown hotties poster in the corner, I have the same one bro! Anyway thats one hell of a system!

Chiekotz [1 Build] 1 point 2 months ago

Damn, thats one wide chassis!!!

ronaldounit0 [1 Build] 1 point 2 months ago

Beautiful build, looks very mean!

Also, if that's the GT, then you should check out the GT500 mufflers with an offroad crosspipe (someone I know has that setup, and it sounds fantastic). If it's a V6, then I take back my +1 (not really) :P

InsanelyEpic 1 point 2 months ago

very nice build :)

is the corsair headset you got decent? been lookin at it for a bit but still not quite convinced to buy it yet

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 2 months ago

Yeah its pretty nice, I have a large head and ears and it fits them fine. Sound is pretty decent as well.

Reconmidget [1 Build] 1 point 27 days ago

How's the AOC monitors?

ShortySmalls [Submitter] [1 Build] 2 points 25 days ago

They are great, not having a "physical" bezel makes them perfect for my eyefinity setup too.

They are my first IPS monitors, and it is night and day difference between a regular TN panel and IPS.

Reconmidget [1 Build] 1 point 24 days ago

Thanks, hopefully will be getting them.

Ardeof 1 point 25 days ago

There are no pics... of the Mustang.

So your a trust fund kid, sell drugs, or you live on water and condiments packets from the gas station? What kind of college kid can afford all of that? Must be nice.
