Description

This build is for my brother who spent his life gaming on a laptop. So i decided to build him one as he's entering second year university :)

i have reasons for my partlist as i have learned from my mistakes from the past.

-Locked processor, so i went for H87 chipset locked cpu=no aftermarket heatsink required -the ram was cheaper than the price listed, it was the same as 2133 but they didnt have it in stock :c - and 5$ more than 1600mhz -power supply may not be as pictured, but it is literally the same thing but different colour and naming scheme

im reusing one of the two 7850s i got during an amazon price markup error (i got it for 80$ each)

SSD? i decided to opt for one of the highest end consumer ssd's to see how they preform. i will update later on performance and stability as time goes by.

The case is just amazing. Considering there are no cable management cutouts, i was still able to route wires to the back. So to those who claim cable management is impossible? you're a liar!

It was a challenge to cable manage, but the results were satisfying. anymore suggestions? (what video card should i get thats under~400$ (including tax)?

If you can go to 400 with a gpu either get a 7970 or 770, but i would say 770 then.

skemble [16 Builds] 2 points 13 months ago

I second this motion.

Smily 2 points 13 months ago

For 1440p or 1600p, get a 7970. At 1080p, 2GB VRAM is getting surprisingly close. But no issues yet.

istealunderwear [7 Builds] 2 points 13 months ago

Ya for high res or for multi monitor get a 7970, but for single monitor get a 770.

Hammcd -2 points 13 months ago

or a 4gb 770

Smily 3 points 13 months ago

No. The 770 has a 256-bit memory bus. This works fine for 1080p, but really holds the card back at 1440p/1660p.

Solution: R9 280X, performs almost the same as a 770, has 3GB, and wider memory bus. Plus it gets the Mantle API, and it's cheaper.

I would have recommended the 280X if it was actually in existence at the time of the comment :/

Or you could use a 7870 GHz to save money

Ugh that ram makes me want to build an all intel system, i hate builds where every part is a different brand

awilzman [3 Builds] 1 point 13 months ago

NICE camera!!!! Good build too :P

  1. The 770 is 400$ and gives you some extra performance but the 7970 is right there and plus you can get a GHz edition for less than 400$ which I say you should do.

Papajenkinz 1 point 12 months ago

Nice pics, would you recommend the psu?

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 12 months ago

yes i actually would. it is on the pricey side considering non modular, but its really efficient

Papajenkinz 1 point 12 months ago

Great, when I buy my parts, I was condisering that psu. Thanks again

BurntToast 1 point 11 months ago

love the name lol

sharkbyte5150 [1 Build] 1 point 7 months ago

What tweaking was required (if any) to get the RAM to run at 1866? I'm about to do a build with that same board and with an i7-4770.

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 7 months ago

H87 is incapable of running at 1866, my RAM only runs at 1600 using that board. its a bottle neck i was aware of, but chose for 1866 since it was the same price

ThunderHead_MC 1 point 6 months ago

Would the Corsair CX600 psu fit in this case?

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

Should be able to, it fits standard atx PSUs :)

ThunderHead_MC 1 point 6 months ago

cool. Ok because I need a mini itx LAN party build and this seems to be perfect... just need to modify some parts in the list.

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

Looks okay, couple things though.

Switch the motherboard to a z87 chip set if you want to keep the 4670k, otherwise change the CPU to the 4670.

I would suggest a better video card. The 660, 660ti aren't that great for long term update for games. It WILL be outdated soon. I suggest a 760, but if your budget does not allow, go for the AMD r7/r8 site of GPUs.

Lastly, this isn't a mini itx machine, this is micro atx. Just pointing that out :) hope this helps!

ThunderHead_MC 1 point 6 months ago

Im only looking to recording and playing Minecraft.. for now, so I don't really need a top notch pc for it. I will upgrade and add as time goes on and bigger games come out.

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

i understand, but the cpu motherboard is in many people's opinion not optimal. the h87 does not allow you to overclock, where as the 4670k is meant to be overclocked. switch either the motherboard or cpu as i have suggested and that will be perfect, trust me on this one!!

clarkester1007 1 point 6 months ago

How many extra fans can you put in this case?

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 6 months ago

there should be 2; one front intake (included), one 80mm fan i added :)

rishabhchugh13 [1 Build] 1 point 2 months ago

Hey, nice build! I'm planning in using the same MoBo in my build. Is it any good and were there sufficient cables provided with it?

Mincading [Submitter] [10 Builds] 1 point 2 months ago

Thanks! its good for moderate builds. Keep note you cannot overclock. the mobo includes 2 sata cables, you may have to buy an extra depending on your sata harddrive/optical drive setup :) other than that, any MSI mobo is a solid choice in my opinion :) goodluck!

rishabhchugh13 [1 Build] 1 point 2 months ago

Ok, thanks!

CbassFishin -1 points 13 months ago
