As a staff we realized that our minimalistic forum/commenting guidelines did not sufficiently cover everything we wanted. To make our position on forum participation more concrete, we've added two codes of conduct:

User Code of Conduct

Industry Affiliate Code of Conduct

Another great decision from PCPP!

I have no issues with any of the above but for the affiliates, why would it be bad for someone to explain how one of their products might better respond to the needs of another?

I understand a line between explaining and offering a product vs flat out bashing on competition however, wouldn't this encourage manufacturer competition and help pushing forward products that stand out of the pack or are tuned for specific needs and tasks to be recognized?

In short, I don't want the forums to be a marketing/advertising venue.

I understand but if the product fits the bill and the reasoning doesnt sound like advertising it doesnt bother me but I guess it becomes thin ice to know where things fall.

If the affiliate is the one pitching the product, its marketing and is seen as bias. Its one thing to speak about it, but to push it on others over another option is just going to give a bad impression...

I'm glad something more specific ands substantial has been added to the rules.
