Reviews

from completed build BARRACUDA

Oh boy. This thing plows through games like a champ. I love how many filters I can fit into that 4gb. I've had this card for about a year now. I really have no real qualms.

I don't ever recall having a piece of hardware I was more impressed by than this R9 290. Sure the architecture is dated compared to the competition, being merely a tweaked and upscaled product from the original HD7000 series, but for a GPU architecture that's been around for nearly three years I'm impressed it's been competitive with the newer offerings from the competition, even if it isn't as fancy or "trendy".

That being said, aside for some terrible console ports, I can't recall any game made in recent days that this card hasn't been able to exceed at least 45 fps at 1080p. I didn't buy it with 1080p gaming in mind, although it's nice to know having 4GB VRAM means almost anything at 1080p won't suffer from stuttering.

Not the coolest, or the quietest, or the cheapest R9 290, but it does it's job and does it pretty well. Plus, mine was able to be unlocked to an R9 290X.

Maxes out every game I've thrown at it, so no complaints.

from completed build Evolution V2 - The AMD Beast

Great performer. Plays all games at max settings, without even a stutter. Had to knock off a star due to it getting super hot under load, however. Really is sad that they don't manufacture these anymore, and it's hard to come by one. Overall, a true beast.

Excellent price/performance. Very powerful card.

from completed build Imperial Class Star Destroyer

I bought this used as an open box deal from Microcenter for $150. It maxes everything I play at 1080p 60 FPS compared to my GTX 960.

However, I have to deduct a star due to it being basically a space heater at the same time, this thing runs HOT AND LOUD!

Overall, Im satisfied.
