So I will start off by saying this is my FIRST build....EVER. Im a "virgin" at building PC's, so be gentle, kay? (JK)
I have been an avid mac user for many years now, and so far I have had 3 imacs in my lifetime and a macbook pro, Ipad, Iphone... etc. But when it came to games I was sorely disappointed at the performance side of things.
After installing windows on my second mac I was able to play some games extremely well; Guild Wars 2 is an MMO that has a mac version of the game but runs like crap. On the windows side, I was getting 30fps on most situations, but graphics were on mid-low settings.
After purchasing my third and current mac, I had amazing FPS scales on high settings: 60FPS on most occasions while 15 FPS with a lot of events going on. I was happy with it, but something was missing... I wanted to run the game at 60fps ALL THE TIME.
After doing months of research on gaming pc's and how much superior they are against the likes of gaming consoles (which I own PS4 and WIIU atm) I wanted to make a drastic change in my life: I wanted to use a PC for all my gaming endeavors.
Needless to say, I went a bit overboard. I wanted to become future proof, but one thing led to another and I just wanted to remodel the entire gaming room for myself, buy new desk, etc... Im very happy with what I have accomplished with ABYSS and wanted to hear your opinions on it.
Here is a breakdown of the increased performance compared to a mac. Yeah, is not even fair, but....
Witcher 3 on Mac: NOT PLAYABLE Witcher 3 on ABYSS: 60fps always with everything maxed BUT hairworks GW2 on MAC: 60FPS most places, 15FPS when @#$% hits the fan GW2 on ABYSS: 144+ FPS most places, 30FPS on some places (I think thats a GW2 problem)
NOTES: 1) I dont have many games on PC atm...
2) Running at 144hz (with the 165hz potential) up from the Imacs screen refresh rate of 60hz is an incredible experience. Honestly, I cant play on the Mac anymore...
3) I have yet to do an Overclock on both CPU and GPU. Not sure on how to do that atm, or even if I CAN do it at all.
ENDING NOTES: Once the research is done, building a PC is SUPER easy. I was initially intimidated with it, but boy was it fun! Only issue I have seen is that windows is not as stable as IOS. I have to admit it, but for work, MACs beat PCs all the way for me, but I will be keeping my Imac and just use the PC for heavy gaming. The Apple machines have yet to cause me trouble, but windows already crashed on me once, and I had to do a full system repair process with the original windows CD.
Still, Im happy with the beautiful monster I have created, and Im very interested to hear what the wonderful PCPARTPICKER.com community feedback, which I can learn from by stretch and bounds. Thanks ya'll!
