Description

New crunching / home office rig, built December 2014.

The Fractal Design Define R4 Blackout is a great case for a powerful home office computer - it's great looking, quiet, with plenty of room for components and airflow.

I chose the i7-4790K based on recommendations from other BOINC crunchers and its performance per watt. The other components are selected based on highest performance, efficiency, quality and expected longevity for the dollar.

With the included BIOS, I had major heat issues with the i7-4790k. With the latest update, everything is working much better. It's a good looking board with some nice features!

Way to go man, you have quality parts. Deff +1. This PC would be nothing short of amazing if you had a little bit better graphics card XD

Thanks. I'm all about the Double Precision - gotta go with the 7970/280X for that. I am looking to add another GPU... maybe then it'll be up to standards ;)

If your thinking of getting the 280x, check this baby out, its by far one the best graphic cards out there for that price. and that sexyness.. I have owned for about a week now and i can throw any game at it..handles it with ease. I tried getting this card to be load but nothing i try works. Sapphire really needs to step up their marketing because this card is just too damn good.

check it out.

Is it just me or does the 750 ti look better than the 970? :P

Thanks a lot for sharing, really loved this one. Hows the OC'ing on that Motherboard. I wanna play around with my sister's G3258 before it goes into my Dad's build. xD

The EVGA 750 Ti FTW is a pretty sweet card... but the 970 SSC is a huge step up! They work well together, really.

The GA-Z97X-UD3H overclocks pretty well for me, both in BIOS and in Windows GUI tweaking. The Kraken X41 really opened the lid on CPU clocks. Then again, I'm not an extreme OCer - I prefer stability and moderate noise levels over extreme speeds. Good luck!
