Description

This is the first PC that I have built myself. My previous windows gaming computer was last used in 2006, it was a custom job I had a shop build for me with little input on my part. I've been a Mac person since then which is great and I will continue to do all my media stuff and browsing on one. I do have bootcamp/win 7 on my macs which were used for light gaming (7 days to die or DayZ mostly) but mostly I was on XO. I do have an Oculus Rift DK2 and the lack of continued Mac support was another reason I'm doing this build, I will probably get the HTC Vive instead of the CV1 in a few months and this should hold up to whatever VR can throw at it for a while.

But most of all, Im sick of consoles and ready for a high end PC gaming experience again so here we go...

Initially ordered an ASUS z-170a and paid that price however the Amazon seller accidentally shipped me the Z170-PRO instead for the same price which was cool, still matches the aesthetic and was easy to work with.

I think I stripped a couple screws when mounting the MB and as it turns out with this case you really need to attach the backplate for the cooler before mounting the board, not enough clearance, took a couple attempts but got it. That was the only major snafu. Also purchased a white sleeved MB power cable, looks great.

I actually have the NVIDIA 1070 FE from the Nvidia store as everything else was backordered...it turns out that I A) picked a bad time to build my first computer and B) have little patients/self control. I don't intend to mess with overclocking the card for a while so the FE sounds fine.

I did overclock the CPU somewhere in the 4.2 range, no issues and I haven't seen it get over 40c under load yet.

Crushes DOOM on nightmare settings at 2k. GSynch is pretty cool too, things have changed since I last played PC games.

Also just tried out the DK2 with some demos...huge improvement from my 2013 27in IMac.

I will be adding an NZXT Hue+ soon

Edit 4/8/18: Have triple 2k monitors now and will occasionally play games via nvidia surround on all monitors for games like 7 Days to Die. I also have the Oculus CV1 now, have added some USB 3.0 ports, a 2tb storage HDD and a second 500gb SDD.

How are your frames on that 1440p monitor? I am having a dilemma on whether i should get a 1440p monitor or 1080p monitor for the 1070.

I'm wondering the same.

The frame rates seem great however I haven't been checking the actual FPS super often because everything runs so damn well. Go for the 2K and Synch. Ill do some actual benchmarks in the next couple days and post what I get.

BF4 with Ultra settings at 2k gets a constant 90FPS

thanks for sharing i intend to build a very similar rig almost solely for BF4 and wanted to know how the cpu/gpu combo would run it. sweet!

I took off the small side table and mounted it to the file cabinet to fit both computers, its a solid table.

How is DayZ .60 update running on the 1070? Can you play it max settings with clouds and shadows? I am a huge fan of the game and saving up for a 1070. Thanks!

I have every setting maxed out at 2k and its super smooth, I don't think its dipped below 90fps once but I haven't made it to any big cities yet. Definitely worth it, you'll love it.

Nice build man. How are you liking the Dell monitor's colors compared to the iMac? Also what chair is that? It looks super sexy!

Thanks!

The iMacs display is really tough to beat but I do feel like the colors are a little more vibrant on the dell, I still prefer the iMac display for everything but games though.

Its a Lazy Boy office chair haha....my favorite chair in the house, better than my couch!
