Hi Guys,

First time poster, long time stalker.

Finally found the time to write up my build. After struggling with a gaming laptop(overheating and loud fan noise) I decided to finally get a new PC. Did lots of research to determine what parts to buy.

I decided to go HAM as I wanted a semi future proof machine.

CPU - i5 6600k More than enough power for what I needed(heavy gaming and moderate media use, will eventually be edition and creating videos). was thinking of getting i7 6700k but would be overkill. Not worth the extra £100.

CPU COOLER - be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 Took me ages to figure out what to go with but what can I say... this is a beast of a CPU cooler. The size of the cooler amazed me and super quiet (duh said from the name lol) I managed to overclock my CPU to 4.0ghz using MSI gaming app and temperature stays between 30-37 degrees.

Was abit pricey compared to the famous Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO but I didn't mind that. It looks so beasty!

Alternative I was going to go for a watercooled build but using FANs so much nicer in my opinion. Corsair H100i v2 would of been my choice.

This beast of a Cooler was a pain to install. Took me around 30min to install then I had to remove it again later to redo all the cabling. Never removing it again. LOL

MOTHERBOARD - MSI Z170A Gaming pro Carbon ATX Sexy looking motherboard. Did not need to buy this but I did because it semi suited my theme. (Black + Red) They have reinforced brackets for your GFX card which is a bonus.

MEMORY - Corsair Vengeance LPX 4x4GB Had to make sure I had to get low profile sticks for the CPU cooler. Lucky enough it fit. Red color suited my theme nicely even though you can hardly see them due to the CPU cooler lol.

STORAGE - SSD for OS HDD for Videos and Games. No brainer. Picked Samsung because of the name.

VIDEO CARD - MSI GTX 1070 This was a big decision to make out of all the parts. Took me couple weeks to decide what to buy. My first choice RX 480 because of the price, but im a NVIDIA fan boy so had to get the 1000 series.

Things I looked for when deciding. Price Looks Performance.

Price - I was abit concerned about the price for 1 part but YOLO, I guess im entering PC master race. Looks - MSI build looks amazing to me. Has LED as well which changes color. Corny but big plus for me. Was tempted to get AMP edition gtx 1070 but finding yellow parts for a build was troublesome. Performance - Im not gaming in 4k so no need for GTX 1080 this will do.

I wanted a future proof build. 1070 has enough power to last me couple years also I can SLI x2 1070 if needed.

CASE - Corsair Carbide 400C ATX Mid Tower I wanted a case with a side glass panel so I chose this one. Im also a Corsair FAN boy.

POWERSUPPLY - CORSAIR 550W Enough power to power my whole system. Not thinking about upgrading any time soon anyway.

Took me 3 hours to complete my finish build. Was a fun experience indeed. I recommend everyone to try out their first build low budget or high.

Note don't get Dark Pro 3 for your first build LOL.

CPU running stable at 3.5ghz normal. avg 30 degress GPU running at 40-55FPS on max settings playing OVERWATCH. avg 70 degress.

Now that everything is up and working, spend a little time on reworking those cables for a cleaner, tidier look.

I intend too! thanks!

a 1070 running only 40-55 FPS on Overwatch? Is that a typo. or am I missing something?

I agree. That sounds low to me too. I'm on a GTX 970 with a 1440p monitor and I get 65-80FPS with ultra settings in Overwatch.

That memory is a bit steep, I saw some vengeance LED ddr4-3000 for like 115. Other than that, great build!

Solid build

Not bad for a build. Keep up a little bit +1

Really cool build! I was looking for Dark Rock Pro 3 builds in this case and this happened to be quite recent! Definitely a giant cooler and surprisingly stands out more than the GPU. If I saw that in one of my friend's builds, that'd be the first thing I'd ask about. It has great performance though, so that's all that really matters, right?

If you drop your settings to low - Can you get beyond 60 FPS in Overwatch...This is taking into account you have a 144 Hrz Monitor.
