Description

It's like my childhood dream come true! Here it is, my first ever experience building a PC using my ang pao money from my relatives and cousins. Thanks to them for the past 10 years or so, I now have the budget for a gaming rig.

Mainly, this will be my main FPS gaming rig. Having a couple of laptops for gaming, I am not quite satisfied with how they performed. With the similar price with XPS13, I can get this gaming rig with a couple more hundred of dollars to spare for extra parts.

It took me nearly 6 hours to completely assemble the thing before booting it up, which is probably the most satisfying feeling in my life, aside of receiving those ang pao money.

It looks so beautiful. Seriously. Probably a subjective matter, but I love the minimalistic and monochrome kind of look, and S340 Elite is just so perfect with that theme.

Now, here's the interesting part, gaming performance. This thing cuts through demanding titles like glowing hot knife cutting through chocolate cake. This thing runs Battlefield 1 at 140 fps with all settings in ultra, and 200 fps for Wolfenstein The New Colossus. Counter-strike, however, doesn't go that well due to its CPU heavy optimisation with just 120 fps with maxed out settings. In proper competitive gaming session, I would probably lower the settings to achieve better gaming responsiveness.

I have to mention that this site helps me to make this rig possible for clarifying some of my echoing questions. Thank you guys, and thank you PC Part Picker. This site is awesome for PC building.

Part Reviews

CPU

Never be a bottleneck to my 1080 at all

CPU Cooler

Great appearance, great cooling. I can't ask for more. But it's slightly but on the expensive side.

Motherboard

Good: Great budget Z370 motherboard. Back I/O is good enough for mainstream users. Easy-enough BIOS setup with good fan curve modification.

Bad: Just hope there's a bit more internal USB connector, white LED isn't really white.

Storage

Blazing fast in every single thing it does. Just have Windows 10 run on this and your PC will be godly for at least a couple of years. It's amazing how it makes my PC runs really really fast.

Video Card

It eats every single AAA games at 100+ FPS with everything in ultra. This thing is a beast. But white LED isn't really white, it's pale lilac. Disappointing to see such simple flaw in such expensive GPU.

Thanks! The thing is, I cannot find the exact model of this monitor on this site. Its a 144hz 25" 1ms 1080p TN panel screen (KG251Q Fbmidpx).

Hi, Very nice build!

I've just built a new system with lower specs than you. And I thought I mention that I had low FPS in CSGO too. I was getting 120fps MAX.

I actually discovered that my RAM frequency was stuck on a default low frequency set by the MOBO. So I went into BIOS and changed to the correct frequency for my RAM and now Im getting 270-300FPS in csgo!

Thanks! I remembered that I applied XMP profile already, but I better recheck. Thanks for the tips!

any coil whine issue on 1080 while playing high fps games

termerys submitter 1 Build 1 point 4 months ago

I don't hear any unusual noises apart from all the fans I installed. But do mind that my aircon is always on, so I can barely hear anything at all.

How well does this work with the GTX 1080 ? any bottlenecking at all ?

termerys submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

I only notice bottleneck when playing SimCity 2013, which is very CPU intensive game. Other than that, it runs PUBG and BF1 @~140fps.
