A Worthy Upgrade

by Iwannanewpc

I built my first computer a few years back. It was a an AMD 860k, 8 GB of ram , and a r9 380 GPU. I learned alot and enjoy the pc but it was time for an upgrade. My goal was to build an overall great computer that could handle 1080p, 1440p, and maybe 4k gaming. It's not 100 percent but its a start.

AMD impressed me with their ryzen cpus. I was able to overclock mine to 4 GHz no problem. I wish the 1600x came with a stock cooler but I just used my old reliable H5. Cryorig sent me an AM4 bracket kit within a week. I wanted the msi pro carbon motherboard but the sli plus fit my needs. The ram is running at 2933 MHz right now and I like the design.

As far as upgrades go, I need a GPU asap. I'm waiting to see what Vega has to offer before making my decision. I want to get a better power supply and some sleeved cables to make it look nice.

Part Reviews

Great price/performance ratio.

Simple design and packed with plenty of features. The bios is easy to use and updates should continue to improve the ryzen platform.

you can get an rx470 for cheap now. I see them for $160 all the time. It is much more powerful than the 380. But if you want 1440p go for the 480. If you want 4k go fo the 1080 or the 1080ti. The 1070 can do light 4k but i would not recomend it. The 1070 is a great 1440p card.

I want a 1070/1080 or an AMD equivalent.

AMD does not currently have an equivalent. If you want an AMD card wait for Vega.

I'm in the same boat, hoping that amd will one day launch vega. only i have a dual core laptop with only the pentium igpu inside. currently waiting on vega

I honestly do not think there is a reason to put pff building a system just so you can get vega. It is like waiting to get a new car even though the one you have is unuseable.

well i just "upgraded" to an older intel core 2 duo cpu but added a gt 640 so ... I'm limping along slightly faster now
