Description

A upgrade to my first build InicialPC, Upgrade1. All to this upgrade2

Wanted to make it look better.

Also wanted a smaller case which the Fractal Design C came out perfect.

Picture with a 180mm PSU at the end for those that want to see if a long PSU would fit. (Yes) Picture with Hyper 212 too if someone want to know how would it look like

EVGA GTX 1070 has been OC with Core clock +215Mhz, and Memory clock +550Mhz, with max temps on 70C

I was able to achieve +235 and even +255, with +260 it crash the bench marks and Core clock go to approximately ~2120, but come back to ~2050, 2080 so I lower it to +215 on Core. Memory haven't try getting it higher but that was pretty good where I got it on.

5/17/2016 CPU, haven't OC yet, looking for time to OC it and be able to test it uninterrupted, so I can monitor it. (looking forward of spring break to may be do it.)

CPU cooler pretty good, idle at ~27C, <30C, and Max out at ~58, ~62. Decide Push pull, just why not. but I don't know who temps are with only one fan. I put both of them at the same time so... well it looks good and temps are good. Since I have both I keep fans at 10% and still keep temps at ~27C idle, and 55% ~60C full load. So I have headroom to OC.

Fractal Design C is really silent on Idel, on Load it make some noise but barely noticeable.

Part Reviews

CPU

Great CPU, have it for almost a year now, and finally had chance to OC it. Manage to get this little thing and OC of 4.6Ghz with 4.3 Cache using 1.330V Later set it to offset +90 which keep my CPU stable. If I had a AIO I would try to push it harder but that seems for me to be the sweet spot for now.

CPU Cooler

Great looking CPU cooler, a good upgrade over the Hyper 212.

Motherboard

Great looking motherboard, has all features I I would like, and compatible with 6700k out of the box

Case

Great looking case, small and capable to fit ATX motherboards. Also great compatibility with close loops coolers

Power Supply

Small and really efficient PSU. like the modular cables.

Case Fan

got like 3C to 5C decreases on CPU using push pull

why u opened the GPU ?

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

I was adding the thermal pads that EVGA send me, so I change the paste while on it.

JuiceKingsRevenge 2 points 11 months ago

Thank you so much for choosing that motherboard. I was really interested in it but couldn't find many builds using it with a clean aesthetic design. I really appreciate it looks awesome

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

No problem. I was looking for a nice looking black and white board that fill all the holes for the case (no a small ATX board like I had before). What set me up completly (besides the $20 Mail and Rebate, was this videos from Salazar Studio, Tech Deals, and Tech City. At the end I like it a lot. haven't touch the OC but it looks pretty simple. (I just need time to OC and test, I'll do that another time.

JuiceKingsRevenge 1 point 11 months ago

Yeah I was all over those videos. I mainly liked it for looks

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

Yeah that sold me too. I was looking at MSIZ270Tomahawk too but, the Asrock had more features than The MSI. Power delivery for the CPU was better and it also support crossfire and sli, dividing lanes on single GPU x16, 2 GPUs on x8 x8, which the MSI didn't. And Others That I dont remember.

JuiceKingsRevenge 1 point 11 months ago

It was cheaper but I planned for a white and blue theme and this fit perfectly, needed a build that portrayed this theme as close as possible so I knew I was in the right choice. The tomahawk has a very weird look to it that i didnt like

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Same the whole white thing make me wanting to get it, but the Asrock have a nice looking and the X on it make it look really cool. plus the white sides look nice. So yeah the Asrock was the go for me. (Almost two weeks on using it, and no problems so far, so good motherboard)

Beautiful build. It's clean, not overly colorful, and the chess pieces are a wonderful, minimalistic touch.

+1, and hoping for the feature.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Thanks, and if I ever see me on feature, I will screenshot it and add it to the gallery of pictures here.

Beautiful build! +1

Pacemaker13 1 Build 2 points 11 months ago

How do you mounted the fans underneath the GPU? Do you get lower temps?

Really cool and clean build, i have the little brother of your case ;) +1

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

I bought GELID Solutions SL-PCI-02 120mm PCI Slot Fan When I was still using my first build here which had a 960 on it and it actually help it cold down a bit like 3-5 C, but with the 1070 it makes no difference to be honest. I left it there after making the changes so it will push the hot air of the GPU up and suck by the rear fan. Temps are pretty good even with this small case. I also left it for aesthetic reasons, looks good.

RhettRO55 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Shiro Kabocha!!! +1

Senzis 11 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Clever touch with the chess pieces.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Thanks. I had a set of small chess pieces laying around, and I took only the silver ones, to match with the GPU.

I really like the selection of black and white motherboards for the 200 series. You really can't go wrong with any of them! Looks great!

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

This time the z270 board have better looking than some z170 boards for about the same price. I was looking on using the MSI tomahawk. A full white board but the features on this ASRock board were better and the black board with white X centered had a appeal. I just wish the CPU cooler didn't cover it that much. But it still looks good. Thanks for the complement.

holy nice pics man

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Thanks. I took a lot but I pic only this. If I had more lighting were I was I would take them Abit different. Well great that you like them. Thanks again.

khaled657 1 point 11 months ago

No problem :)

DeathToaster45 1 point 11 months ago

I love the build. I recently bought my Define C and I am about to start my build. Quick question, can you refer me to the clear clips you used to keep the PCI cables nice and straight? I love the sharp clean look.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 2 points 11 months ago

Thanks, appreciated. In regards with the cable combs, I use the ones that came with the cable extensions I use for the white set of cables. I search some and I found this that looks alike the ones Im using. There are other colors as well if you are going for an aesthetic combination.

Extensions

arcadeforest 1 point 11 months ago

I have recently bought the Define C as well. Looking at putting it together in the next week or so. Wondering what lights did you use? I'm trying to decide what and how many / length to go with. With that said great looking build - hope mine comes out half as good.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

Thanks. Pictures 1, 4, 11, 13 and 19

The Define C it is indeed a really nice case with a lot of compatibilities. If it has a temper glass it would be amazing, but still it is really small ATX support case. For light, I actually didn't went for really expensive light since when I first started my PC I didn't had enough for like the Hue+, so I pick eBay lights that connect using usb and are 100cm was enough for going to the sides and top edge of the case(no bottom lights), if you look closely on pictures 1, 4 and 11 you can see the white cable of the light going by the pci of the bottom fans (kind off squeeze it there) and on picture 13 and 19 you can see how it is connected. (they do have RGB connectivity but didn't try connecting to the RGB header of the Motherboard) It comes with a remote control (need to buy battery)

arcadeforest 1 point 11 months ago

Thanks for info - looking to basically do the same thing as the motherboard I'm using has plenty of lights but I do not believe to light up the case. Would like to have a nice white (or close to white) light that would illuminate the case while leaving the motherboard light a steady blue, or green, or whatever color. Thanks again and I will check those ebay lights out.

cam9819 1 point 11 months ago

what did you use for the white cables?

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 11 months ago

To hold them I use a cable comb that came with the cables. You can look around for a set or buy them individually and on different colors.

If the set of cables, those are Phanteks cable extensions the combs come with the cables

RodoGodo19 8 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Hi, The two fans that you have installed under the GPU, what model are those? and how did you install them, what tool do you used, I don't get it, I would like to do the same.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Hi. I bought GELID Solutions SL-PCI-02 120mm PCI Slot Fan The PCI bracket for the fans and holder all come with this Gelid fans (fans are 3 pins)

When I was still using my initial build here which had a 960 on it and it actually help it cold down a bit like 3-5 C and help push the hot air up so the top exhaust would get it faster, but with the 1070 it makes no difference to be honest and I don't have to exhaust anymore. I left it there after making the changes so it will push the hot air of the GPU up and suck by the rear fan. Temps are pretty good even with this small case. I also left it for aesthetic reasons, looks good.

jalanka 1 point 10 months ago

Is there an annoying red light on your Asrock board? I don' t see them on your board. How did you manage to set the red light off? I have this problem on my board

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Actually, there is the red light. Look closely at the first picture. The light got cover by the fans but is still there. (I still dont know how to get rid of it)

jalanka 1 point 10 months ago

Does it shine bright? I'm gonna buy an tempered glass case so it is important to me. Does it lit up your whole room? Or is it not that bright?

RodoGodo19 8 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Hi, Can I know how are yous temps with the H5 and two fans?, I want to do the same, I have the H5 but, I want to know what differences does it make having a second fan installed.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

I apologize if I can help you, but I did it right at the beginning so I don't know how the temps would have been with one fan. (I dont have the Cooler anymore so I can't help you any further)

RodoGodo19 8 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Hi, you don't remember what was your temps before you sold the H5?.

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

I actually have a notes so I was able to compare with the Deepcool before switching. BTW the 6700k was OC at 4.6Ghz with 1.330Vcore (switch to Offset mode to keep voltage low when idling +90 offset)

Aida 64 stress for 2 hrs

---C-----Min-----Max-----Ave

CPU ------66 ------73 ----- 69.5

Core 1 -----55 ------80 ----- 65.7

Core 2 -----52 ------79 ----- 64.5

Core 3 -----50 ------75 ----- 60.2

Core 4 -----48 ------76 ----- 61.9

Prime95, IBT and Realbench I use HW monitor C--Core0, 1, 2, 3 (all 4 cores)

Realbench Stress 2hrs 16gb MAX Package 84C Core0--84C Core1--84C Core2--78 Core3--81

But with that one temps in average are like 2C-3C under. those were the max I got

Prime95 V26.6 MAX Package 84C Core0--84C Core1--82C Core2--79 Core3--81

IBT MAX Package 89C Core0--89C Core1--88C Core2--86C Core3--85

I seriously hope you see this but where did you put the wifi card in the build i don't see it in there in the pics?

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

oh yeah about that I completely forgot to change that card on the part list. The motherboard has a m.2 expansion on the near the IO, under the IO cover were I can put a m.2 wifi card Right know I have taken out and using Ethernet so I cannot show you in a picture how it would look like.

TheLightOwl 1 point 8 months ago

Show it has m.2 wifi? And thank you for the very quick reply very helpful :).

Gian07 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

yeah it has. here on Other Slots

"1 x M.2 Socket (Key E), supports type 2230 WiFi/BT module"

No Problem.

TheLightOwl 1 point 7 months ago

Sorry i didnt anwser. Was or for the weekend. Do you have a link the " type 2230 WiFi/BT module" you used that would be great. :)

TheLightOwl 1 point 7 months ago

Nevermind i found it. Ty for the helpful information again. :)
