Description

My monster build which I started working on since October but have been researching it since last Summer. There is a build log on forums.overclockers.co.uk called Ramthor's Monster Build where you can see a lot of pictures from the making of for anyone interested. Performance wise currently it is on the 10th place on 3DMark Hall of Fame for 2 GPUs but initially was on the 9th place. (screenshot provided). I'll come back later with details if needed.

Thank you all for you appreciation! It is a dream come true for me and I hold it even more dear as I've built it myself. My background has nothing to do with PC building but I've put all my energy into building this and I'm happy with the result. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and may all your dreams come true!

Stuff like this just amazes me. I was overly cautious and nervous when installing my AIO cooler. Doing this would have me sweating bullets and they'd find me keeled over from a heart attack and there'd just be the CPU block installed and nothing else done.

Bravo, you crazy builder.

The most nerve wracking was modifying the Titans for water cooling and knowing I was messing with £2,200 and a lost warranty. I've never been more concentrated in my entire life! lol

Dude holy crap. Those EKWB Titans look perfect

can you say OVERKILL... but can it run MINECRAFT

  • 1 point

Forget Minecraft, will it run Excel AND Word AND Powerpoint (and not just any Powerpoint presentation, one with graphics!) simultaneously??? That's the REAL benchmark.

But can it run Minesweeper at full FPS

Bunch of poor haters here too.

Ramthor, I am pretty sure you can ignore these comments from a few. Something they will never have the opportunity to want or have and they respond in the negative way they do.

I always say, it is your money, spend it as you please. Yours was on a monster system, congrats :)

Now, are you going to settle for just #9 position?? What would you do differently to run another higher score??

If you have the money then enjoy it! Very nicely done. I really like the two independent water loops.

The rest of us will just have to slum it with the 1 average gpu and a single aio :)

  • 2 points

That is the most beautiful PC I've ever seen :') SLI'd Titan X's is not something I thought I would ever see.

Just one thing, I would swap out some of the red fans for blue, to match the different water cooler tubes.

  • 2 points

Make your 3rd image your header image. Also this is awesome. My build is almost complete and wanted to jump up to the 6950X but I stayed with the 6800k. and 1 Titan :D but watercooling FTW this is sweet. Bunch of poor haters here too.

When I saw that the top end of the price filter for the completed builds was well over £10,000, I had to see what madness occurred at this price bracket. Particularly since ordering all the parts for a new build only a few hours ago for near £1600. Every purchase hurt a little more than the last. Not sure I was expecting to see such a work of art. You have built one beautiful monster on a budget most can only dream of. It's so gorgeous, I'm surprised you'd ever look at the screen. Bravo!

  • 1 point

one question: 2 titan x's but a 1440p 100hz monitor. Pretty sure you could pull off 4k with this beast XD

  • 2 points

Because I quite like Ultra Wide resolution and also high frame rates will lots of eye candy enabled. My plan from the beginning was to pull at least 100 FPS average on the games I'm interested in so I can justify the monitor's refresh rate.

because it features all thing Asus products

and yes there is a JaysTwoCent vibe in the build as well

except his has GTX1080 vs your Titan XPs

I am still scratching my head as why the top spot is a 980Ti config???

Amazing build. However, you really should get a bigger desk. That tower looks out of place on top of that small thing.

  • 1 point

It's a 160x160cm desk I ordered specifically for this build. It's the case and monitor that are huge making it look small. I still have plenty of space left but I do wish I'd have ordered the 180x180 version.

  • 1 point

Why did you buy the Oculus Rift instead of the HTC Vive?

  • 1 point

According to my research they are both about the same performance wise so it comes down to personal preference in choosing one over the other. In my case was the fact that Oculus is easier to set-up, lighter, better optimization for the games I'm interested in, available on Amazon with next day delivery, cheaper without controllers (but I ended up buying them anyway).

  • 1 point

you made a good move

I heard the HTC Vive 2 might be coming real soon

they are launching it in CES next month

  • 1 point

...but the games are much worse and the business practices of Oculus can only be called disgusting.

  • 1 point

Amazing beast. Maybe time to spend a few bucks into the desktop setup & cable management? You won't believe how important putting your machine into a virtual pedestal is. Large desk, led backlight, all cables hidden, and you'll enjoy sitting at your desk so much you'll even sleep there :D

  • 1 point

Why these parts? What do you use this system for? How the hell do you afford all that? Not saying this is bad just curious.

My only question is how the guy with the i7-5960X and 2x GTX 980 Ti's get first place in the hall of fame.

Other thing was why did you use a 950 Pro instead of a 960 Pro or an Intel 750?

Other than that +1 for overpriced monster of a build that I would love to have on my desk.

  • 1 point

Thumbs up.

Also I have a question too. Would a 60mm thick rad fit into the basement with 5.25" devices installed there as well? As I can see here, you clearly managed to squeeze in a 560mm x 56mm thick rad down there.

Great build. I am planning on making something similar with two loops in a SMA8. I have one question: did you purchase two radiator mounting brackets from Caselabs? It looks like that might be the case, I just want to make sure.

A mobo waterblock may be ?

  • 2 points

or an ssd waterblock

  • 2 points

Practically pointless

  • 3 points

But it would be funny

  • 1 point

Indeed!

  • 1 point

Actually specifically with the 950 Pro it wouldnt be pointless as that SSD can thermal throttle. Sticking a heatsink on it would work as well.

  • -1 points

AFAIK SSD water blocks would help with consistency of SSD clock rates, correct? Isn't that currently one of the limiting factors on some NVME SSD's in combination with cases or motherboards (like the ASUS Maximus VIII's heat shield). I feel like the difference would be negligible in terms of ineligible differences but you could certainly see the stability in synthetic benchmarks. Once Im home I'll find a link to the article or video or whatever that I had seen a little while ago that I got all this info from.

  • 1 point

Yeah specifically with the 950 Pro it can help because it can throttle under heavy sustained use, it depends on the specific SSD. For the 960 series they improved the thermal performance so that this isn't as much of an issue.

  • 2 points

Not necessary though

  • 1 point

Subjectively, none of this is particularly necessary. But it's possible, EKWB made a block for this mobo, so why not? :D

  • 1 point

Very true. I know it's possible XD overkill but I mean I think we could all use a bit more overkill in our PCs

  • 1 point

That block was not available at the time when I started ordering components. I did consider a full mb block but that meant taking out some of the shielding of the MB and its pretty lights.
