Description

This was originally supposed to be an i7 Coffee lake build for $2200 but recently a lot has changed like Asrock saying coffee lake will not be compatible with Z270 boards and also a lot of my parts have changed. This Pc is going to be used for some 3D modeling/ game development and 1440p 144Hz and also Triple monitor gaming. (This is my first personal build)

My case is a DeepCool Genome II but I lightly modded it to have a different look than most Genomes like a red strip down the middle and red fans instead of the white. I was going to do more because I was thinking of water cooling and I would have had to mod a little to get it to work in this case but I didn't like the management I would have to do if I did do it and I don't like the look of a GPU with a water block, so I scratched that idea off.

CPU :

For my CPU I was going to get an i7 8700k but since intel has gotten me angry I'm no longer going to use it and I'm going to return my motherboard and get an r7 1700, I choose this because of what I will be doing with this Pc, I really wanted the extra cores and threads that I would get if I went with an i7. Also, it is at Microcenter for a really good price of $280. I'm also planning on over clocking this to maybe around 4.1Ghz.

CPU Cooler :

My case came with this water cooler and since my old computer died I bought a G4560 for now and the temps aren't bad and it's not loud at all, also it looks nice and I hope it can give me some good temps when I over clock. I've seen some reports of people having leaking problems with this cooler and I hope that doesn't happen to me later so when I finish my Pc and if it leaks I will change my thoughts on the Cooler and the case.

Motherboard :

I choose this motherboard because of 4 reasons which are. 1. It looks nice and the RGB features can give me the extra personalization I want. 2. I like the ports it has on the back and I really like that already applied IO Sheild. 3. It has 2 M.2 Nvme slots which I need because I'm planning on getting a good cheap M.2. 4. Also, Its has all the bells and whistle that can come on a motherboard so it's nice and I love getting little extras with my boards.

Since I bought a Z270 board thinking that Coffee lake was going to be compatible I will be returning it and get this one but it was a good board (Asus Z270-E Strix) for what I have seen.

Memory :

This is the most recent part I have gotten. It looks good and feels really high quality which it should be since it is more expensive than most 16GB ram sticks. I have seen these things on and they are bright and the colors are really vibrant. I have heard some people having problems with the software, like it making there DIMMs go black and other things. If this happens to me I will make sure to update this. I got this for a good price on Newegg like two weeks ago and it cost me $139 which I think is good for this speed and RGB features (Although it will be red for most of the time).

PS. I'm going to upgrade to 32gb later down the line

SSD :

Ok, I have two SSD, one is the Mushkin Reactor 1TB and the other is the Corsair Force MP500 120GB. I bought the Corsair Force MP500 3 months ago and the reason I bought it is that since I like making games with Unreal Engine I want to have a different drive just for my custom games. I don't like when my files are all over the place so this SSD is just for Unreal nothing else. The Mushkin Reactor is going to be my boot drive and my game storage. I'm probably going to have my big games like GTA 5 and Battlefield on this drive. I have only heard good things about this drive so I think I will be happy when I purchase this.

HDD :

I got this just for extra storage just in case my 1TB SSD gets full. It's 2TBs it fast according to people who own it and reliable. Bought it for $69 which I think is a good price for 2TBs with these speeds. If this gets full I have my eyes on the 6TBs Iron Wolf HDD from Seagate which is overkill but this Pc is over kill anyway.

GPU :

I have my eyes on this Asus GTX 1080 Ti non-oc version. This is the next part I am planning to buy and I am excited for this I have only had low and mid end GPUs and I can't wait to see what this thing can do. Like I said at the beginning I'm going to be playing at 1440p 144Hz. I don't think I'm going to get 144fps in most games but I want to see if I will see a big difference between 60Hz and 144Hz.

Power Supply :

For the Power Supply, I'm planning on buying the Corsair Hx 750w 80+ Platinum. You might think this is overkill for my specs but In the future, I might need it, you never know. I'm also getting some custom sleeved cables from cable mods. I'm going to get some Black and Red cables. I think the cables are a little too expensive I'll end up spending around $100 just on cables. Also, I got this for easier cable management.

This is my first build and I will be updating this every time I do something important to it. Have a good day :D

PS - The pictures are not in order of when they were done!

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

My case came with this water cooler right now I'm using a G4560 and the temps aren't bad and it's not loud at all, also it looks nice and I really hope the temps will still be good once I overclock my r7 1700. I've seen some reports of people having leaking problems with this cooler and It hasn't happened to me so, If it does I'll update this.

Memory

Its memory and it does its job, no complaints except that the software is buggy and I had to use Asus aura to control it. Also, the lights are bright.

Storage

It's fast for what I'm doing which is moving pretty big files, and it doesn't seem to get that hot. Runs out of space fast

Storage

It's fast has a lot of space and makes little to no noise from what I hear.

Operating System

It's good stuff.

Case Fan

Quiet and moves a lot of air what else can you say about a fan

Your Motherboard In The Picture Is Not The Same As The One In Your Parts List

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I know I mention it in the motherboard section in the description saying that was my old board when I was going to do a coffee lake build

Mikey0502 1 point 3 months ago

Oh okay

Axe5396 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

The bottom LEDS make it look like lava.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Yeah I noticed that too, wasn't going for that affect but it looks cool. :)

Bosswoman3 2 points 3 months ago

Good work on the build. Looks like the video card was the most expensive thing on the list.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Yeah, It is but I hope it's worth it. :)

Bosswoman3 2 points 3 months ago

I hope so too

Hxswartwood 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

How exactly did you go about the red stripe I have the same case (the green one though) and I love that look! I kinda want to copy it lol I just posted my Hulk build in this case

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I covered the sides of the case with paper and tape and did 4 paint coats and it came out pretty well. Although it's hard to cover the glass water reservoir and the little holes on the case. :D

Ruru8076 2 points 3 months ago

Are you able to change the rgb memory via Aura sync ? Did you have any problems to make it run at 3000 ? Great build btw ! +1

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Yeah you can change the memory through aura and no I just turned on xmp and it got to 3000mhz and don't have any problems :)

manchildjr 3 Builds 2 points 3 months ago

I love it. I love these cases. Got on sitting in the back room in waiting. Was just wondering why you didn't change the other white fan on your rad. Also have you seen the Genome II ROG?

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I am going to change the middle fan to a red one the white is just for now. And yes I saw the Genome ROG but when I bought this it wasn't out yet, also it was a bit too expensive. :)

manchildjr 3 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I was just saying it kind of sucks. You go to do something to make it stand out and then it becomes a thing.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

What should I do something to?

skyrise 2 points 1 month ago

Great build, but you kind of overspent on the Crosshair VI Extreme. ASRock X370 Taichi has lighter BIOS, better RAM compatibility, lower VRM temps and power consumption and is only half the price. You could have gotten an R7 1800X/1700X with the extra money. The R7 1700 maxes out at around 3.8-3.85GHz and 1.325-1.38V.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

Well now I don't even think Im going to go with the r7 anymore, my budget just increased a couple thousand so I think I'm going to go even higher than this

skyrise 2 points 1 month ago

Oh really? Check out these example builds:

Good luck with the upgrade. Will be nice to see a dual liquid cooled RX Vega 64 - it will be the first on the website if you do it.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

Thanks :)

ArmyRider90 6 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I like it man. Nice clean build. Should definitely last you a while. I was thinking of getting that cooler how is it working for you? My Lepa keeps it at pretty good temps so I can't find a reason to make the jump at the moment

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

It's a good cooler, it's not the best at cooling but for the price, It's still pretty good, right now I'm using the g4560 and on idle it's 40c and quiet so if you just want a solid water cooler I would get it. Also, it looks cool :)

ArmyRider90 6 Builds 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah I thought it looked great and would go well with my white case. I'll probably wait till my next build for it though.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

They also have an RGB version which could work also (wish I had that one instead lol)

ArmyRider90 6 Builds 2 points 3 months ago

Ah ok. I thought there was a light in the one I was looking at.

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

No, the liquid is just red, but it does look like a light in the dark because of the other lights

Anyansayo 1 point 3 months ago

This is great. I think that it is a good thing that you didn't waste your money on a more expensive R7 model (Which people do all the time) because there is no difference if at the same frequency. Very good choice on parts and very nice build. (And description)

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Thanks, I was looking at the performance difference of the 1700 and 1700x and it was non-existent, I also get a free cooler in case something happens to my current one :)

Just_A_PC 1 point 1 month ago

When you will complete the build? Love the build really very good build Also I think this is the only with this motherboard Excellent motherboard by the way Good luck with your build !

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

I have no idea when Im going to finish it but thanks :)

Just_A_PC 0 points 1 month ago

OK no problem good luck :)

Shotta06 1 Build 0 points 3 months ago

I dont understand. You have a genome with BUILT in AIO so why do you have one on your parts list?

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

I just put it on to show which one I have and also so PC part picker knows whats compatible when I'm doing changes and stuff. :)

manchildjr 3 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

That way people can find builds with this case since the case isn't compatible with the sites building system,

crazymango555 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

That too. :D
