Description

So I've been waiting to build my Oculus/Vive Virtual Reality rig until now, close to launch. I've had the GTX 970 in my old PC, and will just use it for now until the next-gen Pascal video cards come out (since it meets the VR specs for now just fine).

I know what you're thinking, this guy color-themed this out. But nope, actually the best parts just happened to be the same color schemes.

I will say I LOVE this Phanteks EVOLV case! What a joy to put this together, and it made wire management a no-brainer. It's not cheap, but well worth the price. It's so roomy, without being as big as a full tower case (which is too big for my taste).

So one concern I had was whether the Corsair H110 i GTX cooler would fit into the case without being too close to the RAM, as another user said he thought they were. But I am happy to report that with the TridentZ's height it was not a problem at all.

I've got a small overclock going at 4.5Ghz, will go higher if I feel the need to later. And the 950 Pro M.2 drive is INSANE-fast, I can copy a 1GB file to/from itself and it's instant, as in the copy screen doesn't even appear...crazy.

Oculus Rift pre-orders open tomorrow...see you in the future! █-)

Beautiful build love the part selection, theme, and especially the case. Good choice on your build and good luck on your VR experience.

Quality build! I'm just about to start a similar build in the Phanteks case and would love your advice on how you've got the fans setup? Do you have your Corsair as an intake or exhaust?

Thanks! I went with exhaust since heat rises. But you could easily do either. You could likely put it as a front intake, but I didn't want to waste that nice top slide-out spot made for it.

Yeah makes sense but doesn't it create negative pressure in the case? There are a couple of nice builds on here with the Corsair as a front intake. Will see where the build takes me tomorrow when I start! Thanks for your help.

Very nice build! I like the color coordination of black/gray with red/white accents. I'm doing a similar build with yours except in the Evolv mATX, with the 6600K, Gene VIII, TridentZ, 750 P2, and 850 EVO 500GB!

PS: I also like your Christmas Tree :)

Thank you! My sister will appreciate the tree comment since she was the mastermind of that build. :p

Good luck with your build too!

Thanks for sharing your build and pics - beautiful build! especially like the fact that you accidentally got that nice red theme going! Great cable management too.

It's strange because I too am building a system for my Oculus with a few of the exact same parts. I skimped a little on the SSD and went with the 850 EVO 500GB but the processor, cooling system and video card are all exactly the same. Glad to hear your system is running smoothly with that cooling system even at 4.5Ghz. Did you get your Rift pre-order in at 8AM? Hopefully mine will be shipping at the end of March with the 1st batch.

Thank you very much! And yes, my order is in the March category as well. See you in the rift!

Well did you pre-order it or did you get scared off by the price tag?

I pre-ordered. It's a steal at that price.
