Description

This was my first desktop in a very long time (my last one was about 10 years ago, an old stock HP tower that didn't even have internet), and my first computer build. It cost me about $1,600 total, most of my pay from the year I spent working at Chick-Fil-A.

I was a bit nervous about putting it together, but it all worked out and I'm very happy with the results. I use the Shard mostly for gaming, but also for my college work and general web browsing. (Fun fact: I named it after the skyscraper from Mirror's Edge, one of my favorite games, because I couldn't think of a better name.)

Huge thanks to r/pcmasterrace for their list of builds. They convinced me that building my own computer was both possible and preferable, and the Shard is basically a tricked-out version of their "End-All" build.

If he doesn't need the desk for anything else besides a keyboard and a mouse, that desk is fine. :)
