Description

You may notice some parts do not have prices next to them. This is because my wife received an NZXT combo pack off their site during the Christmas sale season somehow. This helped a lot.

White. That's pretty much all my wife told me when she said she would love to have her own gaming computer. Of course this was good for me, because that means she would be spending less time on mine at the end of the day. It just so happens she tells me what she wants around the same time Asus announced their new Sabertooth Z170 "S" board. It's rather pretty, I'll give them that.

Finding the other parts to match was pretty straight forward. Since my PC is used as the home media server and plex machine, this one would not need the 6700k, so the 6600k was the logical choice. I was on a bit of a budget, as whatever the feds decided was an appropriate tax refund would be used (after paying off some bills).

Looking around I ran into Crucial Ballistic Sport LT series DDR4. This was recently released in a white camo - perfect. This wasn't so easy to find, though.

Galax was the logical choice for the GPU, since they are the only ones that make a truly white graphics card right now. Although I will confess the PCB is black, the fact that the fans, shroud, and backplate match the motherboard was good enough for me.

Since I also had to work in a $300 Ikea purchase of a new computer desk, chair, and carpet mat, I knew funds were going to be tight. So I went cheap with the rest of the build. The OCZ SSD used the colors I wanted and has reasonably good performance, and the Asus monitor is OK. My wife is not necessarily a photographer, but just wanted this to play some online MMO and MOBA games, she said she likes it. The keyboard was a similar affair, she liked it, enough said.

Is this computer sponsored?

Because it seems to have a lot of 'fans' ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

+1 XD

That's not a shortened link... Shortened links go to an ad service that pays me money, which I don't use at all. I use PCPP's basic mechanic of making text represent the link, so it looks less 'messy.'

Funny man. She wanted a white themed build after using my black and yellow themed computer for awhile.

madpossum 5 Builds 5 points 24 months ago

Nice, I love the "artic cameo" on the new Sabertooth.

DexterW 11 Builds 4 points 24 months ago

Great job, Best all one color build Ive seen. That white looks amazing!

digah2750 3 points 24 months ago

That GPU is amazing looking O_O +1 for that and the build

Ropota 2 points 24 months ago

I know building that ikea computer desk took way longer to put together than that pc lol. You should get two +1's just for that.

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 3 points 24 months ago

Having the table top itself strapped to the top of my car in a cold rain storm, wrapped in a tarp was certainly the highlight of getting this all together.

shadowbyte918 4 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

aha! Join the white and black build club! I even used the same NZXT led's as you have in your s340. But damn, that looks nice, especially with the white sabertooth.

mikedopanda 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Oh gosh. That is CLEAN. Nice work brotha! I'm sure the wifey is loving it.

acezone 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Nice build! planning also for my wife, 'cause she's complaining that my 5 year old "gaming" laptop is getting laggy on some games and that's why I recently built my skylake rig. Also going for a budget 6600k, CR H7 and S340 combo, the white ram sticks looks sexy I might try to find me some of those.

CDUB03 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

I would add some custom white sleeved power cables or extensions. Overall great looking build love that Sabertooth board wish they had one for X99.

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I'm looking at that next - how well are Cablemod's sleeved cables? Do you have any recommendations?

someta 4 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

I have Silverstone ones on WS-1, but get cable combs too. You really do need them, extensions don't look all that good without them. I need to order some myself.

Here are the pictures of the extensions in the packaging and in the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/7rFdnQ

KB_Evolved 5 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

CableMod only makes sleeved cables for the EVGA G2 as of a couple months ago. EVGA makes sleeved cables for the G2 and GS but the GQ is really new and semi modular so I doubt they release any for it. The GQ, G2, GS aren't interchangable as far as cables go since all 3 are made by a different OEM( FSP, Super Flower, Seasonic)

What you can do it just buy sleeved cable extensions and do a lot of tucking behind the Mobo. It will look just as good in that case because of the PSU Shroud. I'm not entirely sure as what brand to recommend as I've never used them. If you're really ambitious you could always buy the necessary things and do it yourself. That'd be time consuming though and require you to take the PSU completely out so I wouldn't do it. I bet your Wife would be very appreciative, though.

Cable combs are very cheap but break very easily. Buy 2x as many as you need so if/when you break a couple you don't run out.

A little research and it looks like Silverstone(Like Someta mentioned) is a good option and one of the few for White sleeved extensions. It's well worth the money though, especially for your Wifes white out build. Will probably cost 40-50 all together for cables and combs. About 8 for PCI-E and CPU and 12 for 24pin mobo on Amazon for the white Silverstone Tek sleeved cable extensions.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=Silverstone+sleeved+cables+white+&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3ASilverstone+sleeved+cables+white+

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

These look very nice - I'll probably end up buying end some.

Thank you!

CDUB03 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

They are about $100 dollars. http://www.performance-pcs.com sells them. Email them what power supply you have and they should be able to tell you what will work with your system. I have bought a bunch of stuff from their site. If you want to go cheaper you could just get extensions. Newegg.com sells them. Good luck!

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks, I'm probably just going with extensions anyway, since the S340 hides most of the cables anyhow.

MuDuRkKiO 1 point 24 months ago

Ohhh the all important "Wife's Stamp of Approval" +1

brodosaur 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

I hope they make aftermarket thermal armor, for the Sabertooth S, like the Z97 variant did. Really well done! +1

gorkti200 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Great looking all white build! Well done. I have the Octane version of that CM keyboard/mouse combo. It's a good combo for budget friendly builds. They aren't going to "wow" anybody but they get the job done.

Also +1 for Galax card, I feel like they're pretty underrated/unknown.

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Their relative obscurity is because they only sell direct. I suppose this keeps the supply chain pretty tight. From everything I've read, they're only warehouse North America is in the outskirts of Chicago (where this card shipped). Shipping was $13, and it was here in 3 days. Not to bad.

AfterPein 1 point 24 months ago

Good looking build! I'd build this for myself, but change the case. Just a personal thing.

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

What case would you use?

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I would personally use a black case to contrast with the white interior. Like the Fractal Design S.

AfterPein 1 point 23 months ago

Maybe a Corsair 380T or 760T, even a C70. Personally don't like that case.

maddog62 1 point 24 months ago

Nice job! Happy wife = happy life (most of the time) ... ;>D

I but that would look nicer with a neon multi-colored lighting strip in it.

Battlefield 1 point 24 months ago

White GPU!! They gotta make more of them.

msquare 4 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Your wife is one lucky woman, nice build btw.

ulgress 1 point 24 months ago

I'm a little jealous you beat me to having the first build with the arctic sabertooth on here. It's really hard to get one and I am just waiting on other parts to populate my computer but already have it. I thought I had a head start! Either way, gorgeous computer, and I hope your wife is happy with how it turned out!

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I think they showed up on newegg out of nowhere a couple weeks ago. They were also on like the third page when searching asus + z170. I thought they would drop with a little more fanfare than that.

Gooberdad 7 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Beautifully done. +1

ShadsPeopleBuilds 1 point 24 months ago

I actually despise the color white for my personal PC's, but DAAAYUM this thing looks sexy. Nice job! Hope the wife's happy :D

zixiss 1 point 24 months ago

You need this keyboard/mouse instead ;)

http://www.razerzone.com/licensed-and-team-peripherals/razer-blackwidow-team-clg

I have the keyboard and it really does look that good. Don't know about the mouse.

But nice work.

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

That is a nice keyboard. I'll look into it.

Unuvailiable 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I love the way the GALAX card looks! I'm surprised that galax cards are not mainstream (at least not as much as other brands like evga, msi, asus, etc.) because generally they look really nice

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

To clarify: I bought the card directly from them: galaxstore.net.

It ships out of Chicago if you are shipping to anywhere in NA.

They charge around $13 for shipping, and it was here in about 2.5 days, nicely wrapped and packaged.

They aren't popular because they don't go through traditional marketing channels (at least for sales in the US and Canada), but instead sell direct.

Hushbuild 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Its cause they are mainly a european retailer i think. We get all the good brands:p

Unuvailiable 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

That's what I was thinking. And yeah we do hah

MafiatechTeam 1 point 24 months ago

cute

NvidiaGirl 1 point 24 months ago

No offense, but Snow White is such an old name for a pure white or black and white themed build

But hey, still looks great! I don't judge the components and prices

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I didn't name it, she did!

tarriestPython 1 point 24 months ago

Damn This is one sexy build, i realy like the white colour scheme but when i build my system it wanst realy an option :( ... Next time xD

matty0005 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Very nice white build. if you wanted to make it better, all you would need to do, is change the power cable going to your gpu, to a white sleaved cable

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

"She liked it"

Well enough said I guess +1

jbgetty 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

i was building a computer for my wife and going to call it snow white ... :( guess I'll go with snow lake

nice build though

vekspec 6 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

That is probably the prettiest "white" build I've ever seen!! that GPU, it's white!! and I love the choice of case, the S340 is one of my favs! well done! one happy wife I bet!

only one small suggestion would to be to keep another storage drive in mind, cause 240gb, while enough for most things, will fill up quickly with games and photos.

+1!

Jkacin 1 point 24 months ago

I was wondering if this was a borrowed name from my build guide

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I have honestly not read your build guide...

Jkacin 1 point 23 months ago

I know, I just thought it was ironic that you'd had the same name; freaky!

MCCOOKIE200 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Does the gpu fit around the armour on the bottom right as I wish to get this board just wondering if I put a gigabyte 980ti woukd IT interfer or fit snug

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Yes - it's rather close, but it fits.

MCCOOKIE200 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

okay cool just making sure before i get the 980ti plus the 980ti is like 5mm smaller in legnth cheers mate

MCCOOKIE200 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi can u post pictures on how the kraken x61 attaches to the mobo and any other connectors as I cannot get any of my fans to appear in the motherboard bios

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

You need to make sure you have the 140mm kraken plugged into the 1st and 2nd fan headers coming off the main kraken pump, and the internal USB plug into one of the USB headers on the motherboard.

The Kraken fans are software control, not bio controlled, because they are plugged into the kraken, which communicates via the internal USB port I previously mentioned.

Make sure you have the latest NZXT CAM software loaded on your PC and when you boot to the desktop and launch CAM, give it a minute to recognize the Kraken and then you can control the fans speed from there.

MCCOOKIE200 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Cheers what about the other 3 pin cable from the kraken where does that plug into the mobo

MCCOOKIE200 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Where do u plug in the 3 pin power cable from the kraken x61 ???

Adobemancer 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Question??? Did the lighting come with the case or fans? I was doing a similar build and I called it the same thing. It's my first build.

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

No and yes - the lighting is separate for the case, but built into the GPU.

Adobemancer 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks

BootWithTheFUr 1 point 21 months ago

very nice

Faraz 1 point 20 months ago

Clean and beautiful. I'm also going with the Sabertooth S in a white theme (S340 case).

Mesko23 1 point 16 months ago

created an account just to tell you...i hate you! but i love you! THIS IS ALMOST THE EXACT BUILD I HAVE BEEN CREATING .

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Thanks =)

ten8yp 5 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

Great build! I have versions of this same one in my Save Part Lists and my main build is white. If you want to make yours (wife's) even more white, Deepcool has the Gamer Storm Captain 240EX which has a white waterblock/pump combo, a white LED, and white radiator and fans. LOVE that Galax GTX 960. Wish we could get them here in the States and that they made more white GPU's. I wasn't a fan of the Asus Dual series 1060 6GB I ordered and ended up sending it back. I'm working on another white GPU for my main build right now and also modding an MSI 1060 6GB to have white accents.

pezza48 1 point 13 months ago

this is so aesthetically pleasing

oldfan13672 0 points 24 months ago

Your move with the GTX 960 is not bad, but perhaps I would think about competitors and substitutes. R9 380 can be found for $170 and R9 380x for $200 at the moment. Power consumption between the r9 380 and the GTX 960 are extremely similar (within 2%-5%), while the r9 380x on average consumes about 20% more power than a GTX 960. I do not think that 2GB will suffice for 1080p gaming.

Here are some videos of comparison on GPUs, please understand this is about 3 months ago and that there have been driver updates. Also understand that power consumption of the GPU in your build will be different, as the PSU in the video is Bronze certified.

AMD GPUs will only gain performance with further DirectX 12 title releases (strangely enough Nvidia GPUs lost FPS due to DX12 while AMD gained), Vulcan APIs, and more driver updates:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-I7Nm3a1Nc (R9 380x vs. GTX 960)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uOLoKV7b7Q (R9 380 2GB vs. GTX 960 2GB )

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E4Ok84h3bI (R9 380 vs. GTX 960 vs. R9 380x)(newest comparison video I could find, unfortunately the video is not English, but results are.)

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

I would have gone with an R9 380x for sure, but I wanted to fit the style of the build, and my wife primarily only plays MMO's, so absolute power wasn't needed. The Galax GTX 970 HOF would have been my choice had I had a little more money.

Buying an R9 380 to fit my build would have required painting both the shroud and the backplate, which I'm not comfortable doing, as it voids the warranty.

oldfan13672 1 point 24 months ago

Oh I see, an aesthetics-focused build certainly results in limited options, more so on a budget. As long as it does what you need it to though, I suppose no problem exists.

HaloLegend98 1 Build -2 points 24 months ago

Was wondering why the 960 was chosen (versus a 970) and saw the color. Ah. Looks great. Clean. I'm still so confused why Nvidia doesn't push the 4 gb standard for anything above the X50 series. 2 gb isn't really enough for anything above CSGO, DotA, LoL or any other huge mainstream game.

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

M9. I have a 2GB R9 380 and it plays ANY game at 60FPS+ at 1080P. You name it. VRAM doesn't help in games unless the resolution is bumped up to 2K/4K. Then VRAM is useful. 2GB is plenty.

MafiatechTeam 0 points 24 months ago

IMO i never consider the 970 worthy becuase of the 3.5GBfast and th 0.5 slow, thats bit of a **** move if you ask me

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

R9 390 FTW :)

Creibold submitter 3 Builds 2 points 24 months ago

I wanted the R9 390 for this build, but I couldn't find anything to match.

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

You could've gotten a gigabyte one, and then put a white backplate on it for like $30 ;-;

Still, this is awesome. And if your wife is happy, then it shouldn't need to change :)

MafiatechTeam 1 point 24 months ago

yeah :P

vekspec 6 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

that whole debacle is blow out of proportion by Nvidia haters etc. you won't ever run into any issues with the RAM. I'm running two 970s and have not noticed any "RAM" issues running any AAA games.

MafiatechTeam 1 point 24 months ago

its a matter of principle tbh, for games that exceed 3.5gb you will notice, supposedly but when i buy a graphics card that has 4GB of vram then i expect to be able to use all the vram and not take a performance hit

It's been great. Seems to supply a nice, sends a steady stream of power to my motherboard, especially as I'm overclocking. I actually had to check to see if the fan was working, it's just that quiet.

Only complaint is the motherboard 24-pin connector, which is the only non-modular cable on the supply, is a little thick for cable routing purposes.
