Description

Hi guys! This is my second build ever and I wanted to do a blue theme on this one. Also the point of this build was to kinda save money/have upgrade-ability so that I can sooner or later have a full fledged machine but for right now I just have lower quality hardware (yet they still pack a punch = Kaby Lake Pentium, and 1 stick of 8 gb of ram) Everything I got on here was on sale(mostly new egg), but I bought the Pentium used on craigslist.

Other things to know is that I didn't buy all of this initially. I actually had the RX 470 and SSD from my last build.

I went out of my comfort zone buying a BioStar motherboard and I do NOT regret it. It came with an RGB fan which is in the back of my case. This allowed me to put the pre-installed fan in the back in front! My review says it all.

I also bought the Pure Rock Slim because the stock fan is just too loud. It actually knocked 10 degrees off my idle temps and is silent!

I did my best to cable manage too, so hopefully you guys will enjoy that. If any of you have any tips or constructive criticism let me know! Thanks, Papa Dave

Part Reviews

CPU

Great CPU for the price! Intel did a great job bringing back Pentiums that perform almost similar to their i3s.

CPU Cooler

Silent and knocked off 10 degrees off my stock cooler.

Motherboard

I got a $70 board that came with an RGB LED fan (the one in the back) and 4 ram slots, 3 system fan headers, 2 CPU fan headers, and 2 RGB 5050 LED headers. I had no problems with this board, and the bios were easy to get around. This is a great deal in my opinion. It also came with an RGB fan and two rgb headers which is really cool. Would recommend this.

Memory

Love the breathing blue led's on this ram. Works great, although I bought one thinking I could get some in the future but I think they stopped selling them ):

Case

This case has so much to offer. You get 5 fans that are all pretty quiet and also comes with a controller. The window is beautiful and the case provides great cable management options! Would recommend this case to the pro and the new builders!

Power Supply

Love the semi-modular option! Silent! Black Cables!

Flip the rear fan to exhaust. its fighting with the heatsink and keeping the air inside the case.

I fixed it, thanks! (:

How did you figure that out?

He can tell by looking at the fins on the fan. Also the logo on the fan is almost always on the side of the fan that the air is being directed. The 3 intakes on the front and 1 exhaust in the back should give good positive pressure, and keep dust out of your case.

Cooler fan is blowing out hot air, and the rear fan is pushing that hot air back to the cooler rather than directing it out the case.

Very nice build. Clean, balanced, cost effective, good upgrade path, and like you said "Bang for buck".

I'm wondering what you use this build for? And how does it do?

I play league of legends, and currently player unknowns battlegrounds. Both play perfectly fine, but soon I wanna get sky rim remastered edition to play. Not sure how it runs for that as of yet.

Due to this now having 4 threads I do not see the point of the i3's anymore, I rather save up $50 or just go all out and get i5. Too bad I built my PC when pentium only was dual core, or else I would have went with this one. Nice build!

Building my first pc and I think I'm going to use your build. will probably get the 570 instead as far as the video card goes. going to use it for league and battlegrounds as well. currently have a mac but games i like aren't mac compatible.

Good to hear! Message me when building if you have any questions. Just to let you know, battlegrounds still isn't optimized so I don't always get the best frames etc. So I do turn down the settings that marginally change the looks (v-sync and post-processing.) But like i said it only changes the looks marginally and it makes it run better. (Even PC's with better hardware than mine experience the same thing) League is ran on ultra no problem and I also play guild wars 2 which runs on ultra with no problems.

will do. to be honest i have no idea how to build, but with the help of youtube videos i hope to achieve it. do you think the upgrade of the video card will help with the frame problem?

No, it's more because the game isn't optimized. Like I said, builds better than mine(better gpu's) sometimes run worse. Because no gpu runs a game the same. It's just the makers of the game needing to fix their game more since it is still in early access

Would this be able to run overwatch

  • 1 point

Absolutely, first overwatch runs on most pc's it doesn't take much. And I haven't tested this myself but benchmarks on YouTube say that the minimum Frame rate they got was 74 fps which means it'll handle it just fine.

After reading the other comments good to see you fixed the rear exhaust issue.

However this build does show that you don't need to spend a ton of money to make your PC look good and yes that Pentium G4560 is practically an i3 with 2 cores 4 threads and is only 2-4% behind the i3-6100 CPU performance wise for a much larger % price savings.

+1 for the extra effort to make it look good
