Description

I built this mainly for gaming at 1080p. It runs fine no problems with GTA 5. It was my project for a long time getting all the right parts together, trying to get the best price to performance was the hardest bit. I'm really pleased as to how it turned out. I have updated the prices to what i can remember, it is all in euros.

Part Reviews

CPU

Top processor had it since 2012 never let me down. Can still handle today's games.

CPU Cooler

Four stars does its job really well just the pump is a little too loud. But great design looks great in my build.

Motherboard

Everything you need is there. Fan pins could be better placed

Memory

Work really well. No problems had them too since 2012.

Video Card

Best card for the price per performance. Runs a little hot but the Vapor x handles it well.

Case

Best case i have ever had the size, the look, and the simplicity is awesome. You can make any build look great.

Power Supply

Reliable power horse had it too since 2012.

Case Fan

A little too loud, build quality could be better and the plastic colored rings are weak. But there look great and perform ok.

Case Fan

A little too loud, build quality could be better and the plastic colored rings are weak. But there look great and perform ok.

Case Fan

Was worried 80mm fans would be too loud to my suprise, they are quieter than my Corsair fans. At full load i cant even hear them. Top fans. Now i just need to change my Corsair ones.

Monitor

Monitor is ok the colours are a little weak.

Headphones

OK sound and build quality is good. They are a little too big.

you can manually set the price on the parts list i believe. did you have to paint the rings on the fans? or do they just match like heaven? I love this case dude

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hey ok i will look to see if i can change them. They are the new corsair fans they come with three different colour rings blue red and white. Thanks man

jipster69 4 Builds 3 points 23 months ago

You have to go to your "Saved Part Lists" tab up in the top right by "Sign Out":

Go to the one you used and loaded up to your completed build and click the blue "Edit Part List" button. Next to each delete "X" is a little wheel/cog. Click that and the box that opens allows you to "Manually Enter Price" at the bottom and then don't forget to check the "Mark As Purchased" box.

When you are all done setting your prices don't forget to click "Save As" and overwrite the part list under the same name (or under a new name/part list if ya want). Then go to you completed build and "edit" it and upload the new/edited part list.

Thanks for the advice.

jordanah2 1 point 23 months ago

The CPU power connector on that Mobo is really strange.

tpb1908 1 point 23 months ago

In what way? It's an 8 pin CPU connector, nothing strange.

jordanah2 2 points 23 months ago

odd orientation, far from the edge

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Odd is good better than normal hihi.

HTTPRO 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

True its very close to the CPU socket, throwing me off.

Shashwat 1 point 23 months ago

I have the same desk! hehe...nice build!

ZenoxTheWizard 1 point 23 months ago

What desk is it if you remember? Perhaps a link?

mlach 4 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Ikea Malm desk with the drawer. about $150 if memory serves me. Would've picked it up myself if I hadn't found a similar one for $70.

ZenoxTheWizard 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks, I've been looking around for a decent desk recently.

mlach 4 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Sweet build, already on the front page! +1

Once suggestion, I moved my ssd to the hdd bracket and removed the ssd bracket. opened up a lot of space on the cable side.

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks mate ok could do that actually good tip. Your 240 is a awesome build. Any thoughts on filling the two 80mm fan slots at the back

mlach 4 Builds 0 points 23 months ago

Thank you.

I have considered it. However, I keep hearing that 80mm fans are quite loud, even more than some 120/140 fans. Biggest downside for me, no good looking fans. At least nothing that would look good for my build. Plus, I've got plenty of fans to keep my build cool at this time. 6 in total.

James2276 submitter 1 Build 0 points 23 months ago

Hey i ordered two 80mm fans will let you know how loud they are when there here

Critchard 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

How did that GPU fit in there? It's supposedly 15mm too long for that case, especially with the CPU cooler in there? Did everything fit comfortably?

Great looking build by the way. +1

James2276 submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

Hi its a tight fit but it fits. Its abit awkward to get it in. I saw a video on ncix tech tips with this case and the vapor x so i knew it would fit.

Critchard 1 Build 0 points 23 months ago

Okay, thanks for the the reply. For some reason this site says there is a maximum GPU length of 290mm. I think it's more like 330mm.

goodra 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

I believe it is because some GPUs may have cables running out of the end of the card instead of the top.

Growliff1234 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Never seen such a thing...

goodra 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

My old EVGA gtx 460 was like that. There are some cards like that out there

JonezyBigby 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

great looking build love corsair air 240 in white +1

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks mate

Rafat200 1 point 23 months ago

why 1155 board when you can get better processors on the 1150 boards?

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Ive had the processor for a very long time it isnt new. It was in my old rig.

MashedBrotatoes 1 point 23 months ago

Love the build! How was it working in that case? I'm thinking of getting the black one.

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi thanks, the case it so good really easy cable managment but air flow is important the best is intake through the front and top exhaust. I had the other way round first and everything was overheating.

MashedBrotatoes 1 point 23 months ago

Ok thanks! I'll bear that in mind

rishabhchugh13 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Love that blue sapphire card :) What sort of temps are you getting under load?

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks mate, not sure about temps but it very rarely turns red the sapphire logo i mean.

rishabhchugh13 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Fair enough, it is a pretty big cooler so its doing its job well!

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

It can pack out some heat though under full load

coolguy562 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

The Vapor-X cards don't get very hot at all (for a 290) max it will probably ever go is 75 maybe 80C.

basstreblevol 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Nice build. Really clean and great job on the colour scheme! I hope you bought the twin packs for the fans and saved a couple bucks.

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi thanks, yes sir i did i had the 540 air before so i just used the fans i bought for that, for this case but now i got too many fans haha

Critchard 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Which case do you like more? This one or the 540?

James2276 submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

They both really good the 540 is better for cooling and crossfire and sli builds. The 240 is for me more pratical it fits better on my desk. Before, i had my 540 on the floor and it would just attract dust.

Antocharles360 1 point 23 months ago

Love the case good job

coolguy562 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Awesome build, but you could probably go to 1440p with the 290

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

I sooo want to go 1440p, im just debating wether or not to do it. Plus with freesync and the monitor market at the minute with the prices changing so much, i think i will wait a little bit. Do you think a 290 can handle 1440p

coolguy562 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

I think the 290 should be able to handle 1440, maybe not as well as the 980 but you could always add a second. But me personally, if I was building a system now I would have waited on the gpu and trudged along with integrated graphics until the 300s drop which could be as soon as the end of june. Of which the 390x is speculated to compete with the titanx.

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Im not sure a second would fit. The 980 wasnt out when i built this but i still wouldnt spend nearly 600 euros on a graphics card. Yea the 390x looks good for 1440p gaming. Im gonna wait till the next generation of graphic cards though.

coolguy562 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Ya, you're right I don't think a second would fit, it would fit in the case however the mobo doesn't support it from the looks of it. Also if the 390x does compete or outclass the titanx it will be a great 1440p card and seeing how the titanx performs great for 4k too.

unhappypete 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

really like the backplate on that 290, love this card and i love the way you incorporated it and it's color scheme into your build

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks mate. The colour scheme was quite important for me. I had luck that sapphire release a blue card not many blue ones out there

dcunited 1 point 23 months ago

You can edit the cost of your individual parts. Go to edit parts list and there is a settings gear. Click that and manually enter your price per part!

I would like to know the prices that you got them at. It's always nice to see someone get a good deal.

MicahCerrone 1 point 23 months ago

A $300 MicroATX motherboard, though??? Why?

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Haha i didnt pay 300 dollars i need to change the price i live in germany i paid 80 euros for it. But your right 300 dollars on a mobo would be too much

MicahCerrone 1 point 23 months ago

Oh, heh... That would make much more sense.

VelocityRaptor 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

I love how many logitech wireless receivers you have XD

lgagyi 1 point 23 months ago

Nice build. I love the color scheme, but I would recommend adding exhaust fans at the back of the first chamber to keep dust and hot air out. Now would that look nice? I don't know, it was just a recommendation.

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi thanks, im thinking about it but 80mm fans i have read are loud plus not sure how much air they could move. It would be nice to fill the space up though

TheMechanical 1 point 23 months ago

Good Build! Though why didn't you use i7-4770K or i5-4690K or i7-4790K?

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi thanks, because i had the processor from my last computer and i thought it would be too expensive to buy a new one.

TheMechanical 1 point 23 months ago

Ok, cool

Painwithin 2 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Nothing wrong with the CPU you got, im still rocking my i7 2600k and 2 GTX 680's.

Runs everything so far still.

+1 on your build looks epic and clean.

Stupidmouth 2 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Welcome to the club =D

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks mate

niggashu 1 point 23 months ago

I thought that the card length exceeds the air 240..

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

They seems to be a problem with that on this website. Because clearly it fits

niggashu 1 point 23 months ago

I cheked on the case and GPU specs on both Sapphire and corsair websites and it's clearly incompatible. WEIRD **** MATE moieqps*diaùngzdù

GeekaWhat 1 point 23 months ago

Nice build! Cable tie the thin cables in the top left (like the one from the pump) but apart from that amazing, please buy a corsair K70 and match the lights to those in the case and you're setup would be complete. How come the dual SSDs? Just wondering - very nice build! :D

James2276 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks. True i need to tidy it up abit. The first ssd is only 120gb it was already full from just OS and other things. So i got the extra ssd for my games for better loading times plus its quieter than a hardrive.

NetFlakes 1 point 23 months ago

Great color theme you have going in there. With some really nice cables and matching walls/table, you have one sexy beast right there. =)

agentlegiant 1 point 23 months ago

What cable sleeves did you use for you computer build?

pielover2013 1 point 23 months ago

When I see someone actually attempted cable management, and color coordination: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGe7OvlwpbI

+1 On this build looks great :D

jordanah2 1 point 23 months ago

I have almost the exact same monitor as you. (VS247H-P 23.6") Try messing with various color settings in the OS and monitor. It worked for me...

ChickenWizard 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

One of the best looking PC's on this website! :D

junoprima 1 point 22 months ago

i want your deck

Froggerdog 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

The internet kept telling me that that card would not fit in that case, but you have it in there along with a front radiator!!! So glad I came across this build that proved the internet wrong. Oh, and its very sexy ;)

cormike 1 point 18 months ago

very nice clean build, convinced me to buy the case!

kwwuu -2 points 23 months ago

nice but, why that motherboard, so freaking expensive. You could have saved alot of cash for a cheaper one around 100$-150$

James2276 submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

Hey the price is wrong i need to change it. I paid 80 euros for it.

kwwuu 1 point 23 months ago

lol, that sounds much better.

_Sanic_ 1 Build -5 points 23 months ago
