Description

I put this together because i wanted something nicer than my old AMD 8370 build. i was running a one monitor setup and have always liked the look of 3 monitors and was always wanting to try and do multiple things at one time like play my game and watch a movie at the same time or just listen to music and game and also get some work done all at the same time...with this build i am able to do everything i just mentioned and do it with out shuddering or slowing down.

Would like to point out that i can only get to 2764Mhz on my memory OC right now due to Bios restraints on memory Currently running Bios Ver. 1002 but im sure that will get fixed soon...CPU OC to 4017GHz on all 8 cores stable. and OC my GTX 1080 FTW2 Hybrid to 2138Mhz. and i have all Red and Black Theme Going on inside with all the RGB lights. After the Bios Update the system booted up on the First try and has not looked back since, Its been running smooth and quite but gets a little louder when i start multi tasking.

also i would like to add that I forgot to mention, you see in the Pictures that i had Hyper X DDr4 2666mhz Memory, When i tried to post with this it did not post, Asus says that the Hyper X kit i bought is compatible but with the 1002 bios or the one previous to it , it does not work so, Suggestion stay away from the Hyper X kits for now until they fix it in the Bios. that is why in the actual computer pics you see the Corsair Dominator Memory 16g of ddr4 3200mhz this works and so did the Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB ddr4 3000 that i bought, i will be pulling out the 3200 kit and replacing it with the 32gb ddr4 3000 LPX kit and its red, that way i stay with the Red and Black theme i have going.

Part Reviews

CPU

Nice smooth Processor eats everything i throw at it..If you dont need all this power try its little Brother the R5 1600X for half the Price and OC and get close to the same performance.

CPU Cooler

excellent cooler if your getting it for the AM4 socket you will need to order the Bracket from corsair i added the link for it. i tried the AM3 mounts they work but i just feel safer with the metal backplate from the AM4 which is sorta glued to the board so watch out for that. as far as cooling it keeps it cool under gaming load running WOT, and WOW or SWTOR heat never goes above 45c.

Motherboard

Im just a total fan boy of Asus MOBO's my dad used them and ive always used them in my builds never had a bad one yet from me or my dad that 19yrs of building with them. everything works great i have not tried out the 3d printer but everything else is as advertised

Memory

Memory works great its memory...pricey yes but it works

Storage

this is one of the Fastest SSD's and yes you pay for it...Flip side in reality with a clock timer you will not see a difference in the speed from the 850 evo in windows start up or in games, so save the cash and use it else where. the product it's self easy to install and works great, awesome feature no cords...this is more of a bragging rights type of drive..

Storage

I bought this because i have one in my 8370 system and it works fast and works great my original on was actually 499.99 so the price has dropped on this so i scooped one up and i would totally recommend all builders to grab one of these... i just wish the pricing was more around the 250 dollar range for these and the 2tb was around 500 range...wishful thinking....

Storage

old faithful....great drive but dated but its affordable mass storage for pics and movies and such that dont get used alot and great for back ups.

Video Card

I totally bought this about a week before the priced dropped about 100 bucks...over paid but you all should not have that problem...very great card love the smoothness of these graphics. but as with Nike name you pay the price..waiting to see what happens with VEGA. Before adding Dual Cards to the system.

Case

Very big and Bulky Nice layout with all the stuff you can do with this...would like to add this Tower is very outdated...no USB 3.1 front headers no 2.5 support on the alt side of the case like brackets. this was engineered for 3.5 bays and hot swap...after buying it my thoughts are save the cash and go with a newer version from Corsair or Coolermaster..Really for the Price of this beast it should have been updated with the 2.5 drive holders on the alt side panel and usb 3.1 support. as far as the product itself good construction very well laid out for older setups aka 3.5 HDDs . bottom vent panels open sometimes as the magnetic grasp fails to hold

Ryzen finally ahead of Intel +1

Zotabear submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Not really ahead but we are in the same ball park now..instead of in the T ball field. but future Gen hopefully will look better..and I for one do not like supporting the monopoly companies...Proud owner of the Athlon FX x2, phenom x4, FX 4170, FX 8370 and now the Ryzen R7 1800x and soon when i rebuild my wifes PC the Ryzen R5 1600x

Next update if intel and nvidia not drop their price I will go from the dark side AMD

I want to point out that Ryzen is now on par with 4th and 5th gen intel, not ahead.

In terms of pricing they are ahead, and intel releases a new series of high end processors in June that will knock Ryzen out of the ballpark, however, Ryzen is still affordable performance.

They matched intel, but they didn't pull ahead.

I look forward to seeing if Intel will cut prices :-)

He_162 1 point 23 months ago

The most likely won't sadly, they will probably drop prices for older existing chips when the new ones are released by a small amount, but other than that, since those chips will undoubtedly be faster than current gen zen, they will only have minor price cuts over previous generations of chips, instead their consumer i7's will be at the same price, but offer 6 cores at the start of 2018.

Blacksm1le 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

It is better to wait in 2018 to make an update HBM2 and mother board series Z with 6-core maybe with ddr5 memory :-)

He_162 1 point 23 months ago

Not necessarily, unless you actually need that good of a CPU. (If you're playing games at 60hz you don't even need a 6 core.

Nice, not sure why on the box picture, there is not the pic. of the CHVI. I don`t like asus much, before that i was something like a fan of them, but on AM3+ i did have problems with the ASUS based boards like Sabertooth 990FX R2 and Crosshair Formula V, all of them memory related, and it was not from the memory... Still a very nice choice to go on AMD side, they now have insane processors, and not intel...

Thanks for the write up, it actually made me change my mind about a future build I'm planning. I decided to go (for now) with the Corsair - Air 740 full case instead of the 400d. Also, I'm just going to buy an M.2 500 GB SSD drive to go alongside two older drives (one old 840 Pro and another 750 GB HDD) that I currently own. I was planning around full 4k but now I'm debating on whether or not I just want to max out at 1080p and get myself a 144Hz monitor instead of 60Hz UHD. I was also debating buying one of the super expensive G-Sync 4k monitors but I don't like the idea of forking out 800+ dollars for it. I do, however, plan on sticking with a hybrid 1080 ti just because I want the sick performance and I love the liquid-cooling functionality without having to make a loop with parts or a kit. I'll also get the same CPU cooler as you. Hope you are enjoying your rig. Perhaps I can send you my potential build and you can possibly critique it? Thanks again.
