Description

This will be my first post to this site. I built my first computer about 4 years ago and it has since become slightly out-dated. (i5 3570 : GTX 550 1GB : z68 Intel Chipset MOBO) I had some extra money come my way so I decided to shoot for a budget AMD build that could satisfy my mild gaming needs.

-CPU- AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core -- I currently have this proc running at stock clock speed, 3.5GHz. My plan is to eventually OC but I haven't had a need to as of yet. This proc has powered through everything I have thrown at it

-CPU Cooler- Corsair H60 -- This cooler keeps the FX-6300 running extra cool. I usually idle at room temp and never climbs above 35 degrees Celsius under load.

-MOBO- Gigabyte GA-990-FXA-UD3 -- Full feature MOBO with a decent price tag. No complaints here.

-Memory- Kingston HyperX Fury White - 8GB

-Storage- Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB -- Pretty standard SSD that doesn't break the bank. I currently only have this one drive. I plan to add a 1TB HDD soon.

-GPU- EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB -- I have always been faithful to EVGA when it comes to GPUs. This little card runs great. While it would be nice to run games in 4K, I am satisfied with running 40-60FPS at 1080p for most games. I have been running The Division on Medium settings and staying in the 30-40FPS range. Works for me.

-Case- Corsair 100R ATX Mid Tower -- I love this case. Fairly compact and very reasonably priced. Corsair4Lyfe

-PSU- Corsair CX 600W - Paid 60$ -- I initially wanted a full modular PSU but this semi-modular unit fit my needs.

-OS- MS Windows 10 Pro -- A friend of mine works for an IT shop so I got a free license :)

I personally would've kept the intel platform at least until the end of the year to see what Zen will be like, but if you just wanted to change it's understandable. Nice budget pc overall.

Thanks for the input! Luckily, with the price point I paid for the MOBO and proc, I could always shoot for an Intel config in a year or two.

While I have an FX 6300 myself I really doubt it outperforms an i5 3570. It's a sidegrade at best but still, awesome looking PC. Make sure you overclock the FX 6300! That's where the fun is!

I agree with you on the FX6300 vs the 3570. Planning to OC the 6300 soon. I ended up revitalizing my old PC hardware in a new case and a few minor upgrades. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3MXdjX It still needs a newer GPU but it runs great.

Looks awesome! You should wait till Pascal and Polaris come out even if you wont buy one of those just because the GPU prices will drop. I have an FX 6300 running @ 4.3GHZ and planning to get a R9 480 or GTX 1060.

I'm planning a build; I'm wondering how your computer is getting along with the h60 (CPU Cooler). Did you overclock at all and are the temps accurate given the cooler?

Thanks for sharing.

The h60 cools really well. I overclocked to 4.0GHZ and I keep the same temps under load. (35-40 degrees Celsius)
