Description

This is my first time building a PC! I have done PC gaming before, but I have never had the specs to run anything other than like minecraft, and low end games on steam, but in march 2018, I got a Job, and you already know what I started to save up for! This bad boy, it was pretty hard to build, I spent hours just cable managing, but it is a solid computer, the case fans are quite loud, but the heatsink is silent, and so are the extra 2 fans i bought for the top of the case. you won't be able to connect the front fans to the power supply, you need to go to the store and buy the adapter, like the one that is included with the extra fans. but there are like 3 bucks a piece, so it is not a big deal. everything has gone smooth so far, im running most games from high to ultra graphics at 60+ FPS, It's a good rig, runs very well! all of the peripherals are very, very good, all in all, im happy with it!

Part Reviews

CPU

Very good and fast processor for the price! It's coffee-Lake, 2.8 GHz, but Automatically turbo boosts up to 4 GHz! Works great, with idle temps down to 26!

CPU Cooler

So good! quiet, small-ish, thermal paste is good, high end quality, not too hard to install, great for any build!

Motherboard

Great BIOS, ports are labeled well, it works good in my rig, only problem is, it was a bit difficult to screw into my case, I had to leave the bottom right screw out, because I stripped the groves trying to install it...

Memory

One of the best 16GB sticks for a lower price, it is really good quality! And it does its job as RAM.

Storage

good 120GB SSD! Really fast, works good!

Storage

1TB HDD, $40, this is the only 1TB option in my opinion

Video Card

Wow, as a retired console gamer entering PC Gaming, this is just mind blowing, the only PC Gaming I used to do was Minecraft on my old laptop, but I decided to enter PC Gaming, and I bought this beast, It runs any gaming I throw at it without a struggle, stable 60+ FPS, I got it on sale, it lights up through my case, this is an Amazing 1060!

Case

Good Case! I really like the look of it, the front fans are a bit loud, the leds on them are nice and bright, cable management is decent, had a hard time putting it back together though, the window is a good size, but reflects my screen quite a bit, but other than that it has lots of room inside, and it looks dope.

Power Supply

Good power supply, 80+ gold, 550 watt, EVGA has good rep, it works great

Case Fan

it's a fan, it spins, they help my PC stay cool, leds are nice, quiet, good product.

Monitor

Beautiful. 24", 75 Hz, 1080p, price is great, I highly recommend if you don't want to spend a lot more for 144Hz.

Keyboard

Awesome keyboard! Keys are very light and tactile, quiet, easy to find drivers, nice lights if you have a black and red build, great product!

Mouse

Good mouse, 5000 dpi, fits to my hand well, good packaging, I wish more than just the logo would light up though, but I can't complain, I got it on sale for $19.00

Headphones

Feels High quality, mic sounds good, a little too much base, but that is adjustable, good sound, comfortable, but after a few hours, it feels tight, just take it off for 5 minutes, and it will feel better.

It's a nice build but I'm pretty sure you cant overclock the CPU. Looked into it a bit for you, https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/913783-overclock-i5-8400/

thank you for telling me, I am disappointed that I an't because I was going for a cheaper option, then I was going to overclock it, but it still works fine for the games im playing.

For Intel you would need to buy a "k" series processor such at the i5 8600k in order to OC your cpu :)

Congrats on your first build !!

Also, thanks so much for sharing.

Computer hardware is ever evolving so I hope you are hooked and will come back often and look at the forums for insight.

16GB of memory is great but I believe 2 8GB modules offers better gaming performance … I think

Your motherboard offers M.2 support ( many/ most do ) Have you considered a NVMe drive ?

I was originally going to get 2 x 8, but I was told that I might have a clearance issue, which there is, I can only the fit 1 ram stick, otherwise I would get 2 x 8.

Thanks for the reply ……….. and that's cool because some times coolers can interfere with memory with large/ tall heat spreaders. That is why I tend to go with Corsair Vengeance LP due to their Low Profile.

That particular CPU cannot overclock, though your Mobo supports it. This means you can overclock the memory and video card.

take cpu i3 8100 - good enough

take 8bg ram - enough

cheaper cooler for 20 bucks - enough

take 80 bronze power supply 450watt - enough

this saves you easily 200 bucks on your build without big performance changes

lol why would you save $20 on a power supply that will be pulling electricity out of the wall less efficiently for 10 years? unless you live in your parents basement and don't pay the power bill, that is terrible advice.

let's say i run the power supply on full load 6hours per day and an efficiency difference of 2%. this will add up to only 19kWh per year. I pay 10cents/kWh. that is 1.9eur. so it would take 20 years to add up to 20eur. even if you have a difference of 5 or 6% it is still a small difference in usage

1) why would you go with a noctua CPU cooler when there are much better looking ones on the market for the price(if it is noise level, then a be quiet! CPU cooler would be a much better looking contestant at a very high quality and low noise level)? (2) why did you go with only one stick of RAM?

1) noctua is a good brand, it is nearly silent, it keeps my CPU temps way under control, some people like the look of them, and the reviews on all their products are all very positive. 2) I could not fit 2, I had some clearance issues.
