Description

Highly OC build not for gaming purposes, but to act as a home server. Initial requirements: High capable processor (i7 5820K) First class motherboard with OC support and 2011-3 socket for future processor improvements (Xenon?) and 4+ DRAM sockets (initially built with 2x8Gb 288-DIMMs) Graphic performance was not a primary requirement but DX 12.0 support was valuable High performance cooling system (analyzed both static vs. liquid, finally decided a static CPU cooler) and low-noise configuration * Chase design was not a mandatory requirement but a good chase with right cable-management solution and frontal USB3.0 connectors was a requirement

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

First class static CPU cooler. PRO's: silent, powerful, nice materials and design. CON's: a bit too big (be careful with your chase free height). Also fan blowing direction (push pull) hard to figure out (maybe a sign or indicator could help)

Motherboard

Great MB with support for UBS3.1, M.2, OC, and many many more. I only had an issue when trying to update BIOS. Also some DIMMs configurations are not well supported.

Where were you able to place the GPU? 1st/2nd slot?

Awesome cooler, it would be even nicer if you could fit a third fan on it!

go on ebay and look up 2011-3 cpus... you can get a 10-14 core used xeon for the price of a 5820k... much more suitable for server use... nice build all the same.

Maybe consider a Workstation/server board as well... The Asrock WS is about the same price as the Asus x99-A. You could complete this as a more dedicated server with a ws board and Xeon cpu and use the 5820k and x99-A to make a gameing/editing rig...
